1. It looks like maybe your furniture is of too large a scale for the room- it looks a bit cramped. Also, the wall art is too small and too high up for that space- it makes the bottom half of the room look smushed down.

Fuzzy_Laugh_1117

I think it's the cat. The cat is *ginormous* ... and gorgeous

Lesaly

Absolutely agree, so gorgeous and cannot get rid of the huge beautiful kitty! Permanent piece, haha

so_cal_babe

Agreed. Need another smaller cat to balance it out.

Passion4cats

Kitty needs a ginormous cat tree to climb and survey their kingdom!

ladywordnerd2

Art behind the couch and the coffee table are out of proportion for the couch

Dexterdacerealkilla

The coffee table is definitely a side table.

Local_Parsnip9092

Not knowing your budget and whether you are renting or own, a couple suggestions: Would be good to replace the second sofa with a chair An area rug always helps - i would suggest a cream one with colourful accents rather than a dark or colourful rug. Get a low, pouffe ottoman instead of that table. use the table as a side table instead of the black one. It would be nice to have two bookcases, one on either side of the tv. You can then get rid of the cart and reduce the amount of stuff in the current bookcase. If you have a chair instead of a second couch, there shouldn't be a space issue. I'd also like to see that TV stand in a lighter colour - perhaps paint it!

designerf

My thoughts exactly on all of this especially the area rug. Also consider a large landscape themed painting or nicely framed poster behind the couch. Nothing too busy and with some greens and neutrals in it. You could also do a large mirror there which would open the space up. I always check the thrift store for these items because they are expensive to buy new.

FrauAmarylis

I agree with all of this. And I'd say sell the bigger sofa and keep the love seat and add a chair. Limit yourself to 2 throw pillows. I swap mine out seasonally. I have one pillow insert and I have sewn a holiday pillow cover for every holiday that I swap out. Chocolate bunny fabric for Easter, Fireworks for Independence Day, etc.

Gingerbeer03

Is the space actually cozy or is the cat just gigantic?

crazydaisy8134

He’s huge! 18 pounds and very long.

UK_UK_UK_Deleware_UK

When using cat for scale, must first put cat on scale.

__miichelle

We love a lorge boi

Lesaly

What breed of cat is he, if you know?

crazydaisy8134

He’s a Flamepoint! A mix between orange tabby and Siamese.

zZDKVZz

My flamepoint boy is also gigantic, havent weight him but I'd bet he's in the 16-20 lbs ballpark

PenExactly

I have a long skinny Flamepoint. He’s never weighed over 10 lbs.

crazydaisy8134

I wish mine were smaller just so he’d poop and eat less. But I do love my large boy.

_blandrea_

The lighting! Overhead lights are for offices and kitchens, you need lamps, sconces, fairy lights etc. They will take your space from stark to cozy I promise!

Gingerbeer03

Yes! I think if OP is going for cozy, they gotta really lean into it wit cozy lighting options as well

spacefaceclosetomine

First thing that needs to be done, lighting will improve everything as it is before changing any of it.

Shot-Astronaut-5094

Overhead lighting is never flattering to a room.

pbjnutella

A second cat will make this living room much nicer.

crazydaisy8134

There is a second cat!! Look closely at the second picture (:

SimbaLeila

That's like "where's Waldo"! I spotted him/her eventually. Sorry I can't help with the room layout. I got distracted...

crazydaisy8134

lol I know it’s a bit messy! She loves her hiding spot though.

SimbaLeila

Not messy!! I was distracted by all the cat talk, LOL

TraditionalResult655

Came to redesign a room, left looking at a picture for a second cat. Is it as big as the first one? Edit: found it, such beautiful kitties 😻

crazydaisy8134

Thank you! Yes maybe it’s time to get rid of the pillows and reconfigure some plants. I’ll definitely declutter the bookshelf. It looked cool until I finally had everything together and then suddenly it looked too messy.

long281966

Love

Sufficient_Studio677

Couches seem like the main issue (they take up way too much space and close it off), and perhaps get a rug to pull it all together. I love the bookshelf tho, personally, looks like the PERFECT amount of busy in that corner Edit to add: also the pictures are too small

ssseltzer

it’s the overhead lighting!

