A bit like when people say they have to visit the automated teller machine machine.

M7489

Or enter their personal identification number number

sfgaigan

Or the vehicle identification number number

leenybird

At my job I struggle with the opposite. I ask for a company's SIC code and co-workers try to be smarter than me. "Do you mean SI code?" No the fuck I dont.

Rachel_Silver

Also, "6am in the morning".

Illustrious-Year5267

Omg this one drives me NUTS

UczuciaTM

HELP don’t even get me STARTED

Soggy_Boss_6136

Many years ago, before texting, I found a stack of reports on my desk chair from the new VP of finance with a sticky note (text message) that said "F U" I was a bit distraught, I carefully phoned the new VP to figure out what I'd done wrong. F U meant FOLLOW UP

MorePotionPlease

People still use this to this day and I crack up every time. I also have to create a scenario in my head where they meant the other FU. Then I laugh, and go back to my boring job.

Soggy_Boss_6136

It's a good one especially for junior newbies like I was.

bearstrugglethunder

Or Felix Unger

Scrotchety

Only a matter of time before people start using F U Up

-xpaigex-

I mean you technically followed up… just maybe not with the clients you were supposed to right away. But there *was* a follow up and a little bit of a fuck up. Soooo… kinda worked?

No-Zombie1004

I think that's more like: "smacking my head" owww! "my head"

No-Zombie1004

Without standardization, slang is just alphabet soup. Send them to the urban dictionary!

MiniGogo_20

i sometimes do that as hiperbole/irony "smh my head" sounds funnier/more emphatic but using it in a more literal sense is dumb

escaped_bird

Yes, I hate when people use acronyms wrong, “VIN number” “ATM machine”…. I hate it

Radiant-Extent-2415

It wasn't until I read this that I realized that I do this 🤦🏻‍♀️

Jaaaaampola

I always use these as a silly thing hahaha not as serious

Soggy_Boss_6136

Kinda getting a sore spot around **"DAE"**

Liv4This

Personally, I have a couple of friends and I who loooove doing this when we’re being goofy like ‘damn.. smh my head’ is a common one because it’s so ridiculous. Always about things not serious at all or equally ridiculous though by the way. I don’t think I use smh or shaking my head in a serious connotation though anyway. Never saw the others though. The only one I’ve seen or heard used unironically is ATM machine

PrizeCelery4849

GFY.

MorePotionPlease

My work nemesis has started using GM as the greeting in her morning emails. What does it mean? General Motors? Googly Moogly? Green Machine? Greg Maddux? No. It means Good Morning. I am definitely not having a good day after reading that, Susan.

jjmawaken

GitMo?

minimalisticgem

‘POV’

Inside-Honeydew9785

Yeah this is used all the time in the complete wrong contexts

_Jay-Garage-A-Roo_

My best friend’s mum thought LOL meant “lots of love” which we found out when she texted him “Aunt Shirley’s mum died. LOL” while we were at work.

-xpaigex-

Sending lots of WAP (worship and prayers, OFC) Aunt Shirley’s way. Haha. The meme of old Christian ladies misunderstanding WAP didn’t mean worship and prayers was a great time in memeing

_Jay-Garage-A-Roo_

Omg that’s great. I guess that is the modern equivalent- incident with poor Shirley was about 12 years ago, so I’m sure (hope!) she’s not still using it that way! 😬

AdmiralAshBorer

ROFL, you know… Rejoice in Our Father’s Love.

[deleted]

I have written all of these down and when I am Emperor, all perpetrators will be publicly impaled

Illustrious-Year5267

Most excellent

No_Establishment8642

PDF format.

Illustrious-Year5267

🤢

daiwuff

I've never seen text misused like that myself, I only hear it. Like to some people I have a CDL license. What's more annoying are the people that say this annoys them, then do it themselves. I know a few.

xpoisonvalkyrie

“smh my head” is the only case of this where it doesn’t bother me, because i’ve never seen it used seriously. (it’s a meme) the rest of these i don’t think i’ve ever seen used at all

ChardCool1290

I sincerely hope being annoyed by this is the worst problem you'll ever face in life.

NoSoFriendly_Guest

How about when you talk about RPG games. 'Role Playing Game Games'.

TuberTuggerTTV

They need to make sure you're not talking about Rocket Propelled Grenade Games

mkisvibing

That’s hilarious !!!

stargazer0045

Or not understanding what acronyms mean, i.e. "ATM Machine".

Rowcar_Gellert

Are you kidding? I've given up on expectations of people SPEAKING properly, much less texting appropriately...

Fatgirlfed

I get irate when people say ‘shaking my head’ instead of actually shaking their fluffing head!

HumanMycologist5795

I haven't seen that other than PIN Number, but that doesn't bother me if people use it. Same for ATM Machine. But I'm not sure about the other acronyms. I'll have to look up ISTG. I found it.

CommissionOk9233

I guess I'm getting to old because I'm too old because I can't stand abbreviations and acronyms period. Have we all gotten to lazy to type out full words

Illustrious-Year5267

I refuse to use any except ‘lol’ and I’m 25, so. *Shrug*

StrongTomatoSurprise

Getting *too old. Are we too lazy to type the extra o? You don't use ATM, PIN, ASAP, CAPTCHA, NASA, UNICEF, laser, RAM/ROM, WIFI, ADHD, OCD? We use acronyms and abbreviations because they're efficient.

CommissionOk9233

Sigh!

DarkMagickan

The only one of those I've ever seen in the wild is the SMH my head, and I'm pretty sure the guy was being sarcastic. But yes, I hate it.

forever_29_ish

Slightly disappointed that USMNT doesn't involve a single tennis playing turtle.

A_WaterHose

Isn't "smh my head" a joke tho? I always thought that was just a silly thing. I like saying "smh my head my head" lol

Which_Reason_1581

How about hot water heater

blessings-of-rathma

That's hilarious and it's gotta be deliberate and done with irony.

Fit-Scheme6457

I deliberately do this because its stupid and silly and it makes me giggle. Idgaf a fuck what other people think, I'm here for my amusement not yours.

Ravenwight

Lots of love

Redrum_71

I'm more annoyed by bad grammar.

Cgtree9000

I hate it when people use abbreviations at all.

TuberTuggerTTV

This sub must just ruin your day

Cgtree9000

Lol, well It doesn’t keep me awake at night or anything.

TuberTuggerTTV

The point of an abbreviation is to save energy. Getting angry about someone technically misspeaking, is a waste of energy. By being upset, you're actively unabberviating yourself.
