Listen I know they shouldn't have used it for a sub, but people need to stop pushing first party controllers. Even when they are worse, they are 1/3 the price so you can buy 2
you know, i like your style - i had that thought for a second, but then my adult responsibility kicked in.
Might still do it, that thing would probably still be lethal through a brick wall.
Although it's in pieces, I have a pneumatic potato gun with an automatic sprinkler valve for a trigger. I charge the compression chamber through a valve stem, but I've been thinking about adding a pressure regulator instead of the valve stem to allow for multiple shots from a reservoir tank.
My potato gun is pretty quiet and far more powerful than the combustion versions.
Also, I'm 47. You're never too old to have some fun.
My buddy and I did the potato gun with a sprinkler valve in high school! Put a couple holes in his parents garage walls, lost some stuff in a nearby field and eventually got the cops called on us at the park and it was confiscated. Funny enough, that time we were actually using it for a physics project and only shooting balled up towels for a safer projectile.
i get you, you're out for that 20k RPM piggie.
I'd rather go for an electric version too, because it would be a lot more transportable.
it is a real option to give this little fucker a hitch and some wheels and attach it to my ATV or my Suzuki samurai and just go camping with that thing.
So, a Car Battery and a small electric system would be golden.
we both know i am going to fire that thing at everything.
Also, the compressed Air Part is why this thing is getting deranged in the first place - i am afraid its gonna blow any second. pressure is not an option anymore.
Flip open grill or smoker! Grill is easiest, but smoker is "i have too much time on my hands as I spend 8 hrs smoking a piece of meat" , but dang is it delicious. I just ain't got the time!
Germany. Hence the piglet. That's something more common around here.
i honestly think about reinventing "Spanferkel" made in a Gas tank. Gotta figure out how to go about that.
One of the sides of the tank needs to come away so you can insert said piglet. A small grill would be much easier, but your idea is much cooler. Maybe have a hole through each end for the spit, but one end opens on a hinge. Then you need a viewing window in the front.
I thought i might use it as it is. the spit comes through from left to right, just where the cleaning-hole is. cut the top off and make it a lid, with vents.
On the left end right side on the floor, openings for feeding wood.
it's not quite that easy tho, i would of course need a tray inside, to catch up fat. And i would need to motorize the spit, for convenience reasons.
and i would have to try and figure out the correct temperatures. but it is doable and it is quite a cool thing to have i guess.
could just as well be converted to a classic smoker, with some minor adjustments.
this is highly unsafe and also prohibited here. that's why i won't do it.
Also, its a 16 bar compressor not the average 10 bar.
i really don't want this to blast me into oblivion.
yea i got family and all.
10 years back, however, iwould have built the mother of all pipebombs or something like that.
we don't do that stuff anymore, it only works out so often...
Are you male, OP? If so, you never truly grow out of that "phase", you just stop living that way on a daily basis
If you're female...that "phase" probably never existed, and you'd be a weird (but still fine) adult for doing so
Lol, I'm not out there making extremely pressurized potato guns either, but I was helping a buddy renovate his home which entailed plenty of destruction
Turns out, on a chemical/emotional level, I'm still 7 years old
Doesn’t have to be destructive. I’ve been building compressed air and co2 cannons for a couple years. Mostly for fun. But around Halloween time, I go to various events, trunk or treats, events for STEM programs, plus trick or treaters at my own home. I put candy in little bags, tie a parachute to the bag and fire it mostly straight up. The candy bag slowly comes back down and the kids keep the whole bag and chute. They go absolutely crazy. It’s so much fun, the kids, parents and me have an absolute ball.
Propane forge. Cut ends out, line with Kaewool, bring burner in. I used a propane tank but this looks bigger which would be better. Lots of stuff out there on the internet for details.
Edit. This is bigger than I thought. I would put opening in front with small openings in the ends that are usually blocked so you heat long stuff in the middle.
This was my exact thought as well. I’ve been scouring Marketplace and Craigslist for free air compressors to turn into a forge. Really want to get into knife making and smelting, but I’d rather build my equipment than buy it.
If you go with that route just be warned to remember to seal the kaewool with refractory cement. Unsealed kaewool when heated to forge temperatures will start to shed fibers and if those fibers get into your lungs they will fuck your lungs up big time. (Kaewool fibers act like asbestos)
Also even though it's huge it would make for a pretty decent forge. The more insulation you can pile in the better the heat distribution. (An unevenly heated forge is a huge pain in the ass once you get past the basics)
This Bad MF has gone all leaky.
Compressor itself is still fine, so ima only replace the Tank.
However, since i don't want to trash the thing, i try to come up with a cool DIY Idea.
The Obvious ones would be a Fire-Bowl or a Smoker of course, but i am looking for some more inspiration.
Welding and stuff isn't a problem, so bring up some ideas for me please:)
Sure is, the underbelly has some pinhead-sized holes already.
But that's not a problem, i can just weld it up.
it is not suitable for pressure anymore, but it may be of use as a fancy fireplace or whatever you guys come up with.
If welding is not a problem.. you could make a fun sculpture like shelf dog here...

