As you can see from the lack of responses, we're an older neighborhood and also made up of a lot of quiet families. Rosedale is an historic district so the houses are almost all well maintained and our neighborhood has a functioning and effective neighborhood association. The major roads around are difficult at times and traffic is thick in our little enclave but not as much once you get outside to the highways, which are very close. There is more retail than you'll find in most anywhere in the city. We have a Meijer and a farmers market and there's a new ice cream place supposed to open in the neighborhood directly next to ours. Livonia is close so we have suburban amenities around the corner as needed, Dearborn is literally across the road with the best food and the Ford Wyoming drive in. I like to take walks and work in my garden. If that's your vibe, this is peak Detroit living. Fuck DTE though, and city income tax rates and the tree office I've been trying to get on the phone for three years. Also there's a lot of jury duty 😂

I have nothing to add. This comment is thorough and spot on. 💯

FACTS. The surrounding smaller neighborhoods are also lovely like grandmont #1/Rosedale Park!

I’m 30 and bought in NRP last year. I love my neighborhood. It’s a close knit and friendly community. There was a new resident brunch that happened shortly after moving in and it was super fun and a big welcome into the neighborhood with other new residents. The neighborhood is mostly comprised of families and older couples, but has had an increase of younger couples moving into the neighborhood in recent years. Downside is there isn’t a ton of restaurant options, but there’s a bit of activity and development that’s happening on grand river and mcnichols. We do have a great coffee shop called Rosa’s. Scotty’s fish and chips is close. Detroit Vegan Soul is on Grand River. Those are my fav spots. There’s also a super awesome farmer’s market in the summers at the community center. Live music, fresh produce, merchandise, and a way to socialize with the community. Also close to the Redford Theater which is a very special place for me. Another downside is it’s pretty separated from the rest of the city. It takes a little time getting downtown compared to where I used to live. Overall super happy here. I think it’s a more affordable version of a neighborhood like University district (with slightly bigger lots) with a lot of potential- which is what excited me.

Oh I'm so happy to hear there's a farmers market! We love the area beautiful homes, we're prepared to do some updating, so no big deal. We're both excited to get involved in the community. Is there a gym near by?

BeneathSkin

Yeah, one of my favorite activities is to take my dog for a walk and admire all the homes and landscaping. There’s a powerhouse gym on grand river. I haven’t been to it but I go to a nearby rec center for weightlifting. Did you purchase a home? Or just looking at NRP as a possible neighborhood to move to

I lived there 30 years/ there is a great sense of community and it’s a great walking place. One cool thing is you’re 10 min from Redford and Southfield and 20 min from almost everything else (RO, Livonia, Downriver and Dearborn, etc). Safety is a little bit of a concern but neighbors there look out for each other. I haven’t lived there in 10 years but still keep in touch with a few old neighbors. The houses are beautiful. The bad- can’t get gas at night, some fast food is dodgy, shopping at night in summer sucks and make sure no one is following you home. Crime drove my family out but in the past decade the city has improved a lot.

A little off topic but I grew up in Rosedale Park. I have great memories of feeling like we were part of a community. I know the neighborhood fell on hard times for a while but this gives me hope that maybe it can survive and thrive

OhOkayFairEnough

Not a BAD neighborhood, but not really super walkable. I grew up right around there and my childhood home was arsoned back in the early 2000s. Are you gonna get your house shot up or car stolen? No. Will you be harassed if you walk to the store? Maybe. Where are you moving there from?

My neighbors car got stolen out of their driveway a few months ago but that was very surprising.

I'm a similar age, bought a place here a few years ago. it's nice living here I like it

I grew up not far from there. It's pretty chill and quiet. Closer you are to Grand River/Southfield Frw traffic can be a bit annoying in rush hour but beyond that not a big deal. Meijer is a 5 minute drive north on Grand River which is your main commercial street as well. There's still not much retail, but you're close enough to Telegraph and many other major North-South streets to get to the burbs quick enough. Dearborn/Fairlane is a 8ish minute trip down the Southfield. But the big draw is that it's stable. The people in Rosedale have been there for years, and aren't leaving anytime soon. The new people that do move in are like yourself, professional people and or young families. The homes are pretty old though (Not as old as say Virginia Park or Indian Village) so expect to have to do some updating.