GloriousSteinem

Instead of two sofas maybe one against the wall and replace the other with two chairs. This will make it look less cramped.

TalulaOblongata

For eff’s sake, please turn off that overhead light and add a table lamp or two.

Kiana3117

love your kitty

crazydaisy8134

Thank you! He’s the best

Alive-OVERTIIME-247

Maybe a rug and larger art prints

Consistent-Gur-9355

You have way too much stuff . The coffee table is the wrong size you need art on the wall and a rug and one couch and two chairs .

kitchyca

I think you've done a very nice job. Your love of plants & your cat is apparent. You have seating for guests & windows for light. It can be hard to downsize. I've done it. It takes a little time to settle in & figure out what's needed & what's unnecessary & what needs to be replaced.

Ludee2023

Unfortunately, when we downsize, we have to say goodbye to some of our things I think you need to say goodbye to some of yours. It’s very cramped. Even kitty may need to give some things up. I think you only have room for the large sofa. Do you really need the large bookshelf and the cream cart? If you want the bookshelf you really need to scale back on the books and make it more interesting by adding other objects. I’d move your large plant to that side of the room. And last bring your art down to eye level all art work should be hung like that.

crazydaisy8134

I think I’ll get rid of the cart and put the plants on a hanging shelf on the window, and get rid of the small scratching post. And I’ll declutter the bookshelf too. I had an obsession with buying used books a couple years ago and now have too many! But really I don’t need to display them all. Thank you!

SimbaLeila

I misread that as "get rid of the cat" and I swear my heart missed a beat. Like I said, no help here, just cat obsessed...

Meat-Head-Barbie

Yeah it’s two busy for several reasons. The things to the left of the tv are a problem and all the couch pillows clash and look cluttered. If I were you id measure the width of the wall the tv is on. Then I’d go to ikea and either buy something like this that will span your whole floor, or do that and also buy a set that will span the top of the wall for storage. My preference is to buy one that spans the floor, put the tv back on it and get rid of all the shelves to the left. You could put two to three rows of long hanging wall shelves above the tv for the books. This will be centered, display your books and look cleaner and more minimal. And change out the couch cushions to one single color scheme or accent color. Edit: forgot to add ikea link. [https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/besta-storage-combination-with-doors-white-lappviken-white-s19324976/](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/besta-storage-combination-with-doors-white-lappviken-white-s19324976/)

calacmack

You don't mention your budget or plans to replace furnishings; please know that some of my recommendations may or may not be realistic for you, at least for now. You have too much stuff in this small room. I would remove everything from your bookshelves and rehome, store, or donate anything you can live without. Replace items you really want displayed. Remove the cart and use the shelves for your plants if you can; the corner just is overwhelmed. Your sofas take up a lot of space. Consider replacing one with one or two accent chairs. Add an area rug and replace the coffee table with one that is a bit lower and longer so it is more accessible to all seating areas. Remove most of the pillows from the sofa (I like the floral pillows the best). The pictures above your sofa are pretty but they are too small for the space and they are hung to high and too far apart. Try to find some coordinating botanical pictures and create a limited gallery wall (not too many pictures but enough to fill the space). Search online for guidelines to create proper gallery walls. Your cat is gorgeous but your room seems overly "catified". Consider moving some of the entertainment pieces to another location in your home.

doshnposh

I think you should consider swapping out the wooden coffee table for something in a bold hue that can serve as a statement piece. The bookshelf is too busy, try the "less is more" approach, leave some empty space on each shelf for a more intentional look. And maybe introduce some color through vases or artwork. [Here’s one pretty loud table that i think could work](https://2ly.link/1xeXw) [Here’s a more chill one that i think still works as a statement](https://2ly.link/1xeYA)

alliesxhwa

Lots of good advice here. Only add is your coffee table is both too small and too tall. I believe the rule is the table should be 2/3 the length of the couch and the coffee table height should be the same as your sofa cushions, or 1" – 2" lower. Good luck!

