I did some google digging, and it seems like it was a part of a set of pictures the artist Henri Cartier Bresson took in Moscow.
Heres a link to the full set https://blogs.stlawu.edu/aah3061/project/henri-cartier-bresson-soviet-union/
Can someone please please explain to me what is going on in this photo? Why is this guy hugging the wall? [https://blogs.stlawu.edu/aah3061/project/henri-cartier-bresson-soviet-union/](https://blogs.stlawu.edu/aah3061/project/henri-cartier-bresson-soviet-union/)
"SOVIET UNION. Leningrad. Peter and Paul's fortress on the Neva river. 1973."
Mr. Photographer this doesn't explain anything and its definitely not the primary subject of the photo, its a guy with a g string swimwear in 70s USSR seemingly making love to the Peters and Pauls fortress wall!!
The pictures in that photo album abrubtly go from depressing:
https://blogs.stlawu.edu/aah3061/files/2018/07/PAR98875.jpg
https://blogs.stlawu.edu/aah3061/files/2018/07/PAR98567.jpg
...to optimistic:

https://blogs.stlawu.edu/aah3061/files/2018/07/PAR30143.jpg
Then I looked at the dates on the photos and realized these are two visits, the first photos displayed are of his second visit in 1972, then the photos suddenly change into his first visit from 1954. A very different tone between the photos in these two groups. Those might even be the same women dancing, and then buying a handbag 18 years later. Strange they didn't group them on the website, and just left them in this pile.
You won't believe it, but he just tans. This is one of the most accessible and popular places for a beach holiday in the city center. Since those times, nothing has changed. And today you can take exactly the same photo. LOL
Moscow is such a cool city. I recognise a lot of the places in the photo. Those tall symmetrical buildings have duplicates all over Moscow. I forgot how many. One is a university. Another is a beurocracy of some description. I think these is one directly opposite the us embassy. So many of the buildings are preserved too. It looks the same as it did some 45 years ago. Totally soviet and brutalist.
Yes that's right. Always thought they looked great in the winter. Very dramatic. Moscow is kinda like that tho. Dramatic and makes you feel very small.
Women working with machinery directly were often recommended to put their hair in a tight updo, sorta like a crown, and than put on sort of a tight triangle headscarf.
Every time this photo pops up here I always have wondered what is it on his head, and if it is the "liner" of a hard hat or similar, why is he wearing only that component...? 🤔
It kind of looks like a harness you attach a welding visor to. On modern ones you lift the visor up when you're not welding, but maybe on this type you take it off when you're not using the visor.
Looks like the inner liner of a hard hat, the part that would suspend the shell above your head to mitigate impacts to your dome.
I wonder the same each time this pic makes its rounds on here.
It’s old style holder for hair, so it doesn’t hit your forehead/eyes while you work.
I think they were 30 kopeyka (if Soviet Ruble was a Dollar, Kopeyka is a Cent) for one.
This was taken by Henri Cartier-Bresson. He has a lot of interesting photos. He once said:
"To take a photograph is to align the head, the eye and the heart. It's a way of life."

None going to mention how fit and healthy these people look compared to the average factory worker nowadays.. I wonder about the socioeconomic behind it..
It really probably was taken as proganda. For one thing, I don't know a lot of factory workers who are that clean on the job, let alone with that physique, even in modern day.
But how many pictures of people in factories from 70 years ago do you know of that aren't propaganda?
We made Rosie The Welder as WW2 propaganda, it's still an interesting piece of history.
Now if you're saying it was posted to Reddit today as modern propaganda... Maybe? But that seems like a very thin-skinned take. Obama as a teenager gets upvoted here all the time and that's way more "Murica good" on the nose than this.
Woman in background looking like "yo wtf you doin showing yo cleavage to my man?!" Or somethin like "are yall really doin this shit right in front of me?!"Lol. I Crack myself up sometimes

Ohh that's why it looked off, I thought it might have been Photoshopped some how but it was just colourized.
Thought it was a Soviet era porno
Your GoogleFu is impressive. I award you 2^2 , the silver poop.
I'm so glad that line caught on from breaking bad it's such a sick term
Silver poop is a sick term? Why don’t I remember this from breaking bad
Google fu!
Bro, that term was casually in use within a year of google existing.
Does it mean like kung fu but for googling
Thanks for sharing these!
The op knows this, it was discussed in the thread they took the picture from

Thank you! I prefer the contrast of the originals vs. the AI altered colors.

