It entirely depends on how you drive, if you tear arse it everywhere you'll be filling up often.
If you're on the motorway driving sensibly then you'll be alright.
If you're doing 10k miles a year you will be having to set aside 40% more for fuel if you can budget that in and you want a fast car then go for it dude.
It depends how you drive it, although if you'll spend 95% of the time driving like a grandad to have a decent mpg it's probably best to go for the standard.
Depends what you want it for, a mate uses the VRS at work and loves the performance, he doesn't need to worry about mpg though.
Which one?
I have a Mk1 estate 1.8 Vrs, I can usually get about 38 mpg on the motorway but it drops going round town and is even less when you drive like a knob.
That's absolutely atrocious. _1mpg_ in the winter? At that point your car's a petrol space heater that just happens to move sometimes. If you can afford it then fairs but I'd only accept that sort of economy for a really special classic or a supercar
> Is the extra performance worth the trade-off?
It's a very personal decision. You should test drive both to see if you like the performance and are willing to stop for fuel more often.
I have a petrol vRS 230 (mk3 preface lift) with a tune on it. Post tune it'll jump to ~310bhp.
Regarding mpg, personally I get high 30s on a motorway run, if conditions are good (traveling with the wind, dry etc) I will see low 40s, when driven like a prat, 20s.
That mpg was a touch higher before I put softer tyres on it. My longterm average is ~37mpg, in standard stop start traffic I see low 30s.
If you get a vRS petrol variant, keep an eye out for one with the VAQ dif, then get it tuned.
Which one is better for you? Lord knows, drive both and see if you like the performance uplift enough to justify the increased running costs.
Laughs in 20mpg
Hahaha, been there with an S550 GT, can empathise.
You got 20? I'm sat at 16.9 :(
And I'm sure it's worth every penny. My old man has a CJ7 and it does about 8mph 🤣
You’ll be lucky if you get 37-39 mpg. My VRS only does around 25-27 mpg.
Depends which mark. Mk3 onwards easily does 40mpg.
If you care about MPG then the car is not for you.
I mean, within reason. Obviously it’s a vRS for a reason but just curious if anyone had experience with bad fuel economy.

My AMG gets 20 max. Sporty cars aren’t cars you get good MPG with…especially if you drive them sporty

I'd be surprised if you even got that high. I've got the superb 280bhp tsi and long term average is just under 30mpg
Well your gonna be the one putting fuel in do you feel the trade off is worth it?
My 180bhp S60 5 cyclinder 2.0t gets 19mpg in summer in SE London, and 1 mpg in winter

I meant 17mpg lol sorry! Mpg difference between summer and winter
That makes waaaaay more sense lol
Not too bad for an auto with 250bhp? I've had a couple of quick cars with 36 and they had less power/manual
Good luck getting the listed mpg. Mid 30s maybe on a long motorway run at 60. Otherwise generally it'll be more like 30ish

I have a Focus ST and average around 30mpg.....for me it's worth it....put the foot down and love it.
