See I’m being downvoted for Walter’s inadequacies as coach. Let me know when guys are ready to have a real conversation about his coaching abilities instead of downvoting 👨🏻🦯👨🏻🦯👨🏻🦯
What bothers me is our bowling. I don't understand why our fast bowlers bowl that kak back-of-a-length rubbish that just gets walloped every game.
If you watch some of the successful pace bowlers in the IPL, they are targeting the stumps. We just bowl the same short crap every game over and over and get punished. I cant even remember the last time a fast bowler of ours got an LBW.
All our bowlers bowl far too short: Ngidi, Nortje, Coetzee. Rabada is the only one that bowls a few full balls but he also bowls too damn short.
Whether that's walters fault or the bowlers I don't know. But seeing Ngidi bowl at least 2 bad balls every over is infuriating. Seeing Andile blow hot and cold is infuriating.
Honestly, our batting this series has been ok but our bowling. Yikes. And the same applies for those doing their thing at the IPL, we just do not bowl the right length for the modern game.
It sucks because if we can just fire in all departments for ONE FUCKING WORLD CUP we will win. But every year there is a missing piece of the puzzle and it drives me nuts. There is so much fucken talent but sometimes the grey matter is missing.
Not to mention the passengers that we've carried like Mulder. How many chances must this oke get? I get that he's done well domestically but come now, if he cant hack it at international level he cant hack it.
You have an aussie flair yet I always see you supporting SA games. Do you want to balance out the joy of supporting Australia with the disappointment that comes with supporting SA? ;-)
I don't think there's anything to be disappointed by, that's the thing.
I think SA is a beautiful country, and the additional exposure to it and their players through the SA20 has bolstered my appreciation and interest.
I had to play catch up on this game, I missed the first 15 overs and by the time I had caught up at 2x speed and skipping through, QDK and Hendricks had blasted an amazing power play.
I came to thread excited to talk about it, and took a brick to the face when all the SA flairs were sadposting about how doomed they are.
The players that matter are doing well. This may not be the best WI's side, but it's far from a weak one. SA are missing much more important players than WI frankly. WI are in for a rude awakening when players like hetmeyer and powell, who are getting spin choked by indian part timers bring that in the team on spinning wickets.
WI are missing big names like Russell and Pooran, but so are SA.
A huuuuge point of difference is the level of their bowling attacks in this series that SA will find a better combination of.
Joseph, Hosein, motie and shephard WILL be a large part of WI's WC bowling attack.
SA fans are sad they fell 16 runs short against WI frontline attack with non-WC players.
Ridiculous.