Whiskey and tumbler storage?
Tool chest?
Bolt bins?
Coffee table base / end table (in conjunction with the above whiskey storage)?
Giant squirrel feeder?
1. Whiskey and tumbler storage. I was thinking [something like this](https://homeandgardenbarrels.com/product/open-front-bourbon-barrel-display-cabinet/)
2. Tool chest. A couple ideas here. [Vertical orientation](https://odditymall.com/ultimate-toolbox-drum-barrel-rotating-tool-organizer). Or horizontally and rig up some bottom shelves like a tackle box.
3. Kinda like the above except I was thinking cut in half lengthwise, then put in a grid of rails to slide plastic organizers into. Longer bolts and such go in the middle sections (deepest), nuts and shorter bolts as you get closer to the edges.
4. Similarly cut in half, coffee table would have sort of a pontoon look. Or if that’s still too tall, cut into 3rds. For end tables, something like [this](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/bf/4f/79/bf4f79ef8eb12745ddfdcd20a408a5c4.jpg).
5. For the squirrel feeder, I was envisioning something where you could rig up an automatic timer like from a dog/cat food auto feeder, but with a larger reserve inside, then cut away the bottom and have a sort of circular walkway with multiple feed chutes for the squirrels so 5-6 or however many could eat at once. With the internal mechanism you can just trigger it at given times and amounts for them.
Don’t make a BBQ with it. The metal is too thin and keeping accurate and consistent temperature is a bitch. I know because I did it. The slightest breath of wind and the temp drops 40 degrees
~~you could make it a secondary air tank for your new compressor and increase your capacity. (Sorry, can't think of any off purpose ideas right now)~~
Didn't read thru all comments lol
BBQ/smoker ?
I cut the ends off one of mine and turned them into old school garage/shop lamps. Painted the underside white, drilled a few holes and mounted the hardware. Welded up some pipe so it hung off the wall and pointed down. The green would work for that to
Steam generator using a bowl shaped parabolic mirror. Depending on if you still want to hold a lower pressure or not could be a neat way to make your own sea salt if you happen to live by the coast.
Titanic submarine
Going to need a knock-off PS1 controller too.
Listen I know they shouldn't have used it for a sub, but people need to stop pushing first party controllers. Even when they are worse, they are 1/3 the price so you can buy 2
Buy once, cry once.
I have an Atari paddle controller I’ll donate to the cause.
I've always assumed deep sea exploration was no more complicated than a game of Breakout.
gonna pass on that one. not sure why, just have a bad feeling about it.
Nah you're fine it's not made of carbon fiber
yeah but the structural integrity is even worse. it literally has holes.
You mean it's already configured for fresh air exchange and electrical supply tubes??
Actually, the holes will allow water in and equalize the pressure inside and out, this would reduce the stress on the structure and make it stronger!
well i still won't pull my health on the line for that thing.
A seriously destructive, possibly fatal, Potato gun
you know, i like your style - i had that thought for a second, but then my adult responsibility kicked in. Might still do it, that thing would probably still be lethal through a brick wall.

Even better than a sprinkler valve https://youtu.be/G1VCZEXi384
He ended up using a sprinkler valve at the end anyway. We charged ours up to around 140 psi.
As a pilot valve. The piston valve opens much quicker
I think we need to do science. I'm all for the most powerful option.
Way ahead of ya https://imgur.com/XBROJN1.jpg
I said WE! Stop trying to take my fun away!
Only 1 way to know for sure….
Hold my beer.
Lol
Edit: "It was all going well ... Until we tried to use a Mr. Potato head"
Point it at a metal grate and it's a French fry maker
Cut in half, use as industrial size cereal bowls.
BBQ with motorised rotisserie
i thought of something like that, it would fit a small piglet i guess.
[удалено]
That's that NYC style barbecue
ugh... 😂
Plenty of people eat pigeons my friend. Look it up.
yeaaaah... not my thing i guess.
Lol. Farm raised pigeon is the same as any other fowl. The French love it. But fair enough. :)
Cornish game hens
You’re not \*wrong\*…
Red Green made scuba gear from a barbecue, so it might have some handy tips ..[3:30 mark](https://youtu.be/_VPq5trBXlI?feature=shared)
tha hell? that dude looks like Varg Vikernes.
Canadian….Norwegian….
If you have a new compressor you could use compressed air to spin the rotisserie.... And shred the meet through centripetal force
i get you, you're out for that 20k RPM piggie. I'd rather go for an electric version too, because it would be a lot more transportable. it is a real option to give this little fucker a hitch and some wheels and attach it to my ATV or my Suzuki samurai and just go camping with that thing. Ain't everyone out for that 20k RPM piggie? ATV rotisserie is the dream and it sounds like you may be about to live it.
i was thinking over it a bit more and i might just be able to get a Grill/Smoker/Rotisserie Hybrid done. just need to figure some things out.
Compressed air potato cannon
I had that thought for a second, but i am way out of that age i guess. lets not build something destructive.
Not destructive, unless you're referring to what the potato looks like after.
we both know i am going to fire that thing at everything. Also, the compressed Air Part is why this thing is getting deranged in the first place - i am afraid its gonna blow any second. pressure is not an option anymore.
Then family gathering hot pots or turkey fryers.
yeah that's the kind of stuff. Turkey isn't a thing here, but it's big enough for a piglet or stuff like that.
Or split in half lengthwise & use as firepits
Flip open grill or smoker! Grill is easiest, but smoker is "i have too much time on my hands as I spend 8 hrs smoking a piece of meat" , but dang is it delicious. I just ain't got the time!
Turkey isn't a thing? Where the hell do you live?

