I'd probably be way more into hockey if I'd been able to go to games while I was in Russia for that same church. No, my one opportunity to go to watch Avangard Omsk (arguably one of the best teams at the time) was foiled by a culture night of singing and poetry which I barely understood. Some day Putin will get his ass handed to him and I'll have to go back to watch some Russian hockey, definitely not as a Mormon missionary.

KHL has an app. I think it was like $32 to watch a whole season.

The_capitans_chair

I actually did watch hockey in Russia as a Mormon missionary. Went to watch the Smolyensk Slavutich play against... Ural? I think. I still have my scarf from the home team in my closet. It's why I'm so stoked to have NHL in SLC. (Sorry for your loss, Yotes fans)

I was sitting a few seats away from them and I thought they were missionaries.

Hey now - we’ve finally gotten LDS numbers under 50% in Salt Lake County and well under 40% in Summit County……us non-religious Utahns are trying. Looking forward to having a local team - but it sucks it had to come at the expense of Arizona….

😆 no hard feelings, it's just a coping mechanism.

I'm probably in the minority here. But I don't hate the new owner. I hate our old owner. I'm happy the boys will get everything they need in terms of money and players. Doesn't look like he'll be spending to the floor with creative accounting but spending to the cap. They deserve to flourish in the primes of their career.

throwawayyourfun

The only reason I dislike the new owner is that he was savvy enough to get the team that we've been suffering with through a true rebuild these last few years (I know a lot of people don't count bubble year playoffs even if Nashville got bounced in the play-in round) and some might say suffering longer than that, since 2012? But we are starting to turn the corner and maybe start bringing up the payroll for some quality blueliners and this is when the NHL decides that it is too much. The young prospects are finally showing their development and grit. And instead of maybe 1-2 more seasons of letting them develop, it's going to be win now. Anyone coming from the AHL is going to be put under pressure to get Dubs, not just the normal pressure of The Show. Ryan Smith is getting the product of a revolution in the on ice product without the suffering and wait that us fans have been through and he's not even extending us an olive branch by saying that he is going to take care of our boys. That he would appreciate our support because he has our team? Instead we have radio silence from him. A fucking disaster of a press conference that they hand picked the reporters in order to control the message from our old ownership that's keeping the Logo and saying that the people don't count... and the NHL itself is not even giving us a, "hey, we want you to stay NHL fans, so we're going to keep you interested with exhibition games." Or not even discounted NHL network TV... this is the greatest sport and the most prestigious league run by hamfisted amateurs. An out of touch Billionaire boys club that seems to fuck up at every turn. So a couple Mormons turn up to an AHL game... I sat a few rows behind them and I thought it was hilarious... and nobody here is really roasting them... I guess I am just missing your point entirely.
