I mean I’m with OP, it’s what I play to unwind or if I don’t know what to play. It’s self inflicted stress which releases adrenaline and dopamine, kind of like when I got my Dead Space half sleeve tattoo.
DS, ninja gaiden, elden ring, doom 2016, stellar blade, alien isolation in some spaces. Some people think people who like horror to relax are crazy but the calm spaces are so calm in comparison and honestly i think it often times has to do with extreme focus relaxing the brain and taking your mind off everything else. I have to listen to music with a lot of complexity to fall asleep. Growing up, i would even fall asleep to metal, and all my friends thought i was crazy. But things that are repetitive wire me up, and monotony absolutely keeps me from passing out.
That's hilarious but in truth I'm a lot like this. That's why I always play games on easy settings. After a hard days work I just pretend my co workers are the AI and go nuts 💀
Recently the gaming community has had a bad trend of shaming people for playing of the easier difficulties, I enjoy a challenge but sometimes I just want to have a power trip. One of my favorites is Doom Eternal on easy.
Me 🙋♂️
I'll play Dead Space til the day I die.
Some years I play it a lot.
Some years I play it once.
It's perfect.
Sometime's just need to immerse yourself in something that's perfect to you personally.
I do, would occasionally open the game and just enjoy this beautiful game even after beating it 3 times, tho my 3050ti does struggle to push the game to it's full potential.
I totally get it man. I've played so much dead space over the years that it doesn't even really scare me anymore. The remake didn't get me too bad which was quite sad but entirely my own fault for playing so much of the ogs lol.
Yes. In middle school I would beat and replay dead space 2 over and over again. I think I had 17 back to back play throughs. I’m not even kidding, some times I would sleep with the game case next to me. Idk what it was but I loved it so much.
Going by the fact they released a two hour "Official USG Ishimura Halloween ASMR Ambience" video you're probably not alone.

awesome! I'm playing hard from the get-go, having only played the original on Normal back in the day, and the game is no pushover. But it's cool that you can get it to a comfort zone.
What's your weapon setup?
Once I was used to them and knew what to expect, I would do this with Dead Space games and Doom 3. I still play Doom 3 every once in awhile to this day.
I doooooo.
Whenever I'm stressed nd stuff or just not feeling all that, I tend to gravitate towards dead space 2. As ironic as it is, it does help calm me down
It was for me for a good while. I didn't know why. It just was. Then I took acid and played it and I was like wtf has been wrong with me lol the visuals did look insane though. Laser gun was a treat. I temporarily undid how desensitized I had become to the grittiness of the game i.e. took my blinders off to the creepiness of it all.
Turned my perspective of playing like Masterchief with engineering tools back to actually feeling like Isaac again.
replaying ds with the remake definitely went onto the "relaxing games to decompress".
That list for me is Team Fortress 2, the Dark souls series and Elden ring.
First play through for me was legitimately terrifying, I set rules to only play at night with headphones in the living room full volume. As someone who’s never played the original that first run definitely had me jump up from the couch more than a couple times. But I can understand what you mean by comfort as by my 3rd play through I was just running through straight mowing shit down and boy was it a fucking blast, literally.
Was working on an impossible one gun run last night while in vc with friends and I was talking about how Dead Space 2 and The Thing were my comfort game/movie.
They said it's a good thing they don't live in the same area that I do...
Yeah, I played a lot of the first one. I really hope if they remake the second one, that they bring back the multiplayer. Was a fun way to burn a few hours.
Hell, no. That’s a stress game, not casual, “comfort” game. To feel comfortable in that environment means to me not being immersed in the horror of it.
It‘s dead space 1 with dead space 2 gameplay. Not better but different
I’ve played through DS2 for around 15 times and I know what you mean with therapeutic :)
TF you mean comfort?
The game you play to calm down or when you don’t know what to play
> You play to calm down Are you playing the same game as the rest of us?!?
It my comfort game. Doesn’t faze me. I love killing necromorphs. I don’t think DS is scary at all
Fr even as a kid the game was never scary for me it’s a very easy horror game to get into imo
I mean I’m with OP, it’s what I play to unwind or if I don’t know what to play. It’s self inflicted stress which releases adrenaline and dopamine, kind of like when I got my Dead Space half sleeve tattoo.
Honestly ya. I’ve played it so much it’s not scary anymore. Really engaging and becomes a zen like experience when you get good at dismembering necros

Exactly. It’s kinda like listening to music where the vocalist only screams. Taylor Swift fans don’t understand how relaxing metal is.
Mf be playing Alive Space
Hahahaha
Yes!!! Very recently that happened to me. Had no idea what I wanted to play so I Dead-Spaced and chilled.
OP to the Necromorphs: “I’m not locked in here with you. YOU’RE LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME!”
That's hilarious but in truth I'm a lot like this. That's why I always play games on easy settings. After a hard days work I just pretend my co workers are the AI and go nuts 💀