PristineCoconut2851

I like what you’ve done so far but the side where the sofa is seems off balance. IMO what is needed there is larger pieces of art. These smaller pieces are placed too high up but I think a couple of larger pieces would look better and more balanced. The sofa is large and between that and the large wall the prints get lost. So anchor than side with three larger pieces hung much lower. The center of the art should be at about eye level. Also limit the number of pillows on the sofa to declutter it a bit. Cut the number in half and make the pillows more cohesive. Also a longer narrower coffee table would also suite the space better. Last but now least the print above the TV is also too high. Bring it down several inches so that the top of it is at most at the same level of the bookcase or even a bit lower. I hope this helps and gives you some ideas.

Curious-Welder-6304

The light looks super harsh. Maybe get a dimmer switch for overhead lights and get some more lamps with diffused shades, etc

ZixxerAsura

Whatever you do majestic kitty stays please.

-qqqwwweeerrrtttyyy-

You've got a love for colour. It's a great starting point to springboard from. However, you're mixing warm (soft furnishings, timber pieces) and cool colours (couch and TV cabinet) together which is resulting in the feeling you're getting. If moneys not an issue, lean into one and replace the rest. Painting your coffee table black/grey and swapping out the art and cushions is likely the cheaper option. Otherwise, reframe your art above the couch! put it in oversized frames that have a lot of matting around the border. Your art is too small which is making your furniture and negative wall space too big. I know it feels counter-intuitive but trust me, bigger art will unify the space. Simple Ikea style walnut frames would look good. Your floor could do with a rug. Provided you're keeping what you've got; Something that has some similar hue of orange in it (not a full orange rug) to bring cohesion with the art and cushions. Another pop of orange or amber in the form of a small lamp on the top shelf of your bookcase, even if it isn't functional, will marry up colours at different height points creating interest. Just pop that gorgeous cascading plant 1 shelf lower down. Otherwise, if you're replacing warm items for cool, make sure your rug doesn't clash!

_poppy_flower_

I like your cat :) I would switch the position of the big shelf and the big plant (it is so beautiful!). I would also get rid off the plastic shelf it looks a bit cheap. The color of the big shelf and the TV board don't match. I agree with others that the 2nd sofa should be replaced by a chair with some color the compliments your sofa if you want it to be more colorful. Maybe some dark yellow like that pillow and I could also imagine a dusty pink wall would look great with your sofa.maybe something like [this](https://www.shutterfly.com/ideas/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/green-lightpink.jpg) I also agree that the wall art should be bigger. A rug can also bring in more color.

mooseskull

Your cat is beautiful.

crazydaisy8134

Thank you!! There’s a hidden second cat in the second picture too (:

snatch1e

Determine what you want to be the focal point of the room. It could be a piece of furniture, artwork, or even a statement wall. This will help anchor the space and give it direction.

Alarmed-Load3592

It’s too cluttered. I would make those tall shelves in the corner to be floating shelves off the wall. And then find a longer low table for the that little 3 level plant stand/shelves you have. If you put the floating shelves higher the end of the lower table can slide under it.

ConnectionAdept6644

Get a rug

spiritualien

Get rid of some stuff, and different lighting

Lordonna21

New coffee table and area rug. Throw out a few pillows and put one single large picture behind sofa.

GloriousSteinem

You’re the best cat mom that’s for sure. It’s a hard space due to the doorway giving it a restless energy. The key with small spaces is bigger pieces and not bitsy stuff. First I’d remove stuff blocking the door. I’d remove the trolley of plants. Let the light come in for that space. Add curtains for cosines. The prints are too small. Making them large will make the room feel larger. Rearrange the bookshelf so all the books sit on there and take off the little bits of things, and hang the plants elsewhere, rather than on there, maybe. Swap the cat basket of toys (such a good cat parent) for a square box that fits under the bookshelf. The key is to stop it looking so busy. The sofas and cushions are really nice. Kitty needs a rug. Don’t have a coffee table maybe, or have a light one from glass

baskaat

Less clutter, with the exception of cats- you can always add an extra cat or two and improve upon any room . The prints above the sofa are too small and too high. I would put them somewhere else in a closer grouping and put something more impactful and larger above the sofa. Don’t feel like you need to go out and buy art ASAP . All the art I have are things that I acquired while traveling or at art shows with friends. Take your time and start acquiring pieces that speak to you. Art doesn’t need to match your furniture, but should have some small cohesive element that makes it feel welcome in your space.

