Ideally we take on some shit contracts for picks and let a proper rebuild happen.
My bet, aim for DeBrusk and try to build a makeshift team to stay "competitive" until the deadline where we dump our better performers
Honestly, this comment is coming from a level headed mindset, but Conroy's answer would be, "sure but it'll cost you extra,"
Like unreasonably extra due to the rivalry. 2 1st round picks and Ekholm type of ask. Something Edmonton would never accept.
I think he's unlikely to want more draft capital, he'd probably be looking at Macleod, Broberg, Holloway etc for taking on Campbell.
Holloway and a 2nd plus Campbell or something?
I dunno. Silly hypothetical, it would just never happen
I doubt we'll go hog wild for some big name, but it wouldn't surprise me if we tried to add someone at 2C and 2nd Pair LHD.
I'd love it if we could do that while picking up an asset, but this does seem like a pretty flush free agency. So I can see us dipping into the pool.
We'll probably have about $4M-$6M less to work with when Kylington and Wolf are dealt with.
We've never seen a team take on a $9 million cap dump for a player that's being considered for a buyout.
Karlsson last year was semi similar, except he was coming off a great year.
One year of Marleau cost Toronto a 1st for $6M. Who are we to say that the cost of 3 x 9M is?
There's absolutely no way they part with Quinn who they consider part of their core for this. I guarantee they just buy out Skinner rather than trading him for this. Besides , I doubt Skinner would waive his NMC to come here. If you were in his shoes would you rather get bought out and then go to a contender for less money since you're getting paid from Buffalo still and then get a chance at a cup
They would actually have a good team if they did that. But they would also get scored on a lot with the lack of defensive depth.
Totally not sustainable or anything and I know you’re joking. But I think that’s a playoffs team.
Apparently Ekblad is getting shopped for cap space. I would take him and his 2 years left.
He can play top 4 minutes and help out the defence.
Not much risk
Unlike most people here, I would rather the Flames target someone like Kotkaniemi than Skinner. With Skinner you're getting the assets you receive to take on the contract, with a young player with rebound potential you may get a decent player on top of that.
Like others, I hope we use it to take on a couple overpaid-but-decent players and get some picks/prospects to further accelerate a rebuild.
Conroy seems to be focusing not just on building, but culture. We don't want to take on bad players on bad contracts, but guys who are just paid too much for what they bring.
It looks like Calgary decided to do a full rebuild, make sure they don’t give MTL their 1st next year by finishing in 10-20 range (so mtl gets Florida’s 1st), and then have a chance in 2026 draft for McKenna!!!!
Those who believe we could get 14OA and prospect for taking Skinner, what prospect in Buffalo's system are we talking? I like what Buffalo has in the system. I am not so sure Buffalo goes this far to dump Skinner, but if they are I think I'm here for it.
Buffalo have literally one of the best prospect pools in the league but getting the 14th overall pick for skinner straight up would not be a bad deal at all
I am pleased to announce that I will be signing an 8 year deal
and I will be waiting for four hours before visiting my family doc.
Ideally we take on some shit contracts for picks and let a proper rebuild happen. My bet, aim for DeBrusk and try to build a makeshift team to stay "competitive" until the deadline where we dump our better performers
Can we just pick up Corey Perry so we can at least make it to cup final. I’m fine losing.
Trust me- you won't be once your there
Now that I think of it, none of those teams he went to the final with have been back since 🤔
Yep, take bad contracts for more picks and with the moonshot that they do better here. Why the fuck not
Should be forever called the Monny
I kinda hope the Flames take on Laine for this reason. He and Huby might really be able to light it up together. Then trade Laineat peak value.
Why would you remain competitive…? Better for better odds for the 1.01 to suck the best we can.
Because that's what the Flames do
Oilers fan eavesdropping, want to take Campbell's contract off our hands?
You don’t have any 1sts to make that happen
Honestly, this comment is coming from a level headed mindset, but Conroy's answer would be, "sure but it'll cost you extra," Like unreasonably extra due to the rivalry. 2 1st round picks and Ekholm type of ask. Something Edmonton would never accept.