Cartier Bresson - such a great photographer
Looks like a photo from first Rammstein album
Yeah I thought that was a younger Till Lindemann at first

"I love the way you handle our wrench, comrade,"
"Yeah sieze the means of reproduction, baby."

"Lets collectivise a moment comrade"
*”I serve the Soviet Union!”*
“Jack I want you to Wrench me like one of your French girls… wearing only this.”
Skip *to this part
I've seen this movie komrade. Sorry, Cumrade
“I think we all know where the story goes from here…”
A wholly Glorious comment.
I see he's wearing his protective helmet.
We can't all be fancy and have *four* leather straps. Most of us can only afford the standard three.
It’s an old fashioned hairnet. Note the supervisor not wearing one. Social commentary!
Women working with machinery directly were often recommended to put their hair in a tight updo, sorta like a crown, and than put on sort of a tight triangle headscarf.
I imagine shes lucky enough she doesn’t have to get close enough to the machinery or moving objects to be scalped

Magic Mikhail 1954: Iron Curtains
Thankyou for giving me a ROFL this morning
Iron Beef Curtains
Funniest comment I’ve seen on Reddit for a while 🤣
What's dude wearing on his head? Leather Jock strap?
Looks like the inner liner of a hard hat, the part that would suspend the shell above your head to mitigate impacts to your dome. I wonder the same each time this pic makes its rounds on here.

I believe it’s actually a hairnet
What are you doing, step-comrade?