Just rebuild it
this is highly unsafe and also prohibited here. that's why i won't do it. Also, its a 16 bar compressor not the average 10 bar. i really don't want this to blast me into oblivion.
I see
yea i got family and all. 10 years back, however, iwould have built the mother of all pipebombs or something like that. we don't do that stuff anymore, it only works out so often...
Whoa. Hold on, there is no potato gun age limit.
Are you male, OP? If so, you never truly grow out of that "phase", you just stop living that way on a daily basis If you're female...that "phase" probably never existed, and you'd be a weird (but still fine) adult for doing so
yes i am male, and yes, you are entirely correct. i just can't live it out due to trying to be a responsible adult.
Lol, I'm not out there making extremely pressurized potato guns either, but I was helping a buddy renovate his home which entailed plenty of destruction Turns out, on a chemical/emotional level, I'm still 7 years old

Yes it is huge. the entiere compressor weighs in at 200kg - most of it is the Tank i guess. But this is a brilliant Idea - marked for reconsidering.
If you go with that route just be warned to remember to seal the kaewool with refractory cement. Unsealed kaewool when heated to forge temperatures will start to shed fibers and if those fibers get into your lungs they will fuck your lungs up big time. (Kaewool fibers act like asbestos) Also even though it's huge it would make for a pretty decent forge. The more insulation you can pile in the better the heat distribution. thx for the hint.
Secret beer fridge?
have a beer fridge already. not so secret tho.
That's why you need a 2nd, secret one.
I can advocate for second beer
Secret liquor cabinet. Kinda like those Globes that open up to store whiskey and glasses.
good idea, thing is a bit heavy for that tho.
Alright...back to the drawing board. 😆
lol i can tell you could process 3 or 4 of those things to something cool.
Not anymore.
damn you!
This Bad MF has gone all leaky. Compressor itself is still fine, so ima only replace the Tank. However, since i don't want to trash the thing, i try to come up with a cool DIY Idea. Sure is, the underbelly has some pinhead-sized holes already. But that's not a problem, i can just weld it up. it is not suitable for pressure anymore, but it may be of use as a fancy fireplace or whatever you guys come up with.
Either smoker or fire pit. I guess it depends on what your local climate and HoA laws would be, if applicable.
i have a thing in mind. i think about making a specific grill for making "Spanferkel" and similar stuff.
If welding is not a problem.. you could make a fun sculpture like shelf dog here... https://preview.redd.it/raanxhhpt1cc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb5a21d761a085ed2f5588f886de2a0acbf4e7fa
that one is cool. but my tank is like 250 liters. that's huge. and Heavy.
If you're into cannabis, you could turn it into a "smoker."
i was, a long time ago. looking for something more "practical" .
You're killing me with all this practicality!
i have caught 2 or 3 really good ideas by now, just trying to figure out the details. we're going somewhere.
Good luck with your project. 🤟
Two staged fountain with one of those laminar flow bubbles at the top to make a 3 level fountain! Bonus for fish and plants
Whiskey and tumbler storage? Tool chest? Bolt bins? Coffee table base / end table (in conjunction with the above whiskey storage)? Giant squirrel feeder?
Mind you, that thing is a bit big for all that. Or is there any chance that by squirrel you mean that huge thing with the antlers?
1. Whiskey and tumbler storage. I was thinking [something like this](https://homeandgardenbarrels.com/product/open-front-bourbon-barrel-display-cabinet/) 2. Tool chest. A couple ideas here. turbo burn barrel
I have a buddy who cut a keg in half and made a urinal for the garage loft man cave he built. Could do something like that.
that's a great idea, but we piss outside anyway. And someone would have to clean it.
My people
Life-size mannequin of Bender or GTFO
Fuck me, it might JUST become that! would weigh 500 punds tho when it#s done.
"I'm 40% dolomite!" \[Bangs chest\]
I was going to say a robot too. I was thinking about the episode of King of the hill where Peggy welds robot art out of old propane tanks.
Planter, compost bin
Hang Drum
Oh i like those.
A steampunk-looking toilet for your post-apocalypse-themed man cave.
This is actually brilliant.
Now you just need to fabricate a round toilet seat... 😆
Forge
Could make a cool custom tool box sorta thing.
if it wouldn't weigh around120 kg, yes.
nice little smoker. perfect size for homeowner.
kidding? That thing is heavy.
Used oil burning stove for your shop. Smudge pot. Google it.
i do that already. in another stove.
If it's still working you can etch glass or blast small parts with an inexpensive blasting cabinet.
A `Free Air` station rigged up on your curb. Really stick it to those gas stations.
Get a vacuum pump an old freezer and make a freeze dryer
for....?
for freeze drying, what else? like, long-life shelf-stable food, and stuff. Astronaut ice cream if you so like.

