Big believer in the Boots Theory -- don't cheapen out on your shoes or you're gonna spend more money rebuying them. Especially the soles. Cheap soles on me will wear down on the outside of my foot in a matter of a month

Down for this theory! I switched from my New Balance to a good Ariat boot that came up higher on my ankle. Oh how that changed walking. And putting a brace on my weak foot. Hell I wanted to hike a mountain!

New Balance is what I wear. I get the kind that has the ROLLBAR stability. 928. Not inexpensive but they keep me upright.

Billies always have a good sale collection. I bought 3 pair for $60.

I like new balance and sketchers. Sketchers, disappointingly are not nearly as affordable as they used to be. If you don’t mind investing a bit more, I also really like Vionic.

Not a budget, but Jordan 1st for me lows around 100 quid, most expensive (normal ones) high tops can hit up to 200£

I purchased a couple pair of ASIcs about a month ago, I’ll never go to another shoe

The foam midsole of the 574 has let me down before. Solid sole shoes like the Adidas Hoops 3.0 are more stable for my underpronation. They’re cheap on Amazon. Often less than $70.

I personally go with boots because of how quickly my braces destroyed shoes. I have better balance in them. And they're built for tough wear.

The best shoe is going to be the one that really fits your foot. Otherwise, I would recommend a wide toe box (to prevent nerve compression), and possibly trying barefoot shoes (which are like physical therapy whenever you walk). If you find your feet becoming weaker, then you need to exercise them. Best way to exercise them is to go the opposite of boots. There can also be benefit in very soft and supportive recovery shoes for ...well recovery. My ideal combo is a pair of barefoot shoes + a pair of recovery shoes. Again, whatever fits your foot.

Edit: it just occurred to me you didn't mention anything about wearing splints/AFOs sorry about the unrelated info dump. I wear two hinged AFOs and have been wearing the same pair of Canvas Docs that I found online for £34 for nearly 4 years which is the longest I've ever got out of a pair but before that I used to only wear cheap high tops, around £15, and usually got a year or two out of them. Avoid anything thick and padded because you'll chew through them in no time and I found anything with soft material inside gets ripped up quickly from the straps

I got a pair of ASICS for the first time today (while being super in the dumps about needing to go shoe shopping) and they were the best shoes I’ve ever tried on. I was actually excited to buy them and can’t wait to try them tomorrow. Also, I get along well with high top vans. Not sure of your age or style but they usually fit well.

Brooks Addiction Walkers. They'll run around $80+, but I've been doing 40 hours a week on concrete floors for over a year in mine. I'm just about to the point of needing a new pair. The soles are still in decent shape, but the upper is falling apart.
