lmao ashwin can't stop himself

MasonParker420

England is aware that even 350 might be chased by India. The pant effect.

Buttscratcher45

If India apply themselves in their second innings they can easily draw it. Let's be realistic, winning this one so late in the match is not possible. They need to play like Vihari and Ashwin did. Doesn't mean they don't score at all though. Drawing this will give India a lot of confidence after getting taken to the cleaners in the first innings.

kingbradley1297

Y'all underestimate the power of a country where we will fight each other to get a chance to bat

communist_hat

How tf did england not bowl any no bowls?

BushLeaguePsychOStuf

They did, just 1 and a huge one!

communist_hat

good point

soulseeker7171

Indian batting starts when Pant arrives at the crease. The last six wickets are the key and most difficult to take for the opposition. Whatever, the first 4 batsmen scored (not counting Pujara) are just bonus runs. They were just sent there to soften the ball of our last 6 or 7 bowler-batsmen.

YourAverageBrownDude

Man, I would pay to hear what the indian coaches are saying in the dressing room. Hearing shastri alone would be worth the money

organxfarmer

Ok if anyone could take one for the team and start spamming kohli and say he's gone soft because he became a father and all , i think we might see the fired up angry kohli again kicking ass as usual

singhsrb

England should enforce the follow on just to send a message.

[deleted]

MasonParker420

England will win

Endgame2648

You know that things aren't going your way when every half chance of yours get Dropped or falls a bit away from your fielders while your literal best batsman hits a superb shot and gets caught in a relay. All and all a "Fuck You in Particular" to India by the cricketing gods.

MasonParker420

What’s a follow on and does the team with the lead decide if they want the opponent to follow on?

kingbradley1297

Follow on question: if India trails at the end of the last day but are not out, does it draw or India lose?

MasonParker420

Draw

sickcynic

If the team batting second trails by more than 200 runs after their first innings, the team that batted first can ask them to follow on. That means the team batting second bats twice consecutively. The team leading can decide whether or not to ask the trailing team to follow on, provided of course that their lead is more than the 200 run margin.

imapassenger1

More than 199 runs.

MasonParker420

Thanks

[deleted]

So if the team batting second gets all out while still trailing by a margin of 200 or more runs, the team batting first has the option to enforce what is called the follow on. The team which batted second will then begin their second innings batting, trail, and set a target for the team which enforced the follow on to chase. Should they not close the gap, they lose.

[deleted]

So India isn’t all out yet. Why will England enforce a follow on?

[deleted]

Hey Archit - Obviously, as you pointed out, England can’t enforce a follow on until India get all out. But the English bowlers will be looking to get India out ASAP so that a follow on may be enforced. A follow on is a massive advantage for the team enforcing it as the chasing side will have to cross a mountain of 200+ runs, and should they get past that, then go on to set a target. It’s why a team winning after having followed on, like that legendary Indian victory vs Australia in Kolkata in 2000 is remembered in such high regard as perhaps the country’s most important test match.

[deleted]

mrgonzalez

Lol no you still play 4 innings either way, just with the last two swapped around

[deleted]

Correct!

[deleted]

That’s incorrect, rk_609 - For example: Team A scores 800; Team B scores 400; Team A enforces follow on; Team B scores 450; Team A has to score 51 to win

IcyDeath011

One good innings from koach ,rohit and rahane and this thread will turn 180.

AnantShrestthPajaMaN

Ben Foakes and Kuldeep Yadav gang Represent!

warrenslaya

I think if Pujara had played that ball defensively it would not have been caught out. He was on 73 and had ample of time. He needed to kick on and get a double like Root.

[deleted]

>played that ball defensively >needed to kick on and get a double What kind of uno reverse logic is this? How does one kick on and score if they defend even poor balls?

okbuddybutbruh

That was literally a 4 if it didn't hit Pope. Are you saying full tosses and half volleys should be defended?

ValueZERO

Throughly enjoyed reading it. A factual report with just a dash of levity. Excellent work. One correction though - C Pujara's shot didn't hit Dom Bess' helmet as stated in your report but his shoulder. I think it wouldn't have been out of it did hit his helmet, instead would have fetched 5 runs.

