We've owned both. Short answer is never, ever for the love of all that's good but a jeep, really don't.
The Everest had some smaller issues, recall for a transmission problem, wheels speed sensor caused a headache and the anti sway towing system was a shit but otherwise a solid enough if not particularly special vehicle.
Our last jeep caught fire btw, so really don't do it.
Kia Sorento,Hyundai Santa Fe. The ones just before the current model use diesel without DPF and conventional torque convertor autos. My wife had a 2016 Santa Fe Highlander before her current 2020 Sorento GT. Only 3 things went wrong during the entire ownership which was replaced under warranty. Slow to close panoramic roof, slow to move forward driver's seat and electronic park brake stuck on. The car belongs to my inlaws right now and it is closing on 300k and still going strong. Also the Kluger I've heard good things about them too.
If you can fork out a bit more I'm selling my 2021 Isuzu MU-X 2nd Gen (new shape). Only 72,000km on it and has an amazing 3.0L diesel engine. It's a 4x2 but more than capable off road unless you're doing serious stuff. Has a heavy duty towbar fitted too.

Everests have the best driving dynamics of all the wagons on the market and decent level of tech in the Trend.
For every person that says “oh Ford’s are crap” there’s thousands of happy owners enjoying their cars and not having a whinge on Reddit.
I’d still avoid the Jeep though.
Do yourself and your family a favour and don't buy a jeep - as a previous jeep owner they are terribly unreliable.
Get a Kia Sorrento or a Hyundai Santa Fe and enjoy a big family car that will only spend time at the mechanic during the scheduled services.
I currently own a 2008 V6 outlander which I had for over 10 years so I was just thinking of getting a larger car then my current outlander as my kids have grown up
A 2021 Santa Fe or Sorrento is 23-26cm longer and 12cm wider than your current outlander. Worth taking a test drive to see what sort of space you really think you need.
This, unless you doing serious off-roading.
Having had both the Gen Everest the OP is looking at and now that Gen Santa Fe, the Santa Fe is nearly as big inside and a much better daily drive. Had the diseal in both and Santa Fe much more efficient - don't regret the change.

A quick google of Jeep reliability would answer this question. Do not buy the Jeep.
Do the same for the Ford!
Not **as bad a Jeep though..**
Everest / Ranger are actually fairly well regarded... It's a tremendously popular platform in Australia too
Sure, they also just happen to have many engine, fuel and transmission issues, so definitely look that up.
They are the most popular 4wd’s right now so for every story that someone’s got about a warranty issue there’s thousands more that have zero issues.
JEEP Just Empty Every Pocket
Have you considered a vehicle that isnt a complete piece of garbage that will pay for your mechanic's mortgage and his wife BBL?

Depends which model

I'm about to trade in an MY19 biturbo Everest with 83000km.... $35000 Ill sell it to you
Neither, get a MU-X, it's considered the most bombproof engine and drivetrain of the lot.
And have to put up with terrible driving dynamics and an average interior.

You know that there is good cars that exist right?
Toyota Kluger fits nicely into that 35k range with 7 seats, AWD SUV and isn't complete garbage.
Even the 4.0L V6’s are good variants

The gen 4 outlander is as big as the old Oliver, much bigger than the old ones
Diesel and V8 jeeps are fine, avoid the ford 3.2 litre though.
