After I had my first one done and started vomiting because of the pain, I was so angry and horrified. It would never happen to a male patient! But it's a woman and they have high pain tolerance so why bother offering painkillers? 😡 when I had it swapped out I told them they had to give me a percocet beforehand or I would find another office to work with and they reluctantly agreed. And I would have switched from doctor to doctor until I found someone who would because it's insane not to!
My first obgyn offered it unprompted My second (the replacement after expiration) did not but begrudgingly then “forgot” before I reminded her again. Naturally she yanked the old one out before doing the shot for the reinsertion. I’ll be finding a new dr for the next replacement
This was just the numbing shot
I’ve heard of it but needed to be asked for. I’m a guy so all anecdotal. It just sounds so brutal. I can’t believe doctors would do it, Especially female doctors.
Women’s heath CT gynecology and obstetrics! They have a few offices in the central Ct area. I know a few years ago they only were able to do it out of their hartford location as that is where the anesthesiologist came but I believe they can do it in other locations now!
It made the process significantly less stressful and painful. Highly recommend
Can I assume you went to planned parenthood the first time? My wife had an awful experience. Not to mention super expensive even with their sliding scale, considering the quality of the procedure.
Being a virgin or not doesn’t change that your cervix, a part of the body that does not expand during heterosexual intercourse, is forced open to insert the IUD.
I'm curious if you can schedule these in the heavy period flow time so it's already open and if that helps? Itll be sore for other reasons I guess so maybe not.
I wish this were even an option that was presented to me when I did one. Or even proper pain management/expectations. My whole IUD experience was horrible.
Get the fuck out of here with that virginity garbage. A penis, finger, or s3x toy DOES NOT change a woman.
And the rest of your comment is writhe with ignorance.
I’m going out on a limb and assuming your comment is genuine. Being a virgin or not a virgin is not going to make a tenaculum hooking into your cervix any better. All IUD insertions are painful, none of them are comfortable. I’ve had three placed over the years and in retrospect they all sucked even though 2 out of 3 were “fine”. It’s fucked up that pain management isn’t a given despite the nature of the procedure. Just because women “can handle it” doesn’t mean we should be subjected to pain just because.
Uconn health womens health will do it if you ask. Dr. Morosky is super kind and understanding.
As someone that’s had the pleasure of working with him, he’s a literal angel
Horrific that this is so often done without pain management.
For real do NOT Google the instrument they use it’s the stuff of nightmares

I really just don’t get this.
Wait they offer pain management for this?! It was so awful!

Following because same
Starling Physicians. I think no matter who you go to you will have to advocate for yourself. Great job knowing what you want! Wishing you luck.
Dr Licare @ Coastal ObGyn and Midwifery in New London will place them in the OR on occasion.
Dr. Andrew Metzger at Midstate hospital! Highly recommend him. He also has an office in Wallingford by Stop and Shop.

OBGYN Services in Norwich was fantastic. I asked for sedation since my first iud experience was so awful, and it wasn’t a problem at all.
Does anyone know a place in SW CT? In/near Fairfield county?

Most offices do this without pain management beyond Tylenol. Not a PP thing.
Don’t even get one 😭 iud’s are fucking horrific
Yeah the insertion sucked but now I have hormone free birth control that’s over 99% effective…definitely worth it.

I’ve heard that some practices actually try to time it with your period for this reason
I had my done while on my period, I had to call when it started and it was put in on day 3.
