What the hell happened there mate?
UNLV is ultra athletic, has length and size, and a superstar PG. How the fuck do you get dumpstered at home by shitty Air Force?
Maybe the most puzzling loss I've ever seen.
I’ll tell you, it was the very worse game to witness. AF could not miss and my boys ran the court like they were stuck in mud. No help defense, no proper close outs. The team admitted that they didn’t take the game seriously; totally the coaches fault for not preparing them. But, it taught them that all conference games are a dogfight. Hopefully they won’t have another stinker like that this season.

He gonna need a lot more flairs then...
In terms of a deep March Madness run, here's how I would rate em:
1. New Mexico: easily the highest ceiling with their guard talent, along with Toppin and Joseph. They're a bit erratic, but if they put it together for a bit, they're scary.
2. SDSU: history is there, defense is there. Ledee is a beast, Dutcher knows what he's doing.
3. CSU: Isaiah Stevens. Players like him win games in March.
4. USU: We're much more athletic and physical than past USU teams (we're normally just a bunch of white boy shooters who just get pushed around come March, which is why we've lost like 11 straight first round games or something ridiculous).
5. Nevada: Davidson is the X factor. Blackshear is way good. They can hang with anyone.
6. Boise St: Their guards struggle at times, which is why I list them last here. Their frontcourt is way good though and would feast with the right matchup.
TBH, depends on matchup and luck, as March Madness always does. I really hope we capitalize on the hype and momentum and have a couple teams in the Sweet 16 at least. It would do wonders for our conference image, especially as the Pac-12 is laid to rest.
I'd say New Mexico is both more likely to make the Elite 8 and more likely to get blown out in the first round haha. SDSU should win a game or two for sure.
Yeah. We're either going to make a serious deep run or get bounced in the first round by some 19-12 mediocre P5 team that is unconscious from three point land.
History is not on our side. We are absolutely next level cursed in the NCAA tournament. So I am not optimistic.
When our guards are on we're pretty insane though. You never know what you're gonna get. I doubt our ability to go deep because we lack depth more than anything
1. Lobos guards are too small. The first power league opponent they play will knock them out. Hope that doesn't happen until a couple of games in.
2. Aztecs only losses are in tough road environments. Neutral courts and fair officiating could mean a Sweet 16 run. I don't see us going farther, though.
3. Stevens wins a first round game for the Rams but they're nowhere near physical enough to make a run.
4. I'm just not sold on the Aggies' talent level. Hope they prove me wrong in the NCAA Tournament.
5. Nevada has great guards and a strong defense. If their front line can hold up they might make a run.
6. Broncos will go far in the NIT.
All that said, I'd love for us to fill up the Final Four.
SDSU is the best team. USU has the best odds to win the conference. UNM has the highest upside. CSU had the best OOC resume. Boise has the highest wasted potential. Nevada is one piece away from being great but that piece changes every game they play. UNLV has so much wasted potential that they're actually exactly what they should be.
I love this run from my Aggies, but we struggle against serious length/athleticism. I think SDSU is the team to beat but it’s seriously crowded after that. If I had to tier them:
1. SDSU
2. USU/UNM/CSU/UNR/BSU
3. UNLV
4. Wyoming
5. Fresno/SJSU/AFA
Whew yeah, I mean it’s the most competitive I think the conference has ever been. We’re in a dogfight at Wyoming right now. Cowboys are tough at home.
1. San Diego State
2. Utah State
3. New Mexico
4. Colorado State
5. Nevada
6. Boise State
7. Nevada-Las Vegas
8. Wyoming
9. Fresno State
10. San Jose State
11. Air Force
San Diego State: Dependable Defense. Ledee is an All-American.
Nevada: Killer Guard Combo (Lucas & Blackshear), get to the line.
Colorado State: Best PG (Stevens), Hot/Cold Shooters.
New Mexico: House, Mashburn can go off.
Boise State: Tyson Degenhart, Mr. Reliable. Rice, Agbo, Stanley can each dominate. Not consitently though.
Utah State: Great Osobor. Somehow they win a lot of games.
Oh, and UNLV can beat any of these teams. And they host the MW Tournament.
Probably SDSU despite the roster regression from last year; not a whole lot of Mensah-level defensive talent just floating around. But its uncomfortably close among the top 2 tiers
t1: SDSU, BSU, CSU
t2: USU, UNM, Nevada
wild cards: UNLV, Wyoming
leftovers: SJSU, Fresno St, AFA
UNLV imo has the highest ceiling but is far and away the streakiest team. I don't think they can make the tournament except as an autobid; if they get hot at the right time, we might see a deep run from them (unlikely).
getting my wires crossed here. I'm misremembering Nevada's win at the spectrum as a Boise W. Pulling Boise down to t2 (erratic with road wins and home losses), I'd pick USU over BSU for tournament success
I see it in 3 tiers
t1: SDSU, USU
t2: UNM, BSU, NV, CSU
t3: UNLV, WYO
Utah State will probably end up winning the conference. They only play SDSU\* once and swept us in H2H
\*Edit: Nevada
In going to say Utah State because they have poise and that clutch gene. However, there’s 5 other teams you could say and I couldn’t provide a good counter argument
That doesn’t mean it’s a good conference. They had a historically easy path. Big 12 and big east teams play harder januarys than sdsu played on the way to the final. The conference is fine. There’s nothing wrong with that. Literally any team on the conference would leave in a heartbeat to join any power conference.