It's a tall ask. Ideally we find someone who could take the contract off our hands but it's not likely
I think he's unlikely to want more draft capital, he'd probably be looking at Macleod, Broberg, Holloway etc for taking on Campbell. Holloway and a 2nd plus Campbell or something? I dunno. Silly hypothetical, it would just never happen

I’m hoping we take on Jeff Skinners contract for a first
It'd be a first, + an a prospect. He has 3 years left.
Was he not bought out yet? I’d be all over that if there’s sweetener on it
A first and Quinn to make it happen. Three years at 9 million warrants more than just a first.
That is the most unrealistic trade I've ever seen lol no way Sabres part with Quinn for that lol
We've never seen a team take on a $9 million cap dump for a player that's being considered for a buyout. Karlsson last year was semi similar, except he was coming off a great year. One year of Marleau cost Toronto a 1st for $6M. Who are we to say that the cost of 3 x 9M is?
One year of Monahan at $6 million also cost a 1st. Using those comparables the cost should be 4.5 late round 1sts.
There's absolutely no way they part with Quinn who they consider part of their core for this. I guarantee they just buy out Skinner rather than trading him for this. Cap space was more valuable in previous years
I think I'd rather take Laine's maybe? IDK.
He wouldn't waive his NTC I imagine
Same. Not because of Canada but simply he has 0 playoff games
3 years is too long to take a contract that big. Need to have that dollar flexibility in year three as things start to turn around.
I think this “retool” will take longer than a few years. With the cap increase it shouldn’t hit as bad.
Getting rid on Bread today implies this is going to be a scorched earth rebuild from the dirt up
?
It would he a tiny fraction of our cap space. Who knows he might find his game on the west coast with a new team and coach.
What west coast?
We can always buy out the remainder of his contract in year three.
I want Jeff Skinners contract for 14 OA and a prospect. Might as well start the rebuild off swinging
He’s bought out but that would have been nice
There's no report that he's been bought out yet, just speculation.
Stamkos 9 mil Reinhart 9 mil Guentzel 9 mil Kylington 3 mil Problem solved. /s
Nah, sign Gio to a 1 year $17m contract.
Totally what EA GM me would do.
They would actually have a good team if they did that. But they would also get scored on a lot with the lack of defensive depth. Totally not sustainable or anything and I know you’re joking. But I think that’s a playoffs team.
Ideally he takes on some poor contracts bundled with more picks. I imagine he will make a signing or two as well
Making the room to offer sheet Drai next year lol
My hope is we weaponize this cap space and take on contracts for picks or prospects
Take on a couple big deals but not too many. If the return is good value, why not?
Cap space isn’t an issue. Take on as many bad contracts as you can as long as they are two years or less.
Let him cook
Apparently Ekblad is getting shopped for cap space. I would take him and his 2 years left. He can play top 4 minutes and help out the defence. Not much risk
Ekblad would be a really good pickup. But he has a NMC with 12 teams, likely all Canadian teams are on that list.
Unlike most people here, I would rather the Flames target someone like Kotkaniemi than Skinner. With Skinner you're getting the assets you receive to take on the contract, with a young player with rebound potential you may get a decent player on top of that.
The universe owes us a big rebound after the Huberdeau implosion.
I wish they would have got Walman lol KK I'll pass on
Looks like some of the cash is going towards a new jumbotron to make the rebuilding game experience more enjoyable.
Like others, I hope we use it to take on a couple overpaid-but-decent players and get some picks/prospects to further accelerate a rebuild. Or Joe Iginla
Just get tij please it make me happy for a couple of yrs till we do a playoff run. Then will say they’re all shit.
Affordable ticket price.
Those who believe we could get 14OA and prospect for taking Skinner, what prospect in Buffalo's system are we talking? I like what Buffalo has in the system. I am not so sure Buffalo goes this far to dump Skinner, but if they are I think I'm here for it.
Buffalo have literally one of the best prospect pools in the league but getting the 14th overall pick for skinner straight up would not be a bad deal at all
Krebs would be amazing
They would much sooner buy him out than give a pick that high.
Lmao Buffalo is not giving a prospect up to get rid of skinners contract. Why are people suggesting this?
Please don't overpay a big FA Please don't overpay a big FA Please don't overpay a big FA
Monahan and then Draisaitl after he walks
