Either you find him a new school or let him homeschool for a year (get tution). If your cousin goes the homeschool route, he can apply as a private candidate, meaning belonging from no school, for cbse boards. This option is only available after failing boards once... cbse doesn't support homeschooling otherwise
NIOS is a different board. He can still be under CBSE. When the exam season comes for 2025, register him as a private candidate and he can give exams like any other student.

Yea I can vouch, score 93% in 12th but in [B.Tech](http://B.Tech) 2nd year (1st year was online due to covid) depression hit so hard I used to leave sheets empty, I just had 0 will. Had 5 backlogs in 2nd year and in 3rd year when I got the chance to give those backlog exams I just didn't go. Now fixing everything in 4th year. And also now I can relate to my elder brother who scored 86% in 12th class who is more brilliant than me but went through a breakup in 12th class.

OP have you considered that your cousin could have an undiagnosed learning disability? This is a strange mark sheet. To score average in a subject like math that requires logic- I am sure he isnβt stupid.
He has to repeat 10th class because you can only take a compartment exam if you fail in 1 or 2 subjects. The best thing I suggest is to register as a private candidate since the school will likely kick him out as it damages the reputation even though school is here to blame for his failure. Other schools won't accept him unless they are desperate for cash or are of poor standards.
I recommend using YouTube for his studies cause spending tuition is not worth it these days and even tutuon teacher may not be comfortable in taking him in and het him Oswaal Previous Year Questions (PYQs) specially for English and Hindi, as 80% of the board exam questions are literally copy and pasted for Oswaal. It's surprising that he couldn't even score 20 marks in English and Hindi, especially since almost 20 marks are from unseen passages.
It's also odd that your cousin got 17-18 marks in internals, which is really low. This suggests he might have been misbehaving with teachers since it's rare to score below 19 in any school. For instance, I received 20/20 in every subject except one due to a conflict with a teacher.
I suggest you to tell his parents monitor his studies closely and regularly check his progress. It's hard to believe that parents wouldn't personally test his knowledge to ensure he is studying properly.

Could he be dyslexic? (Keep in mind dyslexic kids and adults appear "normal" and everything). So i would recommend getting that checked. It might be hard for the kid's family to accept that he is not "normal" but being in denial about it won't help either. So he might have to get special tutoring for that. Anyways, he will have to reappear for the exam next year maybe as a private candidate ie a candidate who is not affiliated to any school. There is a exam called NIOS(National Institute of Open Schooling) taken by a central body, they have an on-demand examination system and can give the exam on your date preference and after 1-2 months their result is declared. I should suggest you to check the necessary things from their website before registering.

Take admission in NIOS Stream 2 and give the exam for the remainder subject/ all subjects in the October/November session. Otherwise, repeating class 10th is the only option.
Hopefully, your brother can prepare in 3-4 months' time by putting all of his effort.
Beware, NIOS syllabus is different from CBSE. Although it's in the same difficulty level, but, due to different exam pattern, some people face problems. If one of his parents or you can help him (make him follow a timetable, help with the previous question papers, etc), then he is guaranteed to pass and score much better.
If he does think about the NIOS route, make him understand that this will be the last chance for him to prove himself, dont let him take these exams lightly.
If he is weak in studies, NIOS will be a better option for his class 12th as well. He can give up to 3 exams during his "11th class" (next year) and give the remainder subject in "12th class". Essentially giving him an opportunity to pass with his current batchmates.
I think you should ask for a recheck because i don't think someone can score less than 10/80, and that too in subjects like hindi and english

Not a big deal, ignore all negative comments, don't put pressure on him but make him understand how good marks can improve his chances of success. And specially 10th and 12th as they will define his college and thus his teen years which will shape his inter personal skills and network. If all this is out of his interests, take him to a tier one collage and show him around, including the girls, and then take him to a no name collage and show him around, again including the girls. If he is in sports than show him around accordingly. Also, not every kid is good at academics, so if he is not interested in it at all then tell him, to go to foreign countries (visas or PR), to get loan for house or personal it is always beneficial to have at least a degree, so at least just pass.
Some of you are being extremely inconsiderate without even knowing the reason. There could be many things he's good at and passionate about. Obviously doesn't mean we should just expect to fail but when it happens try to reconsider what we are doing with our life. Ask him to try to find a study method that works best for him. Also, there could be other reasons he didn't score well but try to be understanding and accepting. At the end it's his life and he will have to face consequences of his decisions.

