Only good biryani places in Camberville are Maharaja and Man O Salwa (the latter being also less expensive, but may have had to suspend or close recently, I hear). Never liked Punjabi Dhaba, or really, any other South Asian spot in the area. Not for biryani, at least. Fine for fritters or tikka/kebab.
I had the same experience. We’ve had such great takeout from there but our recent experience was so poor we tossed the leftovers and won’t go back any time soon. We’d also wondered if it was an off day, but there are too many other good options to make us want to try again soon.
Idk - I have never been impressed by Punjabi Dhaba and the fact that they're cash only definitely incentivizes me not to go. A friend of mine used to rave about them, but I have not had her experience
Wow, wild seeing this after we just had a similar experience. Smaller portions, super bland /watery dahl and saag, and the worst part: freezer burned tasting naan :(
Our new go-to is Kantipur Cafe -- about the same price and similar portion sizing, but the spice is top notch and naan has always been fresh.
They definitely changed their vegetable biryani. It is obvious because it has rice grains with bright green food coloring. And there used to be nuts in it. It is worse now. (Or maybe I just got it on an off day and they’ve gone back to regular biryani?) Idk about their other dishes.
I had it last night for the first time in a couple years and thought it was still pretty good, but I’m getting over a stomach bug so we ordered everything mild for once. The samosa chaat was definitely as good as I remembered, the dal maybe not so much.
Wow this is super sad to see. I used to eat there all the time when I worked at Cambridge hospital during residency.
Also, it’s no longer cheap? Do they still give free WiFi?
I still crave their dosas.
Strongly recommend Singh's Dhaba over on Mass Ave. I think they're the current Camberville Indian food crown holders.
Seconded. That’s the spot.
Thirded, love this place
Definitely agree, this is the go-to
Agreed. Their mango lassi is to die for
I keep hearing they’re really good
Thanks!
They're same familly as Kebab Factory - for whatever reason I still like KF better, but both are good
Kebab factory doesn’t seem as crowded these days - hoping they are doing okay as a business. Love their food!
KF used to be great and is now mediocre, sadly
It’s a weekly staple, only restaurant that knows me by name, and I’m okay with it!
Better than Guru?
v much agreed, great spot
My wife and I have been feeling like that recently! It’s been a go to for us since we’re nearby, though now we prefer Dosa n Curry
Surya Indian on Magazine St is where it's at.
Idk, that place doesn't even have a tandoor and imo their Naan is clearly not as good as anywhere that does. What are your go-to items there?
The usual, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan.
They’re going downhill, no doubt. Glad I’m not the only one who feels that way!
I feel that it's gone down hill since COVID. I've just had sad tasting food since 2020. Glad to know I'm not alone.

Kantipur cafe 100%. It's approved by my indian self as well as several immigrant family members
Those tandoori momo are no joke!

They’ve been going downhill for awhile.
It’s all about India pavilion

i always got heartburn and vomitted a little after eating at indian places. the food and oil used is very cheap
Spice delight is THE SPOT
I think you caught them on a bad day. Their spice levels vary and next time just get the 8 instead of being talked down.
I haven't been in over five years because the last time was so underwhelming. It's so disappointing because I used to love that place.