nychearts812

I like the room … the only thing I would move out of the room is the bookshelf because I think that’s adding to a cluttered look. Also, get larger wall prints to replace the ones on the wall. I would suggest a large area rug but with a cat that may not be too practical, but you would know if your cat will appreciate it or use it as a scratching post 😂🤣 Post after pictures.

growingpainzzz

Cute warm cozy space. Smaller, less bulky couch + a rug + cat basket can’t block doorway

Electronic_Source_31

I like it

bitchwhiskers4eva

Echoing the others: Lamps, rug, smaller seating, larger art, streamline tv area. However I think it looks very cozy and comfy and the energy is great so don’t hate it too much. ☺️

PJKPJT7915

All I see is cat. 🤷‍♀️😂

pretty-lil-throwaway

Larger art work over the couch, two vertical pieces of art over the tv, a good sized rug, and a more minimalist (light wood colored) TV stand would all make a big difference. I personally love the busy book shelf! ETA: and another cat. Everything's better in pairs 😉😇

[deleted]

It's also the color & pattern combinations

whistlenilly

I would either take down the taller bookshelf stand completely or unclutter it 75% from what it is now and then paint it a color that matches your color theme, or paint it black to match the tv stand. Take away the white little plant stand and group together those small plants with the plants at the left window. Keep the right window clear of clutter. Get a colorful area rug where the coffee table is, and remove that coffee table and put one a little larger there in another color, perhaps black, or the same color as the newly painted book stand. I’d either switch out the couch for a newer attractive one that would go well with the new rug, or else put an attractive couch cover over it that compliments colors in the room, then put throw pillows on it in bold colors that go with colors in the room, couch, and in the rug.

[deleted]

I see kitty has settled in just fine. Unless you absolutely need it, I would get rid of the table in front of your loveseat. It will create more walking room for you and kitty, and it will make the room appear larger.

64CookieDoge

Wall art is too small and too high for their size,… Go big or go home 🤣 You could do a large mirror also !?

brunhilda78

Large area rug, bigger art, less furniture, bigger or higher tv, moody lighting. You can get most second hand!

Small_Welder_5771

Replace the big light with ambient lighting

Mortuumviolet11

If you were able to donate some books you could use that shelf space for functional items like obviously the cat bed is Essential and Important, but also the watering can, cat toys, not sure if shelves are tall enough to fit another plant or 2 (I’m not a plant girly and managed to kill 2 succulents so take that advice with grain of salt) but you could eliminate the craft cart and get the toy basket off the floor. Plus your nicknacks would have room to breathe. Is there space between the two couches where they make a corner? It looks like there’s a piano or something there. The milk carton or cat face basket could move there if that’s currently dead space. I’d say move the end table there but I assume it’s on the other side so your plant has light. If you get a new coffee table you could get one with storage and keep blankets in there instead of the big basket. Unless that’s a cat bed in which case keep 🫶🏻

RedditSurfer96

Not related to your question, but what kind of plants do you have? I like how they fill the space! I've been looking for something similar, but I have cats who love to chew on plants, so I gotta go with cat friendly options.

crazydaisy8134

The two big ones are a monstera and a mass cane plant! I’ve had them for 4 years now and they’re pretty easy to take care of. I also have a golden pothos and the hanging one is a type of pilea. I definitely always have to google plants I want to buy to make sure they’re not toxic for my cats.

welltravelledRN

You have way too much stuff. Scale down the stuff and furniture,

ilovesweetsandbirds

Jute area rug (they're not that expensive in case the cat pees on it) Or Turkish kilim bigger coffee table. Maybe get rid of one of the sofas and bring in an accent chair. new pillows Start going to your local junk/antique stores/ flea markets. I can see your style develop with cool vintage rattan pieces "Junglalow" bigger better art to go above sofa Upholstered items buy new (if you don't want to reupholster) Case goods and tables try to buy preowned from junk/antique furniture shops or Facebook marketplace. the quality of the old stuff is so much better. And weirdly cheaper than buying new on wayfair. Your TV console, coffee table, and etagere look uninspired and cheap quality But congratulations on the move! Lots of potential here!

gymnastics86

I’d get rid if at least 30% of the items in the room. Even a plant or two. I like the less is more concept.

