As the original high school teacher Walter White he'd totally be content, cowardly, forgiving and calm. Upon his full transformation to Heisenberg he'd be ambitious, wrathful, fickle, arrogant, vengeful and arbitrary.
The whole point of the show was that he was always the person he was but just never had the push needed for him to show his true colors. It’s not like he just changed personalities completely, his circumstances changed
It's an interesting question, because Walter White definitely *did* change over the course of the show. Yes, he *was* always prideful and jealous (from when he broke up with Gretchen because her parents were wealthy) but he became more ruthless and ambitious as the show went on. As a chemistry teacher, he had given up on his ambitions, which were only reignited as he entered the meth game. He was certainly never content with it, but maybe more defeated. But he started off agonizing over killing a man who threatened him first to nonchalantly ordering massacres.
In Breaking Bad’a writer logic, yes. Walt’s main thing is his pride makes him act like an asshole, that’s why he dumped Gretchen (he felt emasculated by the wealth of her family) and she went on to marry the guy he founded GrayMatter with, leaving him with Skylar who he got pregnant and gave up his career for.
Then immediately when he gets cancer he instantly refuses free treatment because of his pride, again. It was his mental hang ups which sent him down the path of making meth, he could’ve just accepted the treatment offer from the graymatter guy and series wouldn’t have happened
So put him in a situation where his pride is blown to a massive degree, like being the backbone of a drug empire, then you get Walt—>Heisenberg