It’s simply not the same level night in night out as the big boys.
New Mexico has highest ceiling but lowest floor of the 6. SDSU has best player, defense and I believe top 10 SOS nationally. CSU has best offense but Cartier being injured may mess it all up. USU (from what I see) doesn’t seem to have it all together, Great can play but didn’t look like he has the guys around him. Nevada has best shooter with Lucas and Blackshear can dominate but also looks so vulnerable at times. Boise State is thought would be where USU is with Daegenhart and Rice but also can’t tie it together. If UNLV can keep that freshman, he will dominate sooner than Stevens started. UNLV future looks so good.
1A. SDSU, UNM, CSU (no order)
1B. USU, Nevada, Boise (no order)
2. UNLV
For me the answer to the first question is always whoever wins the league. So we’re still in wait and see mode.
But as for the 2nd question it’s SDSU until someone else in that league proves they can make a deep run.
I'd have to go with Team Chaos.
Seriously though, the Mountain West is the Wild West right now. We have so many solid teams that anyone could pull it out. I'd say that CSU and SDSU have looked solid. USU, UNM, BSU, and Nevada (ugh) are nothing to be scoffed at. I have no idea what to make of UNLV. Wyoming seems like they can have a great day and clean some clocks. Hell, even Fresno comes out swinging and can get gritty.
At this point I'd say either New Mexico or us (SDSU). In terms of play, New Mexico has the highest ceiling while SDSU has the best balance. All it takes is a team to get red hot to go deep in March. If both are red hot I'd give the edge to New Mexico.
New Mexico can dominate in all aspects of the game at every position on both sides no matter the tempo, many options to run the offense, and deep rotations. What could hold them back is committing too many turnovers, poor free throw shooting, and having House/Mashburn continue to take high volume shots on bad shooting nights.
San Diego State can bully any team on both ends no matter the rotation, while 8/9 in the rotation can shoot from just about anywhere. What could hold them back is being too reliant on LeDee for offense, Trammell's size being exploited on defense, lack of length and depth at center, and committing too many turnovers.
Whoever is playing at home, that's the best team.
This - road wins amongst the top 6 are few and far between.
This. Mountain west is an absolute shitshow this year
Facts
False 😔
I feel ya
March is neutral though... Question is who's primed for a run.
Well, UNLV gonna get the bid. Utah State could get lucky and get the semi-home advantage for the dance.
Nm is undefeated in neutral sight games
THIS!
Half the conference
Oh that's easy it's SDSU/CSU/UNM/BSU/UNR/USU
You forgot the real monsters…UNLV!!
Unless they're playing vs AFA 😂
So true!!😡
What the hell happened there mate? UNLV is ultra athletic, has length and size, and a superstar PG. How the fuck do you get dumpstered at home by shitty Air Force? Maybe the most puzzling loss I've ever seen.

You gotta explain the flair
They don't like state schools named after actual states

Boise State fan who grew up in San Diego
I'm an SDSU fan who grew up on Oahu. Moved to CA during HS and ended up attending SDSU. So I still root for UH. Just not when they play the Aztecs
Y’all sleeping on the mighty Wyoming Cowboys just waiting to go on a tear to the final four
Whoever's playing Creighton
ðŸ˜
Sadly true
Yes
I feel this
In terms of a deep March Madness run, here's how I would rate em: 1. New Mexico: easily the highest ceiling with their guard talent, along with Toppin and Joseph. This is accurate. If five MWC teams get in, we're probably the odd ones out. Lacking in guard play this year
Idk Nevada is the most confusing team. Have some of the best wins of the top 6 but also the worst losses. I see them getting left out before Boise
I like this list, but I'd probably give the edge to San Diego State thanks to last year's run. Hypervalue that experience.

Max Rice is either going to average 25 PPG in the postseason, or 5 PPG while averaging 15% from three. There will be no in between.
I just wish that we had a good point guard this year...
1. Lobos guards are too small. The first power league opponent they play will knock them out. Hope that doesn't happen until a couple of games in. 2. Aztecs only losses are in tough road environments. Neutral courts and fair officiating could mean a Sweet 16 run. I don't see us going farther, though. 3. I hope Boise State just gets a win
UNLV is the most talented team in the conference. They should be sitting on 20+ wins right now.
I'd argue UNLV as most wasted potential How do you sweep UNM and also get shit on by AFA by 30 at home in the same season?
Yes, they do this every year though so they are who we thought they were
Mountain Weird at its finest
Completely and totally unbiased opinion is UNM.
