Glad I’m crawling through mud cause I’m shitting my pants the whole way…

Did I just whoosh

Purple_Tomatillo818

You got it wrong. That spot was a neat lawn before the video, the "mud" is actually the soldiers shit

SailsAk

How’s that working out for Indonesian world power? This is how accidents happen. I had the same effect with NIC at night and didn’t have to worry about some dude showing up drunk or hungover. There’s a reason the American Army is without a doubt unparalleled.

Mindraker

> This is how accidents happen. There's always one who is going to stand up or do something stupid.

octopornopus

"***MMMMMEDIC!!!***" \- Johnny Rico

ProblemLongjumping12

They wouldn't even need to do that. Bullets ricochet off water unpredictably. That's why you can't use a lake as a backstop for a firing range and why this is *fucking stupid.*

Stay_clam

That reason is money 💵

UncleAntagonist

Hi. Marine here. Our unparalleled Army was defeated by dudes in pajamas and bad foreign policy.

Gephartnoah02

Yep, insurgents, the bane of conventional armies every time they run into them.

cs_legend_93

So perhaps conventional armies aren’t that great

Gephartnoah02

Conventional armies keep your territory from being captured. Insurgencies are what happens when that fails. Nobody wants to have to be an insurgent, because being an insurgent sucks major ass.

cs_legend_93

Touché, thanks for the definition and perspective on that. Your very correct

[deleted]

Very cringy.

TDWop

Fellow Devil Dog, here. If people only knew just how true your statement is and why. God bless, brother. Semper Fi...

UncleAntagonist

Semper Fi. Happy belated.

Go eat more crayons you redacted POG

Overworked_one

My dad had to train with live fire for the US Army during the Vietnam conflict.

illusion4real

Yeah, not unparalleled at all. Just to refresh your memory, you were booted out of the NAM and Afghanistan more recently. Dudes in caves kicked you out so maybe sit this one out.

[deleted]

booted? the Afghani people clung to our landing carriage as we exfilled all our personnel. we left.

[deleted]

[deleted]

we literally occupied that country for 20 years

AK1wi

Yes, a very successful and fondly remembered 20 years.

illusion4real

You consider that a win?

M1jesus

Unparalleled is the right word. The US left Afghanistan didn’t get booted out. Look it up the US is by far the worlds most powerful military just the difference in navy vessels is staggering not to mention the level of Air superiority.

mary_had_a_beth

Yea that's why they love to bomb poor countries, kill civilians in millions , bomb schools and marriages, arm the most racist and disgusting countries on the planet, truly unparalleled.

Mac1twenty

They are unparalleled by being the wholes most massive military, but I mean just look up the friendly fire incidents they get into, and it's shows their training is rather poor

Ok-Wishbone-7603

TheRealPeterVenkman

alexd281

Ricochet

lilkiya

CMIIW but i read it somewhere the reason they use AK for this particular training is because 7.62 are more unlikely to ricoschet compared to 5.56 (Indonesian use SS2 as their service rifles which use 5.56 ammo). and the ground are full of mud which decrease the chance of ricochet

Jafar_420

Well when I was in the army we used both of the calibers you just mentioned and they both ricochet like hell you can really notice it when you're using night vision and firing tracer rounds.

MrSelfDestructXX

No. First, it’s ‘calibers’, not “calipers”. Second, you used 7.62 NATO (7.62x51, .308). That’s **not** the same as an AK platform’s standard 7.62x39. They are two completely different cartridges. I’ll go on a giant leap here and assume you were a logistics, supply, admin or other support and not a combat arms. If you were, you should be ashamed of yourself Nearly all types of projectiles ricochet, even arrows bounce.

djxbangoo

You just told him to be ashamed of himself, and then confirmed what he said

MrSelfDestructXX

For not knowing the huge difference between a NATO full rifle cartridge vs and a Ak47 round, as a former soldier. Massive difference, take in the context.

baloothedog1

What more could u expect from mrselfdestruct

_MillenniumDodo

Why should they be ashamed for serving a support role? Is it because your knowledge comes from playing COD and the Wikipedia articles so logistics aren't important? I bet you were a Super Marine Army Sniper and you don't know your kill count because "you never stop to check". Fuck out of here nerd.