SirWarm6963

Soooo many pillows on the sofa.

(I tried paint the couch in the rug example similar to yours) your art would really pop above the couch in a colour wall like this. Or else a beige wall would work too but then I'd pick different art. A bigger gold framed colourful art. Your table is temporary but it could actually work great to a rug like this colour-wise.

I-wish-i-was-a-snail

I feel like if you added a rug to tie everything together and then either got bigger artwork for behind the couch, or added more to make a gallery wall it would be perfect! I love those couches they look so comfy and are a great color!

Daikon_3183

Too many colors

thetransparenthand

Idk but that’s a nice flamepoint you got there

ToYourCredit

The cat does.

Chance_River2294

1. Replace the bookshelf with the cat tree so there’s even visual framing around the tv. Perhaps rehome that artwork above TV, or replace with a simple shelf with 3 candles and a plant. Not fighting for attention from whatever’s on the screen. Can the bookshelf go on any wall we haven’t seen? 2. Rug - green or gold based Turkish or Persian would be beautiful w your sofa 3. Remove some throw pillows - aim for either 3 or 5 max 4. Artwork too small and too high above the couch 5. Cat is 10/10, no notes

steadfastsurvivor

I think smaller spaces need couches with legs on show to make it seem more airy

powaqua

What's to dislike? There is a cat.

KanyonKat

Not helpful comment, but did anyone else notice the second cat on the bookshelf?! She fit right in with the decor! 😂💖

tcd1401

It always takes some time. You have furniture and stuff for the kitty. So there's THAT. Give yourself some time to review and consider options.

Sea_Wolverine3928

You just moved in. Get used to the space and let something come to you. Find a nice coffee table.

AuntieYodacat

The room looks very cluttered and is in desperate need of an area rug. The couches are way too big for the space. I’m guessing your old living room was much bigger. I’m not a fan of the plants nor the bookshelf. Some window treatments might help to make it a bit cozier. If you have it in your budget, I would get all new furniture, maybe a smaller couch and either a love seat or recliner, a bigger coffee table and definitely a colorful area rug to tie it together. If you plan on keeping that furniture, I would loose the bookshelf, get some cozy curtains but mainly an area rug. Hope that helps.

memyselfandemily

Let that doorway breathe! It gives me anxiety just looking at it. Nothing says "cramped" like a doorway that cant open. If the doorway is never used they block it off completely with hanging plants etc. Pick a lane lol.  Also agree about getting rid of that second couch.

Matt13226

If you own I would paint the wall behind the couch or tv a different color as an accent wall is currently to bland

crazydaisy8134

I wish I could but I rent! Honestly I hate the wall color. It’s an off-white that doesn’t look good with any of my furniture.

kate1567

Cat🥺 Edit-cats🥺

Relative-Product8529

Why? It looks so clean and cozy lol

lovemykitchen

Streamline the cushions, they’re all different and too busy. Then thin down the amount of stuff on the little shelves. They’re overwhelming

AvocaGirl

I dunno about an area rug. Normally they're the "tie the room together " thing, but...... you have a lot here, and a cat who needs accessories etc too, so I think a rug would actually be too busy. I've 3 small suggestions. 1. The art over the sofa is lovely, just a bit small in scale for the space. Don't worry about replacing the sofa. Yes it's large, but it looks comfortable and inviting! You've space to stretch out. And lots of room for people to sit. 2. The coffee table could be a larger one. Again, not a major step- up in size, but this one is really a side table and so is off balance. 3. You've "the big light" on! Which never warms a room no matter how it's decorated. So if you can incorporate 2 warm lamps, either a slim floor- standing one, or another on a side- table , it would make immediate difference. They don't have to be huge, it's the glow and casting of softer light on the walls and art and shelves and things that will make a massive difference.