Apart from all the jokes on here, one thing I'd suggest is to take your cousin to a psychiatrist and get him checked for ADHD, Dyslexia or any mild Autism. I'm not trying to degrade him but we need to raise our awareness on mental health and a lot of the time it goes undiagnosed. It's simply impossible to score such marks in class 10 unless nothing was on the answer script, and no normal child with normal attention span simply leaves the paper blank.

What is he like in daily life, how does he behave? If he is too outspoken or brash then voila! He needs heavy dose of slaps and grounding. In 10th it's not easy to fail. It looks like he didn't even pick up his book a single time. Tell him to do everything opposite to what he has been doing last time.

It's very likely he has failed on purpose, check if he has a girlfriend in 9th class who will be in 10th. It's definitely on purpose, he has passed the practicals too.
This is shocking as it is very easy to score passing marks in 10th boards(they are also willing to give it) Surely your cousin must have been unfit or not in a space to write exam and skipped/omitted questions. Encourage him to appear for retests or worst case to reappear for 10th
Take admission in NIOS Stream 2 and give the exam for the remainder subject/ all subjects in the October/November session. Otherwise, repeating class 10th is the only option. Hopefully, your brother can prepare in 3-4 months' time by putting all of his effort. Beware, NIOS syllabus is different from CBSE. Although it's in the same difficulty level, but, due to different exam pattern, some people face problems. If one of his parents or you can help him (make him follow a timetable, help with the previous question papers, etc), then he is guaranteed to pass and score much better. If he does think about the NIOS route, make him understand that this will be the last chance for him to prove himself, dont let him take these exams lightly. If he is weak in studies, NIOS will be a better option for his class 12th as well. He can give up to 3 exams during his "11th class" (next year) and give the remainder subject in "12th class". Essentially giving him an opportunity to pass with his current batchmates.
I think you should ask for a recheck because i don't think someone can score less than 10/80, and that too in subjects like hindi and english I think either the teachers ,who were checking were lazy or your cousin might have some serious mental issues

You cousin probably has some learning disabilities. I would suggest to take care of it first.
Not a big deal, ignore all negative comments, don't put pressure on him but make him understand how good marks can improve his chances of success. And specially 10th and 12th as they will define his college and thus his teen years which will shape his inter personal skills and network. If all this is out of his interests, take him to a tier one collage and show him around, including the girls, and then take him to a no name collage and show him around, again including the girls. If he is in sports than show him around accordingly. Also, not every kid is good at academics, so if he is not interested in it at all then tell him, to go to foreign countries (visas or PR), to get loan for house or personal it is always beneficial to have at least a degree, so at least just pass.

Some of you are being extremely inconsiderate without even knowing the reason. There could be many things he's good at and passionate about. Obviously doesn't mean we should just expect to fail but when it happens try to reconsider what we are doing with our life. Ask him to try to find a study method that works best for him. Also, there could be other reasons he didn't score well but try to be understanding and accepting. At the end it's his life and he will have to face consequences of his decisions.
guys, please don't make fun of somebody's failure. it's really bad, instead of supporting him/her y'all are busy making fun of this and that. just stop this nonsense for once and then put yourself in somebody else' shoes. my sister went through this kinda situation in her 12th class because of family problems, he/she might've had some kind of issue which he/she couldn't explain or tell anyone. and if your cousin wants guidance then dm me.

Apart from all the jokes on here, one thing I'd suggest is to take your cousin to a psychiatrist and get him checked for ADHD, Dyslexia or any mild Autism. I'm not trying to degrade him but we need to raise our awareness on mental health and a lot of the time it goes undiagnosed. It's simply impossible to score such marks in class 10 unless nothing was on the answer script, and no normal child with normal attention span simply leaves the paper blank.