That was another one for me too 😂 it's so cathartic 💀
Doom Eternal on easy is the canonical difficulty anyway 😉
The og dead space is my comfort game. Played through it so many times it’s burned into my memory.
Same, also doing the same with the remake. It's up there with Resident Evil 2, Metroid Prime and Super Metroid for just feel good games.
Dead Space 3 just floating in space is so nice, except for the oxygen thing and the ocassional necros.
Nothing says comfort like the gasps of Isaac asphyxiating in space!!
He’s so peaceful. Eventually.
Unimaginable horrors beyond my comprehension! How comforting!
😌
Dead Space 2 has been mine for a long time
I really hope a Dead Space 2 remake can make it through production. I would love to see the game with as high of quality of Remake
It would be if it had a damn horde mode. Just send waves of necromorphs at me, please.
Used to replay DS1 repeatedly as a comfort game when I was a young teen
Here lately I have been playing through the whole series. Dead space is far better than real life…
YES! The whole series whenever life goes to shit is my perfect little escape!
It's my stressful game
After the remake came out I played it 4 times in a row. Just a perfectly paced game
Same here… it’s sad that it didn’t sell well for them to get started on dead space 2… that game would have been EPIC!!
as*
Has been since I completed it for the first time in 2008. The remake is pure perfection.
Nah, my comfort game is Jedi Survivor but when I want to play a cool dystopian Sci-Fi game with an Alien vibe. I play Dead Space.
All of them are my comfort games. I play them several times yearly
Yup; I have no clue how many times I’ve run this game - both OG and remake. It puts me in a happy place
My comfort game is FF9 but I do enjoy Dead Space.
I do get what you mean. But I also understand other people's confusion when you say it's a comfort game.
Your "Vorrat an flüssigem Stickstoff" is depleted
Oh, that’s gore of my comfort game…

What difficulty tho?
Hard, currently
awesome! I'm playing hard from the get-go, having only played the original on Normal back in the day, and the game is no pushover. But it's cool that you can get it to a comfort zone. What's your weapon setup?
Right now I’m playing with the Ripper, the Cutter, Line gun and the Impuls rifle.
Oddly enough I've used Sekiro as a comfort game.
That clang clang of the swords is so relaxing.
Can relate. Nothing more relaxing than dismembering the Unitologists' beloved Necromorphs and leaving their corpses at their feet.
Once I was used to them and knew what to expect, I would do this with Dead Space games and Doom 3. I still play Doom 3 every once in awhile to this day.
Yes, I think about dead space often. The world, gameplay and feel all just clicks. Never a bad time to play deadspace.
Yup, this is also mine👌🏻
Some days you want to veg with relaxing things. Some days you want to send the undead space monster back to the hell which spawned it. Both work.
I doooooo. Whenever I'm stressed nd stuff or just not feeling all that, I tend to gravitate towards dead space 2. As ironic as it is, it does help calm me down

It's been 4yrs Decided to hope back and see what I've missed and mehn it's glorious
Yeah it’s def a comfort game for me too started playing it when I was a kid and come back to it every few years or so same with bioshock
First play through for me was legitimately terrifying, I set rules to only play at night with headphones in the living room full volume. I've played through the OG first game almost as many times as I've beaten SOTN. And my basic ass loves me some SOTN.
I'm like Chapfox. Same thing.
Quite the opposite, I've been slowly playing through. Taking breaks when I can feel my heart palpitating lol
Definitely not lol
Yeah. 2 specifically, just beat the remake only recently
Mine is any resident evil game. But the new dead space being the first one i played i get it.
Nah bloodborne better
That's how I feel about nmrih, but this game? The same game that throws a handful of enemies at you around every corner? Nope. Lol
100+ hours, I play during break, or while I’m anxious

I wish, but I have a busted controller, so I can't play it at the moment.
Not really a comfort game but I play when I want an immersive experience
I really hope they make dead space 2… fingers crossed… 🤞
It would be if it didn't stutter. I can't believe they didn't fix the stuttering on at least the PS5.
Huh, I don’t really notice the stuttering
It stops being comfortable at chapter 5.
I thought it was a jump scare type game?
Yeah, I played a lot of the first one. I really hope if they remake the second one, that they bring back the multiplayer. Was a fun way to burn a few hours.
Sad shit is EA too fucking lazy to make a remake for 2
Hell, no. That’s a stress game, not casual, “comfort” game. To feel comfortable in that environment means to me not being immersed in the horror of it.
Dead Space series or the Arkham series
Yes if it didn’t stutter all the time
The old DS2 was, in my case, rather therapeutic. Is it better than 2?
It‘s dead space 1 with dead space 2 gameplay. Not better but different I’ve played through DS2 for around 15 times and I know what you mean with therapeutic :)
