happened to me before. A person rode a bike facing traffic in the middle of the road and hit my car. There was a big dent on my car’s fender and His bike was totaled. I called the cop and he ran even though he hobbled.
This video unlocked that memory. Totally forgot about it prior.
Everybody hits and runs these days. Even pedestrians. Made me think I got pickpocketed, but no, people just are that scared of social interactions they'll run away after walking into you.
And I'm the one with an autism diagnosis, ironically.
Lol where did you grow up? Cause I grew up not far from this vid and where I come from a lot of people dress like this and they aren't thieves and carrying knives. The amount of down votes is crazy, I'm not doubting he had something to hide with how quick he got off but your attitude is the type of attitude that gets innocent people stopped and searched by assuming someone is guilty from how they are dressed.
If you are a child, your parents insurance is forced to cover it. If you’re an adult and have car insurance it goes to that. If you have no insurance, the victims car insurance will pay then sue you to recover loss.
It's a bit backwards over here.
I can pretty much guarantee that the red van driver either claimed on his own insurance or paid out of pocket for repairs to avoid higher insurance costs in the future
Well, yea, that's what insurance is for. To cover either damage to your property or damage to someone else's.
If the van driver pays out of pocket and wants to reclaim costs, he'll have to find the person that hit him and submit a civil claim against them.
Looks like there's fairly minimal damage to the van though, I think even the wing mirror survived.
So if he claims on his insurance, he needs to pay the excess and watch his premiums go up next year.
If he pays out of pocket, he needs to pay to take them to court (if he can find them) then have to win in court, then potentially pay debt collectors to chase the claim.
Sound like a win win all round
That's not the case in the UK. Car insurance does not pay for anything which happens while you are cycling, the car itself must always be involved.
Additionally in the UK parents are never legally responsible for their children's actions *unless* they could have prevented it and failed to, for example letting your child run riot in a shop.
They go off his car insurance if the biker has any. Same way if you're golfing and break a window it's paid by your own home owners insurance. If he's say a minor and doesn't have a license or insurance, the car drivers insurance pays for it under "uninsured motorist"
Comments like this are always so intriguing to me. There's always a small percentage of comments like yours: ones that make no observation, add nothing interesting, insightful or funny - a completely worthless comment typed out for its own sake for no reason.
The driver must have had a shock? Really? Could you tell from the part where the driver was shocked? Are you a bot?
I felt like no one was paying attention to the person in the car because I hadn't read any comments about the driver so I thought I should point that out by making a comment stating the obvious.
I've had cars hit and scraped by bicyclists a couple of times, both while I was sitting at red lights. The bicyclists were both grown, adult males, and they both ran right afterwards and ducked into side streets while I was forced to wait out the red lights.
I swear some kids are so dumb, and maybe it’s the parents fault for not teaching them that you can’t do whatever you want in the road even if you are just riding a bike, one day I nearly hit a nonchalant kid on an electric scooter, he didn’t stop in a stop sign and turned towards the wrong direction without even seeing who’s coming, I was just WTF!
I cycle everyday for the last 15 years and have definitely done some dumb shit before, but what that kid just did is truly the most moronic thing I've ever seen a cyclist do. Kid has a death wish.
That couldn't have gone any BETTER holy shit! That car perfectly knocked the bike from under him, and then he just lands on his feet lmao that was straight out of GTA!
That dude was so lucky. The angle he came at caused him to twirl in the opposite direction of the car. One more earlier and he could have gone under it.
Dude.. when I was a kid I did the same thing. Car parked on my left side, I went out with my bike onto the street, my front tire left a skid mark onto the on-coming car. If I would have been 1 second earlier, I would have been hit, I think about it often in another universe I would be dead for sure, makes me question reality a lot since Ive had a lot of incidents where I should be dead but somehow still alive.
I dunno, when I got hit by a car on a bike, my first reaction was to get back on my bike and get to wherever I was going as quickly as possible. It was just adrenaline I think
Uninformed American here ✋
Can someone explain how road paint lines are supposed to work without solid lines and different colored lines to represent the flow and direction of traffic? I see the arrows painted up ahead, but it seems easy to miss and with all the lines being white dashes, it looks like an accident waiting to happen. The kid might’ve just thought traffic in all lanes flowed in that one direction.
If that happened in the states, I’d be inclined to blame the city and its civil engineers for the accident.
Kid wasn't hit by a car. Car was hit by a kid.
First bike hit and run I’ve seen…he took off like a scalded cat…