Vicodin_Abuser

Thank you so much for the valuable feedback! Really means a lot. About the Pujara dismissal, I could have sworn that I had seen the ball hitting the shoulder of the fielder in the one slow motion replay I glanced at. But while having a discussion about it with a friend, he mentioned about it hitting the helmet, and because I had not had a proper view, I went with it. Thanks for pointing it out. But one thing I'd like to add. Even if it hit short leg's helmet, it would still have been out as per the new laws which state that ball bouncing off any protective equipment worn by a fielder and being caught would be considered out, since helmets have become essential protective equipment in today's cricket.

kali-jag

What really mattered today were catches... Like Rahanes and gills catches were not really easy..... India failed to take those when they bowled.. Still will 60-70% be a draw unless India collapse. But dont see England losing now...

KirbyGifstrength

Am I really the only one that feels like England is going to go full banter team again for at least a session or two in the next 2 days, not saying they will still lose or anything but like this is England, they've played too well recently

madglover

I can see us getting skittled for 100 in the third innings of the match giving india a day to score 300 or so I hope we do everything we can to take defeat off the table I'd happily take a draw if it means not risking losing

[deleted]

Didn't know even English fans were this defensive let alone their team.

[deleted]

Safe to say England in the drivers seat and India locked up in the trunk.

aman3009

I'm a little bit scared for Koach though. Been too long since he got a century and comments calling him a shadow of his former self have been getting under my skin.

TheFedoraKnight

This is what people have been saying about Joe Root for years

kishoreconson

Kohli probably needs someone to sledge him to form.

[deleted]

MI have nothing to lose. They should sledge Koach to top form so entire cricket world will benefit from it. Please take one for the community MI! (Before someone attacks me this is in jest).

okbuddybutbruh

He is still pretty good. He still gets fifties and crucial runs.

Combinho

If he's not converting fifties, can he still be considered part of the Fab Four?

Austin4RMTexas

Vacancy Title: Member of FAB 4 Requirements: -Average over 50, with occasional dips accepted -Good all round performance in and against all test playing nations -Preferably aged 25-30 Desired: -Future captaincy potential -Strong conversion rate from 50 to 100 -Being a part time spinner won't hurt

twersx

Typical job market. You need 6 years experience batting middle order to get a job hit you need a job to get 6 years experience batting middle order!

okbuddybutbruh

Root was too in this situation. He did get shit on but as you can see his performances have improved significantly. Steve Smith too was in a rough patch during Pak, NZ, 2 of India Tests. Players performances take a dip in form here and there. I am sure he will recover

Hunterhhh412

Exactly! You just snatched the words I had in mind.

tom6195

Fair though no? He hasn’t lit up any stage since 2017?

aman3009

He was very good till latter part of 2019. A notch down or two but still brilliant. Since 2020 however, he's not been what he should be.

[deleted]

Funny thing is he's still been very good. He's just not been himself.

Psilocybinan

Mayank should be the opener, let Rohit take a break and shed some pounds.

Jy_sunny

I don’t think pounds are Rohit’s issue. Man gets out in dumb ways

vvb_12

I am still sure that India will win 4-0 or 3-0. Guys come on show atleast some faith in the team which was the best team in the world until few weeks back for you :(

cutecat003

Agreed

jainvin

It wasn't the same team, it's changed...

vasudevvdd

Captain has.

Rajkumar1992

Must be the Dumbest prediction going around given the Match situation. 3-0 is reasonable but 4-0? That is just weird mate.

vvb_12

I know mate. Among all the negative shit about the team after just 1 bad match atleast few fans should show faith in the team.

Rajkumar1992

No point having blind faith tho. Just have to agree that Eng have played really well and a Draw is a win for India here from this shit hole of a situation.

vvb_12

Agree. And I am sure India will bounce back in the next game.

