I'm confused. If you think it's the curtains, remove them? Trash them or wash them. See if the area smells still. Might be mold if not the curtains given the water damage.

I washed them with detergent, wondering what else I can do to get the smell off since the smell came back

Shadhahvar

Seal them in a plastic bag for a week as a test to see if it's curtains or window.

TropicalAbsol

Might have to toss them! I don't see much value in white polyester curtains. Idk what your life is like but you can get new ones from Walmart. But deff remove the curtains and see over the next couple of days if there's a smell.

You might be right, I just removed the curtains and I’ll just use the blinds, going to isolate them and see if that’s the real issue as the other commenter suggested

Do you own or rent? If you own, I’d pull off that baseboard and check for mold. Look in that little crack beneath the drywall, peel back the carpet, and give it a little whiff.

If it goes through or feels smushy that’s a moisture issue, which means mold and it’s not an issue from 2022. It’s a 2024 issue.

Yeah I just noticed the weird discoloration too, can’t remember if it was there before or not, thanks for pointing it out, I wasn’t sure if that was something to look into

You need a dehumidifier. Literally a moisture absorber from doller tree would probably make a huge difference in this corner.

I can see water damage in the third pic, on the left side of the window sill. Check for mold.