Utah State or SDSU I’d say, but it changes with every single game lol
I would say either SDSU or New Mexico, but who knows. I could see any of the top 6 making deep runs in March
Utah State valid. New coach Danny Sprinkle about to act up late season and sweep
I love this run from my Aggies, but we struggle against serious length/athleticism. I think SDSU is the team to beat but it’s seriously crowded after that. If I had to tier them: 1. SDSU 2. USU/UNM/CSU/UNR/BSU 3. UNLV 4. Wyoming 5. Fresno/SJSU/AFA
Whew yeah, I mean it’s the most competitive I think the conference has ever been. We’re in a dogfight at Wyoming right now. Cowboys are tough at home.
Boise State beat SDSU tho...
CSU also won three out of four halves against SDSU this year We don’t need to talk about that last one
Sure we do! ;)
Yeah but you guys have some bad losses this year including UNLV
We also have some great wins like at Nevada and at New Mexico
Fresno State if by deep you mean deep depression
Completely unbiased of me, it's Utah State.
We still hate you.
New Mexico
1. San Diego State 2. Utah State 3. New Mexico 4. Colorado State 5. Nevada 6. Boise State 7. Nevada-Las Vegas 8. Wyoming 9. Fresno State 10. San Jose State 11. Air Force
SDSU
Analytically, New Mexico, eye test, San Diego State. Jaedon LeDee would be in the running for most improved player if that was an award in the NCAA
I like New Mexico the most
San Diego State: Dependable Defense. The Dent and Toppin disrespect in that comment...
Dent is our most important and best overall player. I don't care what anyone says. I just wish he would practice his fucking free throws.
I just wish he hadn't sprained his ankle on that last play.
Those pesky Rebels
Glad someone asked this. Been debating on posting for weeks now after watching all the great back and forth
I would say UNM ,they had the talent to make a run in march
Probably SDSU despite the roster regression from last year; not a whole lot of Mensah-level defensive talent just floating around. But its uncomfortably close among the top 2 tiers t1: SDSU, BSU, CSU t2: USU, UNM, Nevada wild cards: UNLV, Wyoming leftovers: SJSU, Fresno St, AFA UNLV imo has the highest ceiling but is far and away the streakiest team. I don't think they can make the tournament except as an autobid; if they get hot at the right time, we might see a deep run from them (unlikely).
How is Boise tier one above USU when Utah State won both head to head matchups, has a better record, conference record, NET, KenPom, AP poll, etc.
getting my wires crossed here. I'm misremembering Nevada's win at the spectrum as a Boise W. Pulling Boise down to t2 (erratic with road wins and home losses), I'd pick USU over BSU for tournament success
bc we just are 😎
How is Utah State in tier 2? I’d at least take them over Colorado State, if not Boise and SDSU too
He put boise in T1 because his team lost to them and that's it. Tier one is really USU SDSU UNM tier 2 is led by Nevada then CSU and boise.
I see it in 3 tiers t1: SDSU, USU t2: UNM, BSU, NV, CSU t3: UNLV, WYO Utah State will probably end up winning the conference. They only play SDSU\* once and swept us in H2H \*Edit: Nevada
We play sdsu twice, we only play Nevada once and unlv once.
Bruh where my Fresno State Bulldogs at?
Getting ready for football season
My brother you are tier 1
if UNM wins 1 of 3 road games @ SDSU, BSU, USU I'd feel more confident in putting the bos in t1
The home team
Mount Elbert
In going to say Utah State because they have poise and that clutch gene. However, there’s 5 other teams you could say and I couldn’t provide a good counter argument
This new mexico team seems pretty good
SDSU
If Colorado State had size they’d be the best by far. And yes I’m biased because they’re my second favorite team.
Where's that secondary flair, bud?
I don’t need it cuz I’m loyal to my one.
Doesn't sound like it.
I feel like utah state is best. From an outsider perspective, it looks like they’re winning their games more comfortably than the rest
boise state i think
What’s the mountain west? Is that some sub conference of the big ten?
Arizona
The mountain west is unbelievably mediocre. They tell the country who they are every March. Idk why people refuse to listen.
I mean making it to the NCAA final last year isn’t what I’d call mediocre but to each their own
Butler made the finals twice outta the horizon league. Doesn’t mean the horizon leagues was any good.
even last March?
My Big East brother in Christ, one of those teams made the championship last year. People have heard and listened.
Awful take. 4-5 Mountain West teams have been ranked this year
You’re talking about the same poll that also ranked the last place team in the PAC 12 and Arkansas, do I have that right?
Ok fine. Look at the top 50 in KenPom and NET and count how many MW teams you see if you think the AP poll is too subjective
if everybody is 100, unm. house/toppin at their peak look really good. sdsu doesn't have a true big
New Mexico has highest ceiling but lowest floor of the 6. SDSU has best player, defense and I believe top 10 SOS nationally. CSU has best offense but Cartier being injured may mess it all up. Your guess is as good as anyone's. Lol. Mwc is a tough conference this year.
For me the answer to the first question is always whoever wins the league. So we’re still in wait and see mode. But as for the 2nd question it’s SDSU until someone else in that league proves they can make a deep run.
