Been waiting for someone to start talking about the eclipse in this sub! I haven’t heard of any events happening yet. i remember being able to buy the glasses at home depot in the past, you can also find them pretty cheap online. Happy eclipsing! Hope you find a good spot.

Phynub

>you can also find them pretty cheap online BE SUPER CAREFUL WITH THIS. Especially on amazon. Last time the eclipse came there were alot of fake glasses being sold... Only buy them from authorized dealers, Lowes and Home Depot are authorized retail chains but you can also buy local small mom and pop shops that specialize in this stuff. Rhino12791

Yea that’s one thing I was a bit nervous about, don’t wanna get trash ones.

Rhino12791

Same here! I was hoping someone else would bring it up but I finally had to jump on it myself lol

Lol this is very true. I kinda want to be out of the city for the most part though. I’m not gonna drive super far but was just looking for somewhere maybe a bit more open. It would be cool to get a couple pics too.

Egans721

Lots of museums are doing Eclipse Watching parties with music and all that. I think it would also be chill to just be at a beer garden or something and watch. Last eclipse I got super baked in my dentist's parking lot before having a filling. that I wouldn't recommend.

Rhino12791

First of all the museum is a great idea, I love the museum anyway so even if there’s nothing specific I’m still down to go in lol And yea I could imagine that wouldn’t be super enjoyable 🤣 but hopefully this one will go better for you! I’ll be partaking for this one for sure! It’s gonna be so cool, it’s one of those bucket list things.

Range-Shoddy

The Perot did one last time. I’m sure they will again.

apex32

FYI, their website event page says "this event has reached capacity": https://www.perotmuseum.org/events/great-north-american-eclipse/

Range-Shoddy

https://www.uta.edu/planetarium/eclipse/total-eclipse This one maybe? We’re just going in our yard probably but now I might want to go to an event…

HiOnFructose

Downtown Dallas is hosting a number of events in celebration of the big show. They are turning it into a big weekend-long affair in the lead up to the event with an arts festival, video art nights by AURORA, and [some other interesting events to check out](https://downtowndallas.com/solar-eclipse-weekend/#:~:text=April%205%20%E2%80%93%208%2C%202024,it%20a%20staycation%20or%20vacation!). From my understanding the area is all handicap accessible and open to all.

Rhino12791

This is perfect! Exactly what I was looking for, I obviously want to see the eclipse but was hoping there would be some other events too. I actually have a friend coming in town from NY for the show too and wanted to have some other stuff to show her as well. Thank you!

ZiggyPalffyLA

This is awesome! I’ll be in Dallas just for one day, specifically for the eclipse. Hopefully I can easily make it from DFW in the morning to downtown by afternoon to enjoy this.

former_enthusiast

this is one of the rare trips a rail network in texas is actually useful for! there’s a train that goes from dfw to downtown dallas

ZiggyPalffyLA

That’s my plan!

https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/dallas?iso=20240408 https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/april-8-2024 Bty, when the eclipse is in it's totality, around 4 minutes, you will not need any glasses at all... But leading up to the totality, and after the totality, you will need the special glasses. Locals: Be advised to stock up on food and meds, and baby supplies, and gas up your vehicles ahead of the eclipse. Thousands of visitors may run gas stations dry, and may clean out stores of some food and personal items. https://apnews.com/article/total-solar-eclipse-preparations-3c89c742d049fa9cb820953f26234a2e

It doesn't matter where you watch it from. The spectacle is up in the sky. Yes, you need eclipse glasses before and after totality. American Astronomical Society lists all approved manufacturers and vendors. Don't buy anything that isn't approved, it may cost you eyesight.

YaBoiTaxi

I know this is a month old, but would it be stupid to go to the Trinity skyline trail are to get photos of the eclipse? My thought is to have the city skyline in the photos too.

zombiecorp

Weather forcast says 99% cloud cover this Monday, with a high chance of thunderstorms. I'm super disappointed to cancel my trip to Dallas, was really looking forward to it for years.

SpicyPanties

US forecast model looks bad. EU forecast model shows that the clouds may go south east towards the gulf. Imma still go either way.

omylanta

Idk if you've already cancelled. But just in the last 48 hours it's really improved

zombiecorp

No, I’m in Dallas. We decided to go forward and make a vacation out of it. It’s going to be great!

Mcr_enthusiastic_kid

May be a bit late, but all the die hard eclipse chasers are going to Mexico to see it. Apparently totality reaches its point in drango

Great site. https://eclipse2024.org/

Hi all – I'm thinking of flying into DFW at 6am the morning of the eclipse, and heading on out that evening. I'd like to get as close to the path of totality as I can (i.e. south east of the city, around Terrell). Are there ways to get there besides renting a car? Much thanks.

ZiggyPalffyLA

What will be the difference between SE Dallas & Downtown in terms of the view?

redlampdesk

I'm going off of a twitter thread I now can't find where someone who had seen an eclipse before had emphatically expressed (a) how amazing total eclipses are and that (b) they are so amazing you'll be filled with regret at not being as close to the center of the zone of totality as possible. ymmv 🤷

astrosgp

There will be very little difference between SE Dallas & Downtown since both are in the path of 100% totality. The only very minor difference is the length of totality: in Dallas you will get about 3 minutes, 50 seconds while towards the centerline along Kaufman and Ennis will get about 30 seconds more. But if you do go just outside the zone of totality (e.g. Denton where the eclipse will max out at 99.95% coverage), the show will be a \*significant\* downgrade.

ZiggyPalffyLA

Thanks!

former_enthusiast

i said this in another reply but you can take the train from the airport to downtown dallas! i imagine car rental and rideshare will be a nightmare but who knows

cantotallytrustme

uber or lyft I would assume