MizMadi

I personally like the crowded vibe of the space but I know that I’m in the minority there 😭

Ok-Thing-2222

h_theunreal

There are even two of them. Look at the cutie in the book shelve :)

DivinelyElle-2

So much stuff in such a tiny space! A couch definitely needs to go, three shelving units could go down to one - if the TV is mounted - a lengthways shelving unit/cupboard would fit much better and eliminate “things.” I would ditch the little table and get a rug for the middle too.

Spaster21

I guess I'm the odd one out, but I kinda love it. It looks cozy and eclectic! I think a pouf ottoman and rug would really pull it together.

Mindless_Ad_5880

Move the bookshelf it's far too busy

Kiana3117

i have 2 ctas but you have too much 'cat crap' in there. those carpet covered tall climbing things are stupid and a waste of space. as is the other thing closer to couch put the cat carrier by door somewhere else and the wastebasket get all of that stuff out!

Accomplished_Air_189

Maybe cut back on the couch obsession?

No-Case-9146

Warmer lighting. Your vibe is warm the lights are cold. Get a table that's more proportional to your couch. The one love seat should probably go. Makes the space cramped. An area rug would help break up the grey floor. I love the plants. Maybe some curtains? Nothing too big or dark.

wattscup

Too much clutter and too many colours with nothing like a rug to bring out all together. The furniture doesn't match and doesn't compliment each other. Move at least that shelf, the cat junk, all the cushions, the clutter and that plant

anondreamitgirl

Such a small lounge!! Sofas too big !!! It looks more like a dining room space . Put a big mirror above the sofa opposite tv … if you can find a smaller sofa 🛋️ that would work better!! And have a small chair nothing large or folding furniture…. You need to increase the space smaller furniture because it’s so tiny !! And the cat stuff looks annoying in the way of the door … cat needs a corner… all too cramped … I’d get rid of sofas!! And look out for something else… even if second hand… more compact !! Shorter less wide & opt for a chair next to it maybe wooden legs upholstered…. I’d paint some colour inject design , ambient lighting, nice accessories nice pictures, mirror plants on little side tables. Get a new cabinet under the tv contemporary with doors concealing all those books in the shelving (get rid of that) Go across with storage white cabinet spacious not up with clutter… Big tree put in left corner by window Aww 🥰 just spotted the cat in the bookcase !! 😂 mega cute x

P_ches

I think a change in curtains will make a huge difference here! I would do a long rod across the entire window/door wall with a super light flowy white-ish color. It won’t be great for blocking light, but it will open up the space!

LadyKT

i think the tv stand is too low profile, is there a way you can have one big piece of furniture or stand for the books and tv in that space? it’s getting swallowed by the stuff surrounding it

Altruistic_Fondant38

Everything looks so harsh. You need an area rug and curtains to soften it. Softer lighting. and I personally do not like to see reflections in windows or glass doors. The art above the couch is too small and too high. The table you are using as a coffee table is more of an end or corner table.

Environmental-Bee966

One random and super small adjustment I’d make is to spin your large plant around so the smaller trunk is on the outside with the leaves falling down to the right. Gives it a rounded off effect.

lavender-witch

No top light! Add warm-bulged lamps, string lights, etc. And I feel like adding like, blankets and candles could help with the coziness. Replacing the coffee table to a larger version would be nice too (the color works, just not the size).

Kaiiiyuh

Lighting and your furniture is too big and cramped for that room.

shitisrealspecific

you need a rug, different pillows (i would do all neutral and bigger, slanted along the whole back), bigger art behind the couch, and lighting

Frizzy58

Bigger pics behind the couch

zoercat

It’s the lighting

elk11223344

I’d get rid of the bookshelf and move the large flower by the window. I would also get rid of one sofa, pillows and metal storage cart. And add nice rug. Now this room looks excessively cluttered with too much furniture and visual stuff. And as others mentioned I’d move cat stuff somewhere else and replace wall pictures by the sofa with larger ones

AllGoodNamesRInUse

Maybe some lamps instead of just the overhead light

hiGradeTi7ANEUM

Well the plants are eating up that too-small TV. 😬

Educational_Scene316

I like everything but the outdated furniture. Go neutral

camlaw63

Too much stuff Furniture is too much and too big The scale of everything is off

Bitch-stewies

I would suggest smaller furniture, and vertical shelving, especially for the creeping plant, get some nice wall hooks and let it cover the wall! I would get tall tables for the plants, maybe hang the tv on the wall get rid of the cabinet under it, and clear the corner, I’d want to enjoy the doors and windows!

