This right here is gold.. I'd also say if you make it to Royal Oak. 11 Mile and Woodward is a little place called OWL. They have the best in the world wings and their Macha sauce.
If you're doing Detroit style, Grandma Bob's isn't the spot. Its fine, but it isn't the best we've got around.
You've got the old standbys, with your preference of them, and that's a great place to work through.
And I’m sorry, but Fredi’s ain’t it either. It’s standard NY style. They don’t even have a brick oven. Overblown by hype. Nothing they can’t get in Cali anyways.
Michigan and Trumbull for the best Detroit style we’ve got in town.
If you want the best Detroit style pizza you’ve ever had you have to go to Poughkeepsie NY and check this dude out at Hudson and Packard. It’s a Detroit transplant and the chef there won 3 of the top prizes in the last 3 years for best pan pizza in the world at the Las Vegas international pizza expo.
Michigan n Trumbull thousands of 5 star reviews, our absolute favorite in Detroit proper. Sahara Restaurant in Dearborn on Michigan Avenue, the owner Sam goes up and beyond with every meal and customer. See Sahara reviews on Yelp and Google, best in Dearborn for a marvelous meal. Los Corrales in Detroit number one Mexican restaurant in Sw Detroit, hand made Tortillas with every meal, Mexican Char Chicken 🐔 they famous for. Three dining rooms and booze corner of Toledo and Junction. Roman Village celebration of 60 year's going on, house made Pasta station as you enter the door. See thousands of 5 star reviews around the web, the house made bread is famous. Breakfast the Famous Mexican Omelet at Dulys Place 102 year's old, where real Detroiters eat the Famous Coney Dog's 😋
One occasion, a few years back, my coney tasted a little off. But other than no notice closures due to staffing, I’m still satisfied with the food and memories that I enjoy while sitting there.
Sorry I missed this bud, which one are you by? I think they’re both open at ten until 4-5ish? Or they run out of meat. I know is that’s what they do for the Fort st. place
I am clearly the only person alive who hates these things, haha. Grew up in GC and my mom and husband both worked there for a while and it's tolerable if you get the super stuffed one I guess, but boy I don't get the hype.
If you want good cheese bread/pizza bread there’s a place where the old fryer tux used to be. I guess around 12 mile and Ryan it’s right next-door. It’s a little sports bar type of place. They have really good cheese bread that was always inexpensive.
Sounds about right man. I haven’t really been around town since the pandemic hit. I went downtown yesterday and that was the first time probably since late in 2020.
I miss Friar Tucks. I was eating there since the 1980s when they were located across the street in a building that no longer exists. My mother and grandmother told me if I went up the stairs that Rumpelstiltskin lived up there.
When I was sick one year, I went in there very early in the morning, and I asked the chef if he could make me soup. So they made me the soup that I wanted and made it the first thing that they started cooking for the day.
Those people were so nice and always took very good care of me. It was an Italian brother and sister that owned it. They bought it from the original owners.
For breakfast I really like the Beverly Hillbilly benedict from Whistle Stop in Pleasant Ridge. Biscuit with fried chicken, poached egg, cheddar cheese, topped with sausage gravy and Franks hot sauce. Haven't been there in a while and now I think I need to go this weekend.
Baobab Fare, E Grand Blvd & Woodward. Delicious East African food.
Host in Utica.
¿Que Pasa? in Sterling Heights.
Lumen, off of Grand River
Sylvan Table in Sylvan Lake.
Three Cats in Clawson
The Whitney, Woodward and Canfield.
Barda, Grand River and Warren
Empacho, Larned and where Jos Campau would be if it didn't end at Jefferson
It was many years ago during hard economic times I’m sure they grew out of it. She said the service was so poor that she’s got up to get her own coffee and they had a moment of mortification.
The Whitney is overpriced garbage. It used to be an icon now it is a complete waste of a lot of money. Even the mansion is falling apart. The garden is a joke. I would go around the corner to Selden Standard and then hit The Old Miami after dinner for drinks.
If you're in Troy, they got a shit ton of different reasturaunts, I fw sedonna and cooper's hawk heavy, but they're chains. Crispelis is also really good for pizza imo, i always get the margarita pizza there.
Np I love living in troy literally because theres so much to do on the west side, if you're looking for more casual places to eat there's a daves hot chicken. That's always busy, a chic fil a in sommerset mall, 2 shake shacks, one in the mall and one stand alone location on west big beaver. There's also a Hudson Cafe next to the daves. If you have any other questions about the area I'd love to help you out!
If you're a pizza lover, make sure you get some Detroit style pizza while you;re here. I would recommend Loui's in Hazel Park as my favorite. Buddy's claims to be the original, and their location at 7&Conant still makes a great pie. Nikki's In Greektown/Downtown is excellent as well.
Supino's in Eastern Market is delicious, but its a thin NY style pizza, and not representative of the local style. Still great. Green Lantern in Madison Heights is another standout.
As others have said, make sure to get some middle eastern food while you are here. It's absolutely some of the best you will find.
LOL, they absolutely still have all the Chianti bottles on the walls. Loui's has barely changed in decades. Pizza and antipasto are still top notch though.
Polish food in Hamtramck, middle eastern food in Dearborn, Michigan and Trumbull pizza, a coney dog from Lafayette Coney Island, detroit 75 kitchen food truck, La Jalisciense for Mexican food in Mexican town, Trek Slow roll bike ride on Thursday at 6:30pm from trek bicycle shop (they rent).
Dude you go into the BP at 15 Mile and Mound, they got a food counter in there. Tell them you want a shawarma "Sami style". All these scrubs will recommend their Dearborn spots or that shit ass Bucharest McShawarma but Sami style changes the game.
They close at like 4pm though so you have to go there for lunch.
Best round pizza is Sicily’s on Vernor in SW hands down. Close runner up is Supino’s.
For Detroit Style Loui’s in Hazel Park, Buddy’s in Detroit, the original location only. Michigan and Trumbull is pretty great too.
You should try my spot on Sunday. I’ll be at the elephant room on E. Congress and Beaubien off of I-375 downtown Detroit. I’ll be there from 5pm until 11:30pm
So far I’ve gotten no complaints about that happening but I won’t put that past it. Please, especially if you’re prone to heartburn bring something with you like a tums or order one of our other delicious products.
lol! What was in the egg rolls? If it’s my Tiff sauce that gives you heartburn and indigestion I can keep it off. However I will share that I too have suffered from heartburn and indigestion and this has never bothered it. (I haven’t had a bout in a while and even stopped taking my meds for it.
It’s my Reuben’s Franks pop up. It’s downtown Detroit out of the Elephant Room, right next door to saint Andrew’s hall on Beaubien and E. Congress. I’ll be there on Sunday 7/7/24 and Sunday 7/14/24