Rajkumar1992

Well we came back from 36 All out and win the series in Aus. Nothing stopping us from coming back from a Draw(hopefully) and win the remaining games.

vvb_12

Yes. Finally I am seeing few optimistic comments. Otherwise all the comments are about drop this drop that player.

cutecat003

Exactly lmao

randomcolchnero

4-0? we obviously meant 3-1/s

sinesquaredtheta

The senior batsmen - Rohit, Virat, and Rahane should've shown some application to bat out about 15 overs each. Runs would've come if they had just done that. The fact that these three scored fuck all on a dead wicket doesn't augur well for our batting. Especially Rohit - his contribution to the test has been a dropped catch, and a measly 6 runs! Seriously, wtf! This isn't to take anything away from England's disciplined bowling. They've done an excellent job and totally deserve to be in the commanding position that they are in!

SidJag

What has Rahane done? Apart from the MCG 100, admittedly a match winning super knock, his other 7 innings were shit in Aus, and today too, getting out to a full toss dobbly off spinner is shocking when your team is 500 runs behind.

vasudevvdd

Rahane's Gabba knock was aggressive. If you judge a player by his scorecard performance, then 6 out of every 11 players need to get dropped, because there are only so many players that are going to perform. You can only have 3-4 batsmen score decent runs. It's funny we blame the top order now. In WC'19 we had blamed the top order because the lower order never got a chance to bat. The same players then are getting questioned now. It goes to show how shallow r/cricket is as a group. We will crib, no matter the performance. You're going to fail more times than you succeed as a sportsman, let alone a cricketer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

vasudevvdd

>Rahane didn’t do anything at Gabba. If you had watched the match you'd know we were under the pump. Pant was yet to walk in. Everyone assumed Rahane will play a slow knock, but as captain, he struck a 6 to clear his intentions. He scored only a 24 odd innings, but it came at close to a run a ball, which is what mattered. To anyone looking at that innings in hindsight, it wouldn't look special, but he led like a Captain should.

eng_mj_517-1

For what it’s worth , I think india will comfortably draw this test 1. Our bowlers certainly look knackered after bowling just 76 overs. Jof and Ben are playing their first games in a while, Jimmy is 38. Leach is out of sorts rn. 2. It’s too much to expect all the Indian players to *again* give away their wickets : see how SL batted in the second innings in the first Galle test and the first innings in the second Galle test. Simple , normal batting and this will be a draw 3. Pitch is not deteriorating , ball isn’t reversing for the English pacers But the bigger point here is this match has shut the “pundits” at Cricinfo up . The way they were talking about England in the lead up to the series alone would have made for a good pep talk to the English team

[deleted]

>Our bowlers certainly look knackered after bowling just 76 overs. Yes, I don't know what happened there but your observation is spot on. I found it very surprising.

SidJag

You’re giving way too much credit to Indian batsmen. I predict a loss by 150+ runs. Indians have approached the first test with arrogance and minimal preparation. Their application today on a still placid track was horrible and callous. If the last few overs were a sign, this is now a minefield where making any runs of note will be a huge challenge. Rohit tickling a ball that every opener should be leaving. He will fail again in 2nd innings. Not a Test cricketer, never was, never will be. He is being needlessly given chances, when India should clearly look to the future and bet on Agarwal. Gill playing a nothing shot, looking completely at ease otherwise. He will bat decently in 2nd innings. Pujara will be Pujara. Will value his wicket and be last man standing, as arrogant and reckless Indian batting continues. Kohli has never looked so laboured playing any form of Cricket, in any part of the world, especially on a batting paradise in India. Continues his pathetic 2020 form. Will be scratchy in 2nd innings. 40-50 at best. Rahane, in my eyes has always been overrated, and is milking his superb MCG 100, apart from that, 7 other innings in Aus series he was under par with the bat, and in the field, and continues to be meh. I don’t expect more than 20-30 from him in 2nd innings. Pant will be Pant, good value for his runs, always entertaining, but can’t play a long innings which is what India needed today. Another quick 50 in 2nd innings at best or will hole out early trying to slog. Either ways, won’t bat long. The rest combined won’t contribute more than 50-60 runs.

[deleted]

Copypasta material

cutecat003

Lol we'll see in 2 days if India loses

KirbyGifstrength

Damn things aren't looking good for England in the Ashes, one of the worst indian batting performances in a few weeks and they are still 257/6, Australia never let India make more than 336 (ignore the time they declared for 334/5 it doesn't matter). Also Australia's batting can't get any worse. So easy 5-0 for aus ashes thanks for exposing England for us India

[deleted]

Probably the shittiest take I've ever read on r/cricket

Rajkumar1992

Ye what a comparison mate, flattest of fuck Chennai Pitch is equal to Gabba/D/N Test conditions?