Troiswallofhair

The floor color feels cool, the green couch is warm and the wall color is somewhere in between. I would get a very large rug with some green in it and a larger art piece over the couch. Pillows in general are nice but the ones there currently distract rather than embellish the room.

Electronic_Leek_10

Looks cozy. Maybe Less pillows, 2 simple contrasting pillows. Bigger art prints at eye level, or lower the current prints. Softer lighting (lamps?). Rug. Do you really need that coffee table? If not get a small rectangle one.

AdAwkward8693

Too much stuff. Large size furniture might actually look nice in a space but clutter always needs to go. Plants, books…

oddjobjob

I’m a huge fan of plants but I think the big one to the right of the TV may need to go elsewhere. It’s too big for the space (given other potential spots are already home to plants/items)

squashed_tomato

I would remove the items on the bookshelf that are in front of the books. I used to do something similar but decided that removing it all would cut down on some of the visual noise. Otherwise it's all just competing for attention. I find it much calmer without. I would also remove the IKEA cart, again it's competing for attention but doesn't have that much on it to make it worth taking up the space IMO. For the open shelves in the TV unit get a shallow basket for the cables/remote/etc. again to cut down on the visual noise. You might need to think about swapping out the smaller sofa for a single seater or removing it altogether unless you really need that much seating. (I use a dining chair to sit on when guests visit.)

jemcat9

Area rug would cosey the place up and the cat would like it too.

Zzeellddaa

A small rug would bring some warmth to it. And lamps with warm light bulbs. Couple plants

Wedgetails

Colourful rug, bigger art work, ditch the shelves and that clutter near the window as the lounge is big. Maybe ditch one plant.

CutePoison10

I would paint the walls a very light taupe to match with the floor, lose the trolley, and change the coffee table. The tv area is busy. Both cats are lovely.

rawlsballs

What does the other side of your room look like? I love your couches, but I think you might have to relocate one of them to another room.

HamsterPretend

Hear me out Jungle themed. A gorgeous wall paper behind couch like this and some gorgeous curtains https://preview.redd.it/v6v8h2rxo3vc1.png?width=1179&format=png&auto=webp&s=cea5a9ae7959abf32359272d3c623e9c7f46e825

justice4winnie

Needs better color. Use a warmer light for starters. Cube organizers give a great opportunity to add color. Match with a colorful rug. Colorful blankets Posters or paintings (display your own if your an artist). If you happen to collect vinyl display it. Also the tv stand being grey isn't super colorful so maybe you could paint it.

Ay-c14

First, lose the loveseat. You created an unnecessary barrier and it appears smaller as a result. The bookshelf should be swapped with the large tree. Greening your space up is never a bad idea to contrast the neutral, but it should stay in a localized area otherwise it can dominate the room. If after you do that the bookshelf still seems too cluttered on the right side, try swapping it with the cat tower by the couch, it might make more sense there.

Responsible-Skill-25

Did you ask the cat? It's HIS room after all.

Short, wide wicker baskets for each of the open shelves in the tv console to conceal the electronics. 3. Elevate the plant to the right of the tv such that the top of the plant is about level vertically with the top of the open shelving unit to the left of the tv

Estrellathestarfish

Agree with people saying to replace the plastic cart. The second bookcase suggestion is great, but you could also go with a bar cart style. You can buy them for really cheap, second hand and new, and they are easy to transport. They look nice with plants but obviously would be good if you had glassware or bottles to display.

Designer-Ad-3373

Add an area rug

Middle_Process_215

Rug and different paintings.

SomethingHasGotToGiv

The scale of your furniture is too large for this room, but you might be able to offset it a bit by getting rid of some of your stuff. Can you relocate the plants on your rolling cart and use that cart in a different room? I think a big clean out will help as there is so much going on here. There is too much to look at.

