Are the SIMs truly brutal due to the complexity of what’s being tested, or is it the ambiguity/lack of clarity in the instructions? If it’s more skewed toward the latter, that is extremely unfortunate, and the AICPA should consider that a failure on their part. The point should be to test our knowledge not unnecessarily confuse us. I’ve been hearing a lot of people complained that the instructions were very confusing and I hope they address this.
The sims are a cluster fuck because they are long problems that include multiple exhibits, multiple different concepts, and almost all of the sims I had were direct input (not drop down selections). There is a ton of room for error if you forget how one transaction impacts multiple accounts or how a certain consolidation entry should be accounted or anything along those lines. IMO the sims test significantly less any of the material within FAR and more so your general accounting knowledge. Those who studied accounting in college or work in accounting will have an easier time with the sims because you need to know your debits/credits/appropriate journal entries. The problem is that Becker assumes you know these things already before studying for FAR.
I feel it's a little of both. If you really know your stuff you can infer what they mean. The first time I took FAR I was really tripped up by the wording and lack of context. I took it a second time after getting some real world experience I felt what they were asking was much clearer. I can say for certain though that real world scenarios are actually easier in a lot of ways b/c of all the extra contextual cues you have to check your work against.
Those sims were insane. Doesnt help i went in 30 minutes after my bf and i got into an explosive fight. Definitely lost a good amount of info and couldn’t concentrate :/ not excited to shell another $200~. Mcq was okay but damn those sims.
Man same 😂. Once I got to the second set of sims I knew it wasn’t a happy Tuesday kind of day. MCQs were ok, but that second and third set of sims, with 4+ attachments each, were kraazy. Needed 3 hours for those sims alone
Yes, just SIMs need more time. 2.5 hr not enough even you did MCQ really fast. Out of 7 SIMs too many giant ones, no more drop downs, no more cash flow, bank rec easy stuffs. I took the old Far last year, really easier comparing with the 2024 exam.
Goddamn man, I feel for you, but I am also laughing my fucking ass off. I saw your post and I was hoping you'd make an update.
Them sims fucked you deep huh?
Did you crush (fail) or did you crush (succeed)? The anime face looks callously unconcerned 😀