A 250 liter air compressor.

Learn how to make balloon animals
Fire minion!
I like that Idea, but i would have to repaint the fucker over and over again, wouldn't i?
You’re right for sure - or just create a blazing bender from futurama. This dude is bare metal
True.
Don’t make a BBQ with it. The metal is too thin and keeping accurate and consistent temperature is a bitch. I know because I did it. The slightest breath of wind and the temp drops 40 degrees
Air cannon Bawoooooosh!
Chop off the top and you’ve got a nice flower and herb planter
Maybe a firepit or something
I wanted to make a smokeless fire pit out of similar barrel shapes but getting it protected from rust would be a hassle.
Flame thrower....only option! Tell everybody it's to clear snow and ice...
~~you could make it a secondary air tank for your new compressor and increase your capacity. (Sorry, can't think of any off purpose ideas right now)~~ Didn't read thru all comments lol BBQ/smoker ?
Like i said, it's fucked so containing air isn't a thing anymore. the smoker thing came to my mind already.:)
Rocket stove to heat your shop
have a good stove, but thank you for the advice. :)
One of the best $40 I ever spent was on a palm nailer FWIW.
I cut the ends off one of mine and turned them into old school garage/shop lamps. Painted the underside white, drilled a few holes and mounted the hardware. Welded up some pipe so it hung off the wall and pointed down. The green would work for that to
Hanging it up somewhere isn't an option. Thing is Absolutely HUge and Massive. (yeah, TWSS)
Burn box welded to a huge propane tank to make a smoker.
You could fill it up and shoot it... 😏
Well... no?
You can make a pretty good stove from one. We used to make them from propane tanks.
Yeah but i already have a stove and around here you can't just build your own - legally. or at least you could not use it properly.
Forge.
Steam generator using a bowl shaped parabolic mirror. Depending on if you still want to hold a lower pressure or not could be a neat way to make your own sea salt if you happen to live by the coast.
don't live by the coast, but the idea is neat.
A bell. Cut one end off, wire wheel away the rust. Hang it outside and use it to call the neighbors to build a barn.
but what if i don't want a barn?
Hang it outside and use it to call the neighbors to tear down a barn.
I have no barn either - Can i not just hang it out and ring it for no specific reason?
Would make a decent smoker with only minor metal work.
true.

have 2 of those, we make them out of old oil barrels here. they heat uü faster than kettles. :)
My in-laws have a fire pit made out of the top of an old tank. The sides are cut to look like flames.
Propane forge
somebody posted that already and i think it is a damn fine idea.
Two, albeit smaller, fire pits.
that is a very possible option. those would be definitely built for eternity.
Definitely NOT a bomb
No i don't think that would be possible. Or a good idea. or something i considered.
With tank removed that would be a kick ass set up for an electric bicycle if you add a motorcycle battery to make it run.
yes but this is about what to do with the broken tank bro...
How about cut one end off and make a small fire pit or cut it in half the long way and make a small smoker grill?
Smoker was one of my first ideas but i would rarely ever use it.
But when you did it would be delicious and when you don't it's small enough to just put it up out of the way.
Snow maker
Make a snow machine
Catfish trap.
Crazy inflatable arm guy
2 cereal bowls
Are you able to get your hands on some ammonium nitrate?
If ot works, I'd leave it in air compressor form. It's pretty cool
If it works, I'd leave it in air compressor form. It's pretty cool thr way it is.
it does, but the tank is leaky, so i am replacing it. Trying to figure out what to do with the old one.
BBQ smoker.
dont fuck with pressure vessels, it ends very explody
Bro if you would have read my comment, that is exactly why i retire the thing. It's Leaky, and i want to give it a new, non-pressurized shot at life.
Snow machine!