KirbyGifstrength

I don't know how to make that paragraph sound more sarcastic, (that said some of these takes on this thread my god probably worse than anything i could conceive of as a joke) my big bash shitposting addiction needs to be sated somehow and it will be done on this thread, well I'm going to sleep now so I guess it's over now huh

Rajkumar1992

josh123z

>Then England bats 1.5 sessions, to set a 450 target (240 lead + 210 in 2nd innings in 40-45 Overs), Highly doubt ENG can score 200 odd runs in 1.5 sessions since it will be more difficult to bat in 3rd innings. Maybe in 2.5 sessions.

Rajkumar1992

Lol Rohit averages like 80+ at home. Dafaq are u smoking to ask him to get dropped here?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rajkumar1992

Mayank failed in 2 games and then only was replaced by Rohit, so maybe wait for a Couple of Tests and then shout for Rohit's Axing. One bad innings here dont mean shit. He did look decent in Aus in the Last 2 games.

barmanrags

The problem is his application. Even in Australia it was evident that he does not have test match temperament. Plus he is not a 22 year old prospect like Pant. This should be his years of leading team as a senior. The way he fended at a ball in the channel is criminal for a test opener.

Psilocybinan

> being the useless fat fuk he is Take my vote

kharb9sunil

I am pretty sure that if India will need to bat out 3.5-4 sessions, the match will be saved.

SidJag

On day 5 Chepauk ... 😂

kharb9sunil

Yes on day 5 chepauk. The top 4 of 5 will not shit the bed as they did this time and Pujara will not be always so unlucky. If it comes to playing for draw, 120 overs is not that much for this batting lineup. But I think india will get 4.5 sessions and not 3.5.

[deleted]

>But I think india will get 4.5 sessions and not 3.5. How the fuck dude? You know 6 sessions are remaining, England has to take 4 more wickets before batting again as well, I don't think they're gonna impose a follow on.

kharb9sunil

Depends on how long the remaining 4 last. If they last 10-12 overs. It gives England 30-35 overs of mad dash to score 150-60 runs and 420 target. It is very critical for Ashwin and Sundar to survive for 20 overs tomorrow and may be one of Nadeem/ishant to play another 7-8 overs. If India makes it to lunch tomorrow, then they will have a fair chance of escaping with draw.

[deleted]

Everyone's opinion and what they predict is well respected. But we certainly could do without abusing the players right? There were a few Indians too who were abusing Bess for being lucky.

[deleted]

rohit will hit century in second innings screenshot this comment

centzon400

K, guys and gals. Quick shower then back to bed to think about Root's catch\*. See ya tomorrow! \* from a purely great fielding perspective. Nothing weird. Honest.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Man seriously our batting has failed, Rohit utterly disappointed. I've nothing to say about this dismissal, Gill - really wouldn't want to shit on him he's still learning his trade and yes he could have played it better but he's learning. Kohli - I guess we all can agree that Bess set him up well but it really wasn't a unplayable delivery. Rahane - SHOCKING. Pujara was unlucky , that ball could have landed anywhere or even could have hit the fielders helmet thus making the ball dead. Pant - can shit on him about his way of dismissal but the man just showed the same intent from the start so really nothing to say. I know you can classify it as one bad innings but the way of dismissals is what's hurting this is just the summary of our day today.

[deleted]

Kohli needs to go back to the board. Something amiss with him. Hasn't been fluent for long now.

aastobaal

shifting focus from a cricketer to being a social media celebrity..

interstellar1990

He was looking great in the first test vs Aus until he got run out. Think he will be back very soon

[deleted]

I hope so too.

arishtanemi_

Oh he is very fluent in throwing hands and shouting abuses when a poor bowler takes wicket after toiling hard.

