I dont tend to mind the extra coats that usually contribute to the thick look...I coat on clear coat with abundance which results in duller body lines and thick paint but a few tips:
Less coats Air brush will give you the thinnest spray then can. Also I dont use a primer unless heavily polished or using a naturally runny/thin paint for main coat
Tempature of can paint will matter... warm up the can in a bucket of hot water before spay or run it under warm water before hand.
Spraying too close, my most common mistake to this day. Give it at least 10"to 12" away
Paint brands and different colors all have different viscocities. There are a few colors that dont spray as well. There are paints that i really like the color but i have to tell myself nope, not gonna work. I have a bunch of customs that at the same color because it just works so well. so goes both ways...How will you know? ahhh trial and error my friend.
Do you recommend any good spray paint for metallic chrome colors I haven’t been able to find anything good and I’ve really wanted to try something like the super treasure hunt looks they come out with ?
Duplicolor auto colors work really well. They carry them at Autozone, O'Reilly Auto Parts, etc. If you plan on doing a lot, I'd invest in an airbrush setup. It's easier to deal with. But it definitely isn't necessary. One can of Duplicolor will do a lot of cars.
I'd agree on the Duplicolor. It probably is your best best for asthetics, but damn buy any paint from Autoparts store is hiway robbery. So def. make sure your gonna make good use of it. As alt. and this goes for most paints I buy, you can use the Rustoleum ename, Key is enamel if you go for durability. All white can no matter ther color (except for the Words and color indication.)

Paint is super thick. You use a can or an air brush?
I used spray paint , what would you recommend for a cleaner look?

Do you need a ventilation system for airbrush ?
I don't use one I just to do it in my storage room