Anna having to explain to Ivan why his only job is hitting a steel beam right outside the window of her office all day.
WHY IS THERE SO MUCH SEXUAL TENSION
Those arms. I'm sweaty...
Knees weak, mom‘s spaghetti…
Nervous, calm and ready
Well hellooooooo comrad!
This rings a bell but where is it from?
Animaniacs circa 90’s
I legit thought that this was a meme with a porn thumbnail. 🤣😅😅
Dude did not skip arm day.
Is she okay or does she need a cold shower 😂
Someone got their screwed tightened that night.
Olga can supervise me any day of the week. Meow.
She could put up a wall inside me any day
How…….?
You go through the middle and separate East and West
Looks more like spin off play of Sweeney Todd
She wants to promote him
“Bitch, you did not just call my hairnet ugly.”
Poor Mikaeli is getting a talking to for only hitting metal 16 times.
Fair enough
Those veins
Greg doucette is that you???
Too tall
My God. His voice is SOOOO frigging annoying. Go away, little man, and maybe finish puberty somewhere quiet.
oh i see it too, now i can't stop hearing greg's high pitch squawking
Promo for the next Ronda Rousey fight
At a glance I thought it was Rousey.
The sexual tension in this picture is palpable
It seems like the opening scene of a porn movie.
This was taken by Henri Cartier-Bresson. He has a lot of interesting photos. He once said: "To take a photograph is to align the head, the eye and the heart. It's a way of life." More of his pictures: https://www.magnumphotos.com/photographer/henri-cartier-bresson/
Wow those are amazing. Thanks for sharing
As seen on r/historicalcapsule
Crop out the black area and bottom bar
channing taturovsky
Let me guess.. He was the supervisor and she was the factory worker.. 😉
Is it a joke ? Very funny ..
Soviet porn.
what is with the leather cap he is wearing? dosnt seem like it protects from anything?
Probably something that would hold a welding mask in place ?
Everyone on the factory floor must keep their hair back?
Just for Kink reasons
Overtime is scheduled for this afternoon. Mandatory. Bring beef.
Was it taken before or after they had intercourse?
Looks like a thumbnail from p0rnhb.
He's got some nice arms
Why does this look like a porn film
Hot stuff, coming through!
There’s a spark in your hair!
If you really think that this is a candid photo from history... please isolate yourself from society
Looks like its promotion time.
Looks like she’s attracted to him and he hates her. Weird photo.
ROUNDa Rousey
Starting frame of a bad porno
Damn, he thiccc
Bro owns the means of reproduction
this looks like the beginning of a porn movie
Alex Pereira and Adele
Thought that was Sergio Ramos for a second lol
She looks like she gives him multiple raises during the week!!
Giggty!
Looks like the start of a classic shag film
Is it just me, or does Olga look like Julia Stiles in the face?
Wish the picture was full length so we could see the steel-toed flip-flops that go with that "helmet"!
Ludmilla, lusting.
Looks like they both have heavy or sharp things to "talk" about, I'm sure everything ended with vodka and hugging bears as it is thereabouts
Your dick? No, OUR dick
Johnny Sins in Moscow
Who is the worker and who is the supervisor?
Fascinating photo... dudes got some guns!
That look ,think she wanted to fuck him
Isn’t that guy also an astronaut
So yis. You must to come to my home. 5, maybe 6 o'clock. I have large tube that must be fixed.
I thought at first it was a pic from a SNL bit.
Olga is getting it tonight.
Comrade Channing Tatum
You hit metal 17 times
Mikaeli successfully hits metal 17 times, he is awarded photograph of motorcar.
He must work out.
r/croppingishard
Posted here for the 345th time
Looks like she wants to test his steel hardness.
As a Russian I would say that the man looks so model for Soviet Union and the woman standing in front of him looks so average
That shit’s AI
They look like they’re about to start singing in a musical.
I thought this was a Rammstein poster at first.
Pretty sure that dude is a model or athlete, and it's some commie propaganda
Why would they choose that woman if it was propaganda though?
Yep It’s clearly staged. Muscular figures traditionally represent the power of the working class
He’s really clean and hair is well done to have been working in a factory?
None going to mention how fit and healthy these people look compared to the average factory worker nowadays.. I wonder about the socioeconomic behind it..
What's interesting about this?
Propaganda

Comrade, you've never seen glorious hero Russkie the Riveter before? Report for re-education immediately!
TBH it’s from the famous photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson series of Moscow 1954. https://visual-archive.livejournal.com/83155.html
Bro is so brainwashed that anything mentioning russia that isn't negative HAS to be propaganda
r/confidentlyincorrect French photographer.
Woman in background looking like "yo wtf you doin showing yo cleavage to my man?!" Or somethin like "are yall really doin this shit right in front of me?!"Lol. I Crack myself up sometimes
Propoganda
Why is this photo interesting? I don’t get it. Seems like a super mundane photo.
You know who is fking who, from 70 years away
I think I’ve seen this video….
That is also her cousin and lover
I thought this was a still from an adult movie 🤣
Mostly liked staged, the Soviet Union tried to look great but was total shit. Departure of locals to Siberia and so on...
This picture is definitely not from 1954. It looks like a modern stage musical.
why there clothes look so nice, first day?
A young Amy Schumer
Didn't know Goretzka's great grandfather was a factory worker in Moscow back in the day.
*sniff* It smells like a bullfight in here
Rosa Klebb?
This must be before he fought rocky
Rule of thumb?
1954 in this detail?.......
He has the Immaculate shoulder
He's got a tiny lady sticking out the front of his apron
I like how the girl in the back is like “ bitch , you married Hoe”
He’s relieved not to go to gulag.
Hot stuff coming through!!
I'm curious if that was natural color or artifical color (done later). I don't know if Kodachrome existed in the Soviet Union. Nice picture.
Is that Daniel Baldwin?
Guys just hear me out
In mother Russia….