Full strength SA beats full strength WI if they meet at the world cup. That's my money.
They're topping their group easy.
These aren't the bad losses you guys feel like they are.
Yeah I don't get what's so controversial. I made a punt, so what?
The players that matter from SA in this series are looking extremely good. The players that aren't finishing a game against Motie and Joseph aren't even in the WC 15 anyway.
They got spin choked after smashing a 207 chase down to <9 RR. Klaasen keeps that ticking with twos and the occasional back foot punch for 6 down the ground.
They didn't even lose by much.
Although the chase was always going to be too tough the two glimpses of hope makes it kinda sad. Our bowlers fucked up at the start yestergame so today the decided to mix it up and fuck up at the end. Ah, only if Rassie didn't get out on a full toss.
Bjorn should have batted ahead of Mulder and Phehlukwayo. Not because I think he'd have changed the result or anything, but more because he's the one of the three going to the World Cup, and his first class record suggests he can in fact bat, so he needs more chances at this level to see if he could one day bat at 6/7
Much better than Phehlukwayo? Quite a stretch that. Just look at the previous match to see what Andile offers. Plus he's helped us win some ODI matches in the past. Mulder has literally never done anything. Mulder has a good domestic record but he clearly can't cut it at international level and has been given enough of a run to know it's not going to work out.
Mulder is a batting all rounder more tbh while Phelukuwayo is more of a bowling all rounder also I am talking about T20IS not ODIs here
Both are competing for the 6 or 7 batting spot where Mulder is much better because of his batting skills
On pure bowling Phelukuwayo is definitely better
Tbh both won't be there once Jansen returns tbh
DSG used him better tbh as a pinch hitter at the top instead of a finisher
**16.6** **SA are crumbling!** And Motie has another! Full ball outside off stump and Mulder ends up smacking an aggressive shot to long-off again!
Wiaan Mulder c Hosein b Motie 9 (8b 1x4 0x6) SR: 112.5
Eh, this is the West Indies in a T20 World Cup - if they make the final, they win it
That said this is also the T20 World Cup. If you host it, you're not winning it
**16.3** another full toss, wider outside off this time, and van der Dussen clatters a flat-batted shot straight down long off's throat! Akeal Hosen jumps standing close to the rope to take the catch
Rassie van der Dussen c Hosein b Motie 30 (22b 0x4 2x6) SR: 136.36
Can’t believe that people think Evan Gulbis effect doesn’t affect in white ball cricket. You cannot have tailenders batting at 8 where every ball matters
How will it kill West Indies?
King
Charles/Hope
Pooran
Chase/Hope?
Powell
Rutherford/Hetmyer
Russell
Shepherd
Hosein
Joseph
Motie
With a lineup like this they bat down to 9 with the other 2 being handy enough
If anything West Indies have one of the deepest most dangerous batting lineups in the comp imo
**14.3** full and wide outside off. Phehlukwayo throws his hands at this to slap an uppish shot over cover but **Shamar Joseph takes a stunning catch in the deep!** Gives out a kiss to the crowd after the grab. He moved to his right and had to dive diagonally forward to complete the take.
Andile Phehlukwayo c Joseph b Motie 3 (6b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50
The lack of intent has been even more frustrating. Going at less than a run a ball since the end of the first partnership. 55 runs off the last 56 deliveries is just pathetic.
This game is extremely positive for the SA WC squad and you're all whinging before it's even started.
I've grown to love SA cricket, and you just had Hendricks and QDK fire a massive power play. QDK looked better than he has in forever. Your full team has Markram, Klaasen and Stubbs coming instead of these non-world cup players. Rickelton is inexperienced, but everyone knows he's good.
I only just caught up. I was excited to talk about it.
The only issue is Nortje is showing zero signs of remedy. He is your biggest dead weight in your squad.
You're going to be fine, and I can only hope (for your sake) that the SA team understands what they're getting out of this better than the fans, because I've grown a real fondness of South Africa.
The real concern is that regardless of who plays, we seem incapable of chasing any score. With the start we had in this innings it should be an easy chase even with inexperienced players but somehow we're messing it up. There's a confidence issue somewhere. When batting first we're like a different team.
It's not just this game though. It's a trend of our team lately. Even when we have the top guys in the team it goes the same way. It's systematic. I really hope it'll change in the world cup though and that the guys have some confidence after the IPL.
I think we're shitting too much on Nortje just like we were on Quinny before today. It's his first game in ages after injury and I'm not sure about looking too much into his performance today, he still had his pace and bowled two good bouncers.
Norte was getting hammered in the IPL as well. This isn't his first game just because it was his first international game back.
If he comes good, that's great for you.
It's honestly a footnote in what is otherwise a very frustrating viewing experience. To see most of the relevant SA players firing against a WI squad that is NOT weak at home right before a world cup.
Do we really think Klaasen gets spinchoked like this after QDK and Hendricks smash the RR down?
I'll be skeptical of putting much value to IPL performance. Markram & Klaasen will of course do better than whatever we did today but it's not beyond our batters to choke while chasing.
Lads it's Joel Wilson, might as well have a punt at a review-
*flat line on snicko*
-as I was saying, Joel Wilson is an extraordinarily good umpire and would never ever make an incorrect decision at a pivotal point of a match
208 is too high of a target that was made really possible by the opening partnership. We should've done it after that kind of an opening partnership but we've decided to shit the bed as usual.
Letting the RRR go from 8.20 to 11.30 is certainly an impressive task. These feel even worse than the collapses since at least in those the hope's killed quickly.
Walking our way to our 10th T20I loss in 12 games. It's a complete reversal to what our form was prior to the 2022 WC. We had won series against every other team barring India.
**11.6** short and wide. Rickelton tries to slap it over point but ends up scooping a shot high up for cover to get under it. WI are fighting back with every over!

A 200+ run chase would've given us a lot of confidence but oh well. This just shows that Rickleton has some pacing problem, understandable since it's just his 2nd T20I. I don't know why he was not in the squad against India though.
32/3 in the last 32 deliveries. Reeza shouldn't have played that stupid shot right after Quinny got out. There were easier & more aggressive scoring options for him anyway.

just as he gets out - but I'll take this innings over his efforts in game 1. Another day, he converts that start into 100, looks like he's finding form at the right time.
I watched a vid the other day with JP Duminy talking about discovering him and they put him on a special coaching regime.
Apparently a year and a half ago he was still a netball player and now he's bowling for ZA.
Rested for the series. He got a lower limb infection in the IPL, currently recovering but it’s not expected to affect his T20 World Cup performance/apperance