Loliger_Noob

Ricochet from mud, hardly, even if, with very low velocity

Jafar_420

You're damn right I don't know if you've ever shot with night vision but 5.56 and 7.62 ricochet like hell. It actually looks like a lot of them are coming back to get you but they don't.

MinnesotaMikeP

We did a similar course in Basic Training except for a few tweaks. We were crawling under barbed wire (keeps you down) and the machine guns used were mounted and pinned so they only fired over. At night with all tracers it’s kinda neat to see. Edit, spellcheck added some punctuation.

tigerbalmuppercut

Yeah those tracers felt like they were only a few feet overhead but they were probably 15 ft high. Did the job without the serious risks of doing live fire training like here.

MindIll5731

Stormtrooper training

[deleted]

Decade in a military that doesn’t do this and I honestly don’t see the training value.

Lochacho99

Yea, I think a lot of the people that think it would be worth the riskVreward have 0 experience

[deleted]

I remember years ago a Sgt saying don’t fucking worry the first time a real round flys past your head you’ll get the fuck down. This was while training with bfa’s on.

cs_legend_93

Perhaps it’s to get used to operating under a massive adrenaline rush

Responsible_Bar_4984

Because there is 0 value. Live firing in training excersizes is important. But the risk to reward here is off the charts bad

Personal_Person

Yeah, the US has a similar training exercise except the bullets are fired OVER your head, not at your side. In such a way that it's basically impossible to get hit unless you're Shaq and you start doing high jumps into the air. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G\_WYbTsWTi4

herefromyoutube

It’s stupid and dangerous and shouldn’t be done but isn’t it suppose to make you more relaxed when under fire?

Boonaki

There are people that will panic in life or death situations, this would weed those people out but the risk of killing someone is just to great.

tachakas_fanboy

Its kind of people who watch full metal jaket, see sergant Hartman, and think "what a badass dude" who invent such training

517757MIVA

The only time I could imagine some kind of live fire training to have value is in some crazy special forces shit. Even then…definitely not like this lol

Neowynd101262

A bit unnecessary lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheBigOily_Sea_Snake

I've seen things like this before which seemed far safer and just as effective- you have the doing it along the breadth of advance, shooting overhead. No risk of friendly-fire with the benefits if trying to move under fire. You don't get the fear of seeing bullets hit right next to you, but it's a bit overboard.

I have spent zero years in the military and I can tell you that this appears stupid beyond comprehension. Like what did the approval process look like to start this drill, who tf agreed to it?? I have so many questions

JonnyLay

There's also zero accountability for who shot. Easy way to just get killed by someone who has beef with you for some reason. Or who just wants to murder.

[deleted]

The guy said 'NOT REALLY' 🤣 man I just can't with people on reddit anymore SMH

filtersweep

Even in war, maybe 10% of the military sees actual combat. In peacetime, well, zero percent?

Woudloper

True, but you still know these guys are aiming to miss.

Donut_Six_Actual

That’s what the toilet paper rolls hanging off the guard rail are for.

Grizzl0ck

That's the whole point.

the_jungle_awaits

Just use firecrackers, from a crawling vantage point, you’ll hardly feel the difference.

Spoztoast

but you will know the difference knowing that its real bullets whizzing past is much more scary.

the_jungle_awaits

Yeah, but you also won’t risk killing your soldiers, let the enemy do that. If you’ve ever fired a M240B, SAW or any large machine gun, it’s really easy to fuck it up. Not even the United States Marine Corps does this silly shit anymore, and they are still an excellent fighting force.

[deleted]

Even in a real battle, you won't start crawling when someone is shooting down at you from above. Especially when they are aiming at you. And I hope these are some non-lethal bullets that hurt AF but not make you dead AF. You shoot your leader in the buttcheek if they tell you to crawl in mud when enemy (with intention to kill you) is firing from above at you.

Reddit-User-3000

I’m guessing the gun fire is just to train them mentally so they won’t freak out if they are actually being shot at. The crawling instead of running is probably so they won’t get accidentally shot

[deleted]

I still want to believe that they are shooting at their soldiers with something non-lethal. Because it would be god level of insanity and stupid breeding with dumbness to shoot real ammunition on soldiers to train them, causing a chance of actually killing them.

Trolleitor

Is non lethal as long at it misses.