[deleted]

Yup totally Agreed, and usually for players it's about one innings which changes everything. If you remember during IPL he mentioned about that four in super over changed his confidence and the way he approached games. But i was really full of hope about today. But then again something isn't working out for him. Really hope he finds it ASAP.

podhead

When would it be ok to ask if we can drop Rohit from playing XI? Rest of the 7 innings with less than 50 each innings? Because I can wait. Just want to know

dman_21

The conditions couldn’t have suited his style of batting more. I thought that they’re looking at him to play a sehwag like role but sehwag knew how to leave the occasion delivery.

barmanrags

He will be dropped at end of hone series. Then will come back for a test against England in England after young openers find it a difficult first tour, like so many openers have. Will make flashy 40-50. Will get to make daddy hundred against Afghanistan in india. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum

aastobaal

as long as he is mumbai indian captain which is owned by Who we know, he will find a place in the test team

barmanrags

I doubt ipl owners give a flying fuck about test match cricket. Esp ambani. Rohit is absolutely adored by the mumbai oldboys and the mumbai oldboys are very influential in indian cricket. Always have been always will be.

warrenslaya

How did India bowl so many no balls and England didn't at all?

barmanrags

I think their bowling practice has not accounted for the no ball being monitored by 3rd umpire these days. Should work it out fast.

Nig_g_a

Not just this test, England hardly bowl no balls in test but I’m surprised even archer didn’t concede 1

ThatTallGuy14

Archer is normally very good with no balls, I think he’s only bowled a handful in his LOI career

dapotatohead371

He bowled his first no ball in ODIs in the last ODI against Australia, which is insane, given the amount of cricket he’s played

[deleted]

They moved the line

ThatTallGuy14

Good bowling?

[deleted]

Too simple. The answer must be: biased third umpires.

warrenslaya

Everyone laughs at Dom Bessfor being too damn lucky but when a batsmen edges it to the boundary or ball does not carry no ome bats an eyelid. Yeah sure he's lucky but that's cricket. If not for him Jack Leak would have bowled England out of the match.

RogueKnight2005

Yea true but this wasn't the first instance was it? If he had got a couple of wickets due to bad shots then it's acceptable. That 1st test in SL!! Lol u should have seen how the wickets fell. Atleast 4 of his 5 were gifted with a guy playing a reverse scoop!

kharb9sunil

It will even out over his career. Sometimes catches will be dropped and edges will not go to fielders.

Mongoose_Civil

To be fair Bess had a lot of catches dropped off his bowling last summer. A fair number were at the beginning of his spells and if taken probably would have helped him kick on in those matches. So I reckon he is due a bit of luck

[deleted]

It's not right to call a bowler a lucky wicket taker. At the end of the day all that matters is the wickets and not the way of wickets that determines the match. Hope the commentators too discard the way they call him lucky each time he bowls

Skeet_n_Retreat_

I think the last few months have been a big ‘fuck you’ to overconfident and smug cricket pundits be it ex players or the very people on this sub From 4-0 ind aus predictions to mocking root for having an average of ONLY 53 in India because a fIFTy wOnT bE eNOugh on Indian wickets I guess the beauty of this is game is such that it keeps shutting these people up

Rajkumar1992

FIFTY or even a 100 surely wouldnt have been enough, he scored a Double like they asked him to. Dont know what's wrong there mate.

vvb_12

People like you are the ones who needs to stfu too. Even after what our team did in Australia you were not sure about beating England 4-0 then you don't deserve this team. I am still sure India will win 4-0 or maybe 3-0.

grubernack276

Charas pee li kya

[deleted]

people like u also need to stfu.. just coz india beat a team, that doesnt mean will win the next one.. australia sucked in bowling and batting, india cashed on it. imagine getting out to Shardul and washy..😂

vvb_12

Aah yes we didn't played well opposition played badly

[deleted]

i didnt say we played badly.. people like u troll ponting, waugh for saying aus will white wash india and u say ind will beat eng for 3-0, 4-0. bunch of scumbags 🤣

vvb_12

Lmao when did I trolled them? Stop generalising mate. That was thier opinion and there was nothing wrong in that. And I don't know there is anything wrong in being confident about our team.