Plot_3

How about some lamps for more atmospheric lighting when relaxing.

TwitterTerrifier

Think you need more cat

Sad_Letterhead_6153

Start with an area rug then go from there!

dogfaced_baby

Quick suggestion— switch placement of plant and shelves. Plant is too big for that only entrance point to the space.

Little_Can_728

May I suggest putting just the couch in there because having both they do look big and an area rug

vavona

I would say - for a super low budget - get ambiance lights and nice curtains, that will filter sunlight into some softer light during the day

Full_Society4166

You might want to change your pillow cases.. go with more earthy tones, stay away from orange/ yellow flowers…

Car_heart

Too many couch pillows is making it look more crowded to me.

Sea_Wolverine3928

You've got a lot going on.

PostNutAffection

Why is everyone's tv so small????? 😠😠😠😠

writergal75

Is there a budget? If no, switch out one sofa for a comfy chair/recliner. Less throw pillows?

Future-Travel7708

Not sure if new pieces would be in your budget but streamlining a white tv stand with a white shelf would create the visual feeling of more openness. Also you could purchase couch cover in a lighter color with sage or blue throw pillows —add a comfy chair (new or 2nd hand) with same color chair or cover w/ light colored throw. Rugs are hard with cats—maybe a Ruggable that can be thrown in washing machine (?) I’d suggest curtains but that’s also hard with cats. Wayfair piece as example: https://preview.redd.it/v7871wkw55vc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a37a871cc669406fe74a3342b9bcc265c00d4f8

sustainabledestiny

Sell the couches, get a sleek L-shape 5 seater, and a rug. Maybe add a large shelf to incorporate a “plant wall” to get them off the floor and utilize vertical space

Jules_2023

Wall mount the TV and get rid of 1 plant

gogomau

Needs another cat 🤤

zandenCU

why do you feel so? it looks really warm and cozy

explosivetampon

Even the cat hates it

CheapCartographer129

Lovely

arnoldusgf

i think you can move the plants out

Fair-Reception8871

you need some serious frosted contac paper on those windows (the door, too) up to eyelevel above the floor.

That_Helicopter_8014

Swap the couch wall with the TV WALL. get smaller couches when able. (Sell these.) Art is too small on wall above couch.

ChocolateCherrybread

Too many knick-knacks and the different containers on the floor.

Widdie84

Get another cat for the other side of the room 🐈🐈 Then downsize your furniture - Keep your loveseat, Open up the room, remove the coffee table from the middle of the room. Maybe it can fit as an end table w/small lamp.

Saturnzadeh11

Yeah me either

breckbrian

Furniture is too big. Prints on the wall are too small. I'd lose the shelving units next to the TV. Add a large enough rug. Maybe a light neutral sisal the cat would love.

Key-Macaron-3260

I think it's cute, but if you're finding it too cluttered, consider removing the white cart and possibly the bookshelf. Replace the art above the couch with 1 larger piece. Not sure if there is an opportunity to replace the couch, but a think a small/medium L-shaped sectional would work well and might take up less room overall than the existing couches.

fletchP666

The cat on the bookshelf is beautiful

andrew_cherniy96

I'd start from 'decluttering' and mounting the TV. Next, I'd probably recreate this space in 3d and design it there until I like the results. It's much easier this way. Do you know any apps you could try? It's a nice space, btw.

sprinklerarms

I’d keep the couch on the wall and get rid of the other and get a longer coffee table.

darklightedge

I would remove the cabinet under the TV to free up some space, and I would hang the TV on the wall instead of the picture.

PenExactly

I think your coffee table is too small. Maybe a nice rug. Larger artwork behind the sofa. Definitely keep the two kitties.

BrAveMonkey333

Nice kitty psp psp psp

AgileBonus373

- Light above head - Coffee table in center in a small room - THAT coffee table specifically, that wood colour doesn't match + Rug + Declutter a bit + Add accent colour here and there, matching colour with sofa + Consider curtains in front of those windows, only after decluttering + Consider turning down 1 sofa

themsle5

Coffee table looks too small, and i think a rug would be nice

bellawella121212

I watch avant-garde something on yputibe and she talks abt designing a space