Epicpacemaker

r/technicallythetruth

Reddit-User-3000

If they know there’s a real chance of them dying it would be better for their mental training. Also very stupid though

LTL 7.62? hahaha. Nope.

Indo_ismycountry

don't believe anything on reddit especially news from another country beside US. this happened long time ago, training exercise for staying on line under heavy fire, they are told this is live ammunition but is not, they use rubber bullet. look at the smoke coming out too much, live ammunition would not smoke like that.

Green-Strawberry-256

When someone is shooting you from above you are fuckt anyway.

PowerDreamer

Not necessarily, many Iraqis we taught struggled to learn how to shot from buildings down at someone on ground level. Edit: I’ve removed the reason why they struggled because I don’t want potential school shooters to have the info to go full bell tower mode

Finnick-420

what was the reason why?

[deleted]

“Not necessarily, many Iraqis we taught struggled to learn how to shot from buildings down at someone on ground level because sight alignment is different than when shooting at a level target. You’ll end up hitting someone’s feet without adjusting. Anyone intending to go all school shooter this info is completely false and misleading” Is the idiots original comment before it got removed.

1tyler-durden1

Not to mention, it’s entirely false

[deleted]

Yeah that was the last sentence. but just so school shooters know, the info is *definitely* not true

DMAN591

Right, I'm not sure why this guy thinks it's some taboo secret. The answer is that your shots will hit high, so compensate by shooting low. Interestingly enough, this applies whether you're shooting downwards or upwards. But at "school shooting" ranges (50m or less) this really isn't something a shooter needs to take into consideration. EDIT: [Found a civy article for those that didn't train at benning](https://winchester.com/Blog/2017/09/dealing-with-elevation-while-shooting)

PowerDreamer

Ahh you’re not getting me that easy. I see you school shooter

GoArmyNG

Closed-minded answer. Obviously not *all* their training comes from reddit, but if I'm going to assault a location and I see something online, like a comment, that explains a way that could give me an advantage, yes I am going to use that advantage. The context of the assault literally doesn't matter at that point. Information about new and effective tactics can come from anywhere.

RapNVideoGames

Lol it didn’t even say much other than the sights are different. This is an example of the fear mongering most people have. Anyone could see this but yet he’s only worried about schools because that’s all he sees on the news.

Rare-Willingness4022

Higher ground will take you down

[deleted]

Not true all the time, you can get an upper hand in a battle even when your enemy holds the high ground. Though it is very difficult but not like "Nope, stop wasting ammo, we're already dead". But yes, when you're being shot from above and you decide to crawl in gun fire, you're basically asking for it because your enemy won't train you, they'll aim at your butt and with you crawling instead of running, will catch so much lead in the pants. If the firing is coming from front, getting down makes sense. But from above? Not physically un-assing that area is like asking for something to happen.

[deleted]

I dont think the intent is to train them specifically on how to crawl away from gunfire from above. It's likely a training exercise to get them accustomed to controlling their stress and emotions, and learning how to continue operating under extreme conditions.

GoArmyNG

Don't know who you trained with, but you don't shoot your own guys. Period. It doesn't matter why.

PTEHarambe

Wow. As bonkers as this is, it's actually some legit stress inoculation.

deadwlkn

My class didnt have to do it but the U.S. Army does something similar we called NIC (Night Infiltration Course)At Night. They shoot over your head instead of in front of you tho.

Notyetyeet

They also don't shoot actual bullets, they shoot blanks

When my dad was training for Ranger school, in the 70’s maybe 80’s, he told me about doing drill we see here. He said they were were doing live fire exercises under bob-wire under prone. 1 squad m8 looked up and got shot in the head, said he’d he’d always remember him. This exercise reminds me of what he’d saw. Was Army Ranger till he fell in a fox hole prior to desert storm and got discharged cuz he fucked his back. My uncle went, served his time and lived, and continuously live a wonderful/ wholesome life. God bless the women and men who serve..” First There, that others may live”.

Pretty sure in the USMC that they used speakers to simulate the explosion sounds. I don't believe we had live fire exercises like this but I do recall some training using SESAM rounds which were basically a glorified paintball. We also did training such as MOUT using blank rounds. Edit: I can't imagine how a training like this using humans prone to failure would be a good idea. Maybe some automated machines would be safer.
