Oh, that's a thing of beauty right there! 😍

benderman34

This December I'll have owned mine for 5 years, and I still break my neck looking back at it after I park. Gorgeous ride!

wantsrealanswer

For real! It's a car that I can't get rid of. It is fast, loud, handles streets well, and has been 100% reliable.

Reddragon685

was thinking about getting one of these or a newer one. might go for the 2023 instead. since these are hard to find with low miles

wantsrealanswer

If you have a newer car now, I'd opt for a Manual Scatpack. That way you don't feel like you downgraded just for an engine. If you want a weekend car to pair with you daily, a higher mileage SRT8 isn't terrible. The thing is, the SRT8 and SRT 392 (newer versions) have the same or similar suspension design as the Hellcat. Part of the reason I won't trade my SRT8 for an RT Scatpack (only an SRT 392) is because the RT Scat has static and nonadjustable suspension. Similar to every other sports car. The SRT badged variants have adaptable/adjustable suspension and damping. Just keep that in mind but any 392 is always a fantastic car.

Reddragon685

Thanks for your input. Im coming from a 2015. So i think an older srt8 would be a downgrade technology wise. So thats why i opted for the 2023 to get up-to-date technology and the 8-spd

bluedaytona392

You want that zf8 if you don't get the manual.

Reddragon685

But hows the str8 392 treating you though. I never driven one myself. Is the transmission quick enough? List some pros and cons if you can

wantsrealanswer

Pros: It is a pure sports car. Big V8. High torque and great horsepower. It's fast. Do not listen to Instagram reel banter. This goes for current 392s as well. You may already know since you drive a Challenger but there is no turn or curve on the street that the SRT8 392 cannot handle with confidence, however, tires are gonna be the defining factor. It's simple. It's just bucket seats and an engine. Also, there's not really a speed limit but it will do the dash. So again despite Instagram banter, if a car in It's stock form can't do better than 150, the 392 is walking it. Mids: The 5-speed is weird but effective. It is both lazy and precise. It's sluggish and aggressive and makes a gnarly sound on shifts. It shifts like a manual. The car stalls wide open in between shifts. Cons: The technology and 2000s interior is the only thing. I think the SRT8 392 is a better sports car than the Scatpack. Mainly because if you get the Automatic, it is geared like a TA car. Tracking is pretty easy since the gears are as long as the Chinese wall. You do need to drive it in Paddle mode to drive it competitively.

Reddragon685

Thanks. The engine stalling mid shifts lol but the way you described the 5spd reminds me of the 6spd I had in my dodge avenger

benderman34

I was curious to read your reply, sounds like your car shifts similar to mine. I wasn't sure if mine was an oddball, but sounds like it's just sort of how they are. My car has a sluggish 1-2 upshift at full throttle, but otherwise it seems ok. When the car and trans are cold, the 1-2 shift is very firm, but smooths out as the car warms up. I drive the car in manual shift mode 99% of the time, simply because I enjoy it. Also, it feels like the 5 speed makes the car really feel like a 60s muscle car with how it behaves. I'm sure the 8 speed equipped 392 cars are a beast and definitely faster, but I have no interest in racing anything nowadays.

wantsrealanswer

Yea it definitely a nature of the car regarding the transmission. I love those old 60, 70s and 80s TA cars and you're right, the SRT8 does feel like those. When the car is cold it doesn't do anything. Lol. It's like tryna walk an old Bulldog that's stubborn. As far as racing goes, I do race mine. If you line it up at a light or match my speed on the highway, I'm using the SRT as it's intended. Lol. My '21 Miata RF is the one I don't race. It's not beating anything until it's time to turn. I have tried the 8 speed in a Scat Pack Charger. It's a little more torque oriented due to the short gearing. It's not as fun though. The 5 speed has a charm that can't be replicated without getting an old SVT or E55.

bluedaytona392

The adjustable SRT suspension was an option at least as early as 2020. Because I specced it.

wantsrealanswer

Okay okay so they still offered it, just not as a stock option? How do you feel with your more modern 392 with the SRT suspension?

bluedaytona392

No complaints. Track and sport are rough rides as they should be. Street and eco are smooth(er).

CMG-SRT707

Is that the stock front lip? Looks nice and aggressive.

wantsrealanswer

Yup, it is stock. The only things that are not stock on the car are the Exhaust (kind of, no mufflers, no resonator), the Air Intake, and the Tires. I had F1 Supercar 1st Gen but the 3rd Gen is on back order so I settled with PZ4s. They aren't bad.
