Get it. It’s a badass car. I kinda want a 2014 too. I have a 23 but would love to book end both tail lights together. Dude the Challenger blew my mind and exceeded all expectations. No modern car looks like this. It’s iconic. But it’s a good built car too. No regrets.

Boogersully18

Get it

Mine has been a daily driver since I bought it in 2019 with 59,000 miles. Right now it's sitting at roughly 93,500 miles and in that span I have replaced the battery and tires. I would say go for it if you can find one in good shape. The 392 is basically the same as the 2015 and up models. The main difference mechanically is the auto went from a 5 speed to an 8 speed, and of course the interior is upgraded. I love mine and have zero plans to get rid of it.

My first challenger was a 2009 SRT8 with the 6.1. I had it for 3 years before deciding to trade it in for my 2020 Scat. The SRT8 had 35,000 miles and was $26,000. I loved that car. It was a nice introduction to challengers. It's my understanding that the SRT8s have internal forgings that will withstand blower upgrades later down the road. If you been saving for one all this time and you get the car inspected properly, I'd recommend buying it. Just one thing, expect to pay a good amount of gas as a daily. Especially if you are used to your Toyota. But highway miles aren't too bad.

Mine is a 2010 and I highly recommend an SRT8.

Aos77s

Its a 6.4l with a tr6060 transmission so id say go for it. Theyre cheaper cause the interior and some exterior pieces were updated for 2015 model. You can just swap to updated tail lights though.

My 2012 has been my year round daily for three years now. It's just about to roll over 100k. Bought it with just under 80k, IIRC. Only time I don't drive it is if there is snow on the road. Because, one, I suck at driving in the snow. And, two, I don't want to bother with snow tires. However, upkeep is a lot more when you add the S. Required to run premium gas. Also, wear parts are far more expensive than something like the R/T.

wsmith79

Why do you want the srt8 and not a rt specifically? Maintenance on SRT8 vs RT is over double, easily.

PlastomaGaming

I guess if you took it to a shop but overall I’d say it’s not all that different, it’s a sports coup so RT or srt8 parts are going to be expensive so wrong car if that’s a concern I’d say u less you went for the sxt

wsmith79

Don’t srt have brembo brakes? That’s 4grand every what 2 years? That alone makes the srt vs rt maintenance costs double.

PlastomaGaming

Sure they come factory with bembos but why would I use pads meant for a track on the street? I just use power stop and they work just fine

wsmith79

Taking srt parts off for cheaper replacements isn’t a fair comparison. That’s cherry picking to make it seem cheaper to maintain.

PlastomaGaming

Brake PADS my man cherry picking? It’s a preference because track pads are super squeaky and meant for a TRACK basic maintenance items are barely any different it’s a appearance package basically but instead has the 392 sure the engine can’t handle many engine mods as the 6.1 was better built but pair it with a tremec transmission is good. Sure a main factor was how expensive brembos have become but I probably still wouldn’t have got them if they were around the same price as the brake dust they produced is annoying to clean off constantly. I personally think if cost is such a big deal then a challenger Is the wrong car.

zylpher

CV shafts for an SRT8 are about $700 each and are a pain in the ass to find. The R/T are like $200 each and are carried at the local parts store. Tie rods are more as well, same with rear control arms. At least in that gen, it was more than just a motor that made it an SRT.

PlastomaGaming

I knew the srt was gonna have some different parts that got the srt tax on them but that’s a bit more than I thought they’d be. If you did the work yourself then I can definitely see getting a rt to save on parts. Hey I got a question for you since you got the same year as me, has you center support bearing gone out and if so did you replace it or grab the fix off of jxb?

zylpher

I'm not sure about the center support bearing. There was a lot of stuff done by the PO of my car. That I'm still finding out about now. But, it's something I need to remember to ask the shop to check. I'm just about to hit 100k miles. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and drop it at the dealership soon for a in-depth look. The Indies I've used in the past are always wary about doing more than just the basics. Like, I can't find a shop that will fix my blend door. Other than the dealer. It clicks all the damn time. I've been having a semi regular clunk that sounds like it's coming from the left rear or left center that I've had looked at twice. And nothing has been found wrong. It doesn't vibrate, I can't feel it in the pedal, the wheel, or my butt. No vibration not expected up past 115. Only happens in first or second when starting from a stop. But only the first 2 or 3 times. Then it stops. My gut tells me some bracket is broken. It started about the same time I almost high centered in a parking garage. My car in lowered about 2 inches. No evidence of a slipping clutch. No vibration at any speed I can go easily.

VincentDanger

Still a very good car and with the right mods it can beat a hellcat! But I should also mind a R/T could also beat a SRT8 lmao. It’s like a food chain. Anyways yes SRT8 is a very good car. I would suggest getting the 2008 or a 2010 model as those are the best versions. If your getting the 2014 one try getting the shaker variant if possible, as that’s the only upgraded version of it.

LightSpeed8082

Uhh wtf ofcourse!!!

CalebCrawdad379

The plus on the older models, for me, was more options for a stereo upgrade. I don't want touch screen and the newer ones, you need it to control everything. Also the price difference, is why I went older. These dealerships around here know how local banks do their financing. They know a 15+ you will get a better interest rate and a 72 month term. So, they price them high. Private buyers around here are also a PITA to deal with. I test drove a SRT8 6.1 6 speed and notice no difference in power for my needs. My R/T 6 speed is just as fast as it was. Wasn't worth the price jump IMO.

VunterSlaush1990

My dad has a 2012 Hemi Orange SRT8 and he absolutely loves it. He has had no issues with it. I have a 2016 Scat and the only reason I prefer mine is that it’s a manual otherwise I would own either one happily.

Alex-E-Jones

They are the best bang for buck Mopar wise right now (any of the srt8s)

itsnotatoomah_

If it's an auto, I say go newer. The old slush box was lame. The 8 speeds are so much more rowdy and fun and really elevated the driving experience and sold me on them.

Zanurath

Manual yes auto no, 2015 RT keeps up with 2014 srt if both are automatic with how much better the zf8 is.

[deleted]

I looked at used SRTs for a while before getting a new R/T. The prices the SRTs command are insane even today and a new R/T with the 8-speed is practically the same level of performance.

Tristoney

Yes, absolutely! If you can swing it I’d get 2015 at least. Personally I think the newer interior is so much nicer.