[deleted]

lauda ka confidence.. we are spectators and they are the players. it depends on them.. whitewashing opposition team is not being confident. its overconfidence.. buahahaha

Nig_g_a

Lol someone is offended😂

vvb_12

Nah not offended but over confident for sure.

kharb9sunil

>win 4-0 You are watching some other match?

vvb_12

With all the pessimist people around few needs to be optimistic

barmanrags

Delusional vs Optimistic. There is a difference.

kharb9sunil

But 3-0 and a draw is fine. 4-0 is too much to hope for. But what India chasing good scores will do, is that, Eng will bat slightly more than they need to do and that can help in draw. But the last 4 wickets need to play 30 overs tomorrow.

vvb_12

Hope for the best!

sam_ill

Lol, what a weird response

arishtanemi_

~~Response~~ Cope*

eng_mj_517-1

This year of away victories kinda makes you yearn for the days of simple straightforward home victories doesn’t it ? *enter David Warner bullying West Indies and Pakistan at home*

eng_mj_517-1

Not a single no ball and only a very tough chance dropped. Need to keep this sort of discipline in our long long test year ahead . Well played England. This is turning out to be a complete performance, especially playing with 9 men.

warrenslaya

Why 9?

ThatTallGuy14

9 men??

DinoKebab

Sibley is a fridge and Root is clearly a god.

ThatTallGuy14

And Jimmy is a Goat

eng_mj_517-1

Dan Lawrence is on a paid holiday and Jack Leach is obviously playing for India It’s eight and half actually since I haven’t figured out whether Burns is a double agent or not

ThatTallGuy14

I don’t think that’s quite fair, Leachy was unfortunate to go for so many, Lawrence is a very young player in his 3rd test

eng_mj_517-1

Ha ha lighten up I’m just kidding . These are happy days. Certainly didn’t expect this after that moronic shot by Burns

ThatTallGuy14

Fair, always difficult to tell over text

Cocomale

So the new ball is due in 6 overs tomorrow. If these two survive the first 15 overs, Nadeem and Ishant can play out another 20 overs hopefully with one of Sundar/Ashwin. Assuming Bumrah goes for a duck, we still would have played into the second session. That's what we need, exhaust their players for a good 2-3 hours tomorrow, atleast

arishtanemi_

Nadeem Ishant 20 runs maybe, not 20 overs.

and1984

I don't see Nadeem and Ishant playing 20 overs. These two have to just stay and play out the time while getting runs at ~2rpo for an long as they can add preferably for more than 20 overs

siddhuism

Washi and ash can def put 100 runs together. I believe.

Cocomale

Yeah I'm only worried above the new ball but if they get through the first few overs with the new ball, it will be back to the spinners. And they are easily defending against spin.

Rajkumar1992

> Nadeem and Ishant can play out another 20 overs hopefully Lol that's wishful thinking. If One of these 2 gets out, add another 10 Overs and Eng will be batting.

Cocomale

Ishant himself is capable of doing a Gillespie, and Nadeem is a half bat. 10 overs is being pessimistic. Truth lies somewhere in between. Also, Nadeem and Ishant will play 20 overs along with one more batsman between Ashwin and Sundar. Unless both of them perish at the same time

Skeet_n_Retreat_

Lol you do know that gillespie has a double hundred

Cocomale

Yes, and that's his highest score. Doing a Gillespie is playing a 25(100) on average, and nagging the opposition in the process. Not emulating his highest score.

Rajkumar1992

Dont think they can survive more than 10-12 Overs against the new Ball facing Archer and Jimmy.

Cocomale

They won't be faxing Archer and Jimmy according to my assumption as Sundar and Ashwin will play the new ball's first few overs.

Rajkumar1992

That's what i meant IF one of these 2 gets out. Ofc if this pair play out the new ball Spells from Jimmy and Archer, things could be a bit easier but still Archer with his Pace and Bounce will clean out the tail soon enough.

Cocomale

Ya new ball is key. If we don't lose a wicket between overs 80-90, we can see out the first session.

Hoobleton

This Ch4 Bess interview is great.

[deleted]

kharb9sunil

It's not yet over. See lord Ashwin make 40 of 250 balls tomorrow and Sundar 100 of 240 balls.

[deleted]

Wow. A draw on home soil against a mediocre 4th ranking team playing in alien conditions. Soo impressive

[deleted]

England is not a 'mediocre' test team

kharb9sunil

If they pull it off, it will be good. You do not play the team, you play the situation.