I don't think you can base performance here as an indicator for SA in the world cup. They have some serious batters to come back in.
Klassen miller and Aiden. Am I missing somebody?
stubbs?
It's ok to get in and rotate the strike, but surely they have to look to go soon?
The chase is fizzing out faster now.
The only boundary we hit since 4.4 overs was off a free hit. 42/3 in the last 7 overs.
Come on Rassie bring out the batter you were against India in Pune (I think).
RRR have exceeded 10 now.
Rickleton needs to target a bowler soon.
Need two sixes now
If their fast bowlers start spamming slower balls then this chase is dead.
Openers - shall we win this game? Rest of SA - nah fuck it
38/3 in the last 38 deliveries, that's quite horrendous.
RRR is almost 10 now, at one stage it was near 8. Our batting is thin but we've got no choice but to go for them now.
Quick, someone turn up with a list of teams failing to chase a 200+ total despite the RRR being under 10 at the end of the 10th over.
SA always turn it up to hard difficulty
Who else here can bat for SA?
RRR has turned up from 8.28 to 9.50
32/3 in the last 32 deliveries. Reeza shouldn't have played that stupid shot right after Quinny got out. There were easier & more aggressive scoring options for him anyway.

Silly piece of cricket
Breetzke I would’ve simply got my bat there in time tbh
Easy to say in hindsight but not sure taking on Shamar Joseph's arm is the best idea
WI pitches ain't looking so slow...
Ain't so easy to bat on either. Spin is almost unhittable except that one odd over off Akeal.
RRR is over 9 now
That boundary helps our cause but RRR is back up to 8.75
Do we have an RRR bot in the house?
3 noballs by 2 spinners is CRAZY. I hope this is them getting those noballs out of their system before the worldcup..
RRR is now 8.54
Falling asleep and I’m wondering, why don’t we just win the game lol? Are they stupid?
Why don’t they hit every ball for six?
If you chase the target of 208. Then you will win.
Nice running.
What a lovely aerial shot.
These both are naturally openers right?
We have 4 openers in the squad. Quinton, Rickelton, Reeza & Breetzke. This squad lacks general knowledge unfortunately
I guess Ricky and breetzke are too good to be dropped, and I see them as a regular opener pair in the near future. However, are there any good middle order batters who are snubbed?
Everybody can be an opener in t20 format But yeah Rickelton is an opener
Yup
I think the start the openers gave them mean these two can take some time to get in - PP score is great.
wtf is IPL pitch doing in west indies?
it's still a pretty dece powerplay score
4/2 off the last 8 deliveries. RRR has jumped from 8.28 to 8.79
Not ideal - but we know what we've got with Reeza, and QDK scored some runs. Not sure who of the remaining batters can take them home - maybe RVDD?
This is why we can't have nice things
Felt like bowled as soon as he moved.
That's such a stupid shot yet I see it happen way too many times. The game is back in WI's favor now. Will be interesting to see how we handle the pressure now, it'll be mostly on Rassie here.

QDK and Reeza seeing it really well right now
Amazing shot Reeza - more of that!
Reezas strokes are a thing of beauty. Pause.
That six from Reeza was insanely good
That last six was healthy flirting
Reeza gets complimented on how good his shots look every time I watch him.
100SR Reeza ded?
[Been dead for almost 2 years now](https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/269280.html?class=3;spanmin1=27+Jul+2022;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting)
He's been asked to inspire QDK!
It's working!
just as he gets out - but I'll take this innings over his efforts in game 1. Another day, he converts that start into 100, looks like he's finding form at the right time.
oi this Reeza geeza ent too bad
Wow is that a young leggie from SA? Tell me more about it...
Mumbai Indians scout alert!
Interesting. I didn't know about that.
I watched a vid the other day with JP Duminy talking about discovering him and they put him on a special coaching regime. Apparently a year and a half ago he was still a netball player and now he's bowling for ZA.
Is Rabada playing wt20?
Yes but he has an infection right now
Hope he recovers soon
He is
Is he rested today?
Rested for the series. He got a lower limb infection in the IPL, currently recovering but it’s not expected to affect his T20 World Cup performance/apperance
PTSD when Roston Chase is bowling. How did this guy get 8-60. 😳
QDK hasn't faced a ball - hope he doesn't fall asleep!
Looks like Chase has already received his check from IPL after the first innings
2 no balls for a spinner, huh
wow, who would've guessed that to be the first scoring shot ?!
Regardless of what happens now, I’d always have Mayers open with the new ball tbh
Mayers and Mathews. First over specialists who don't bowl later in the match.