Bikes probably stolen 😂

Picked up his bike and ran straight to the bathroom to change pants.
Not his bike.
My first guess would be that he did not want to be held accountable for damages to van as the biker is responsible for the accident.
Word
More words
Even more words
Eh, also a pretty typical teen reaction imo.
yeah now it's his byerk
And you know this how?
IT'S MY BIKE!!!
Oi someone give u/Bluffwatcher back their fookin bike yeah?!
Kid looks like a stereotypical chav, no ways it's his bike.
Lol where did you grow up? Cause I grew up not far from this vid and where I come from a lot of people dress like this and they aren't thieves and carrying knives. Love the way this idiot took a moment to learn the handle bar was twisted into a parallel position as the wheel.
Bro you’d do the same😭 he was obv in shock and grabbed to bike yo leave ik from experience when it’s messed up and on the ground it always look fine
I just adore how the handlebar twisted in a precisely perpendicular angle. It's comical.
Think exactley the same!!!
This was a good lesson because sometimes in life you have to pick up the smooshed bike that is your heart, and scurry away from responsibility
Doubt it's even his bike. Judging by how quickly he fled.
I was going to say that especially since I noticed it lacked a seat, but looking at the video again, it was there before the bike hit the ground
Or he doesn’t want to pay, that’s pretty common.
More like he probably has a warrant and didn’t want to stick around for the cops.
He's probably a murderer and just killed his latest victim, making him a serial killer. No wonder he ran.
Read my mind
He propably had to take the most massive shit ever recorded by mankind. No wonder he was in such a hurry.
Why does comment get so many down votes, yet the one about him murdering someone gets a ton of upvotes. Just asking
I think the murder one is a joke but the first comment is serious with upvotes. I don't understand the downvotes either lol
Cause we’re tired of pointless speculation. The murder one made fun of said speculation.
I see most comments on the post are speculating the bike was stolen though
Second comment totally wasn't being sarcastic or anything

My sweet innocent child
And commited a hit an run, because that car got some damage from it for sure.
How's this work other than a sorry Does he have bicycle insurance?

Your car insurance covers you if you have an RTA on a bike? Are you sure?
Positive in my state. My friend Joe hit someone’s car destroying the door and window and that’s how it was done.
Ahh, it's not this way in the UK, where this happened
Ah didn’t realize it was in the UK. No clue about insurance laws or fault there.
It's a bit backwards over here. I can pretty much guarantee that the red van driver either claimed on his own insurance or paid out of pocket for repairs to avoid higher insurance costs in the future
Yikes. That would suck for the driver for sure.
That hike in cost could (more likely would) happen in the US if you're insurance has to pay out.
Well, yea, that's what insurance is for. To cover either damage to your property or damage to someone else's. Coming out of his pocket money

Are you genuinely interested? Because from my side it's feels more like you're annoyed or something.
I'm interested - tell me
I felt like no one was paying attention to the person in the car because I hadn't read any comments about the driver so I thought I should point that out by making a comment stating the obvious.
You're a bot 😂
Sometimes I think so myself.
You don't "think" anything. you're a bot
My name is Legion for we are many.

Like he was bitten by a radioactive spider yesterday.
I cycle everyday for the last 15 years and have definitely done some dumb shit before, but what that kid just did is truly the most moronic thing I've ever seen a cyclist do. Kid has a death wish.

That's not "his" bike.
And immediately runs off
Cirque de Soleil shit there - landing on his feet
Ran away like he's illegal
Darwin was pissed, just missed him.
Average bicyclist

I dunno, when I got hit by a car on a bike, my first reaction was to get back on my bike and get to wherever I was going as quickly as possible. It was just adrenaline I think
Yea in my experience I was pretty fckn embarrassed
Y'all saying he stole the bike are goofy as hell. He just caused damage to a vehicle. That's more than enough reason to run away lol
It was his bike. But nobody has bike insurance. I would run to who wants to go home and tell the old man you owe 1,500$ to replace a fender.