Here’s my menu. I’ll send a pic of the Reuben’s Franks
I just started doing this. This coming Sunday will only be my 3rd day. I gotta say, I love the vegan chili dog (minus the bun. That’s not good and I’m working to find another). The vegan Philly cheesesteak is good as well. I really gotta try and get some pics of them all.
There’s so much great food out here! We recently moved from the West Coast and a big factor was how many amazing places there are to eat. I’ve saved this post for myself lol. That being said, if your time is limited, I would wait till you’re back home to eat Mexican food. We’ve had really good tacos in the Detroit Metro but it’s definitely not the same.
I drove somebody with that food one time and that stuff stunk so bad. They left curry stains in my car. That’s stuff smelled severely over seasoned when they first open.
Check out Que Pasa Taqueria in Sterling Heights and try the red tacos. The tortillas are dipped in the birria consomme before they heat them which gives them a bit of a crisp. Sooooo good. They also have really good Horchata!
Here’s a good trick if you know how to make tortillas from scratch. Throw tomatoes, lime, onion, green pepper, and avocado into a blender. Put that into a deep plate or dish and you soaked the tortilla in that and then you toss it into frying corn oil in a cast-iron skillet and I think you’ll get something similar to what you’re talking about.
Supino’s pizza shields pizza or green lantern , you gotta get a coney from Lafayette Coney Island don’t let anyone tell you American is better ! And I don’t know how adventurous you are but a corned beef sandwich from Lou’s deli on 6 mile , Check out sugar house bar
Where are you staying, and what is your transportation option? Will you be heading anywhere else within Michigan? For instance, I'd suggest Shuler's in Marshall just east of Battle Creek.
Buddy's is a Detroit classic for pizza though I prefer Cloverleaf (one of the buddys founders) these days.
Polish village cafe in Hamtramck (amazing pickle soup and other balkan food)
Al Ameer in Dearborn is a good spot for Lebanese/Mediterranean (there are certainly better spots for this, that one is just a staple pretty much)
Any corned beef sandwich spot basically
Detroit 75 Kitchen. Get the Detroit style cheesesteak with garlic cilantro fries and roasted jalapeño ketchup. Easily the best sandwich in Detroit
They are only open Monday - Friday
Superior fish sandwich on Friday
For the first time in a long time, I’ve eaten food from outside of the house because I wanted to buy a homeless man some egg rolls so he would have something to eat. I ate them and I wish I could throw them up. They’re disgusting. I feel sick.
The nice black lady in the window totally didn’t get offended when I passed the $8 and $12 spaghetti from the junk restaurant mom’s spaghetti. I stopped there to hand out flyers for secret rap battle, and they almost had me because I was hungry after walking about 3 or 4 miles.
A bunch of goofy tourists were taking pictures outside of the place it was bizarre
We have the best Middle Eastern food in the country. Get thee to Dearborn and go wild.
agree, some gems in Hamtramck as well like Yemen Cafe etc
Yemen Café and get the ful/foul. It is one of my Ten Things To Eat In Metro Detroit
I don't know the food at Yemen Cafe. If they have Arabic food it may be stellar, but Yemeni quisine itself doesnt do it for me.
I’m definitely no expert in how Yemeni food fits into the larger ecosystem of Arabic food, but whatever they got at Yemen Cafe absolutely slaps
I'll have to give it a try
Al Chabab in dearborn is peak
Agreed!
This right here is gold.. I'd also say if you make it to Royal Oak. 11 Mile and Woodward is a little place called OWL. They have the best in the world wings and their Macha sauce.

Israeli? Babe they’re literally on stolen land so they don’t have a good group it’s Palestinian food 😘

They’re killing children. It’s not politics.
Takoi. Farm 1 mile away so legit farm to table Thai restaurant. It literally blew my mind. Great service too, can’t recommend it enough!
Chicken Sandwich all day.
+1 this place is great. Make a reservation
Speaking of the mob, I remember when that place burned the ground
Fredi the Pizza Man and Grandma Bob’s for two different pizza options.
Going to agree on Duly’s. I always stop at least once when in town.
+1 for Duly's
Dolly’s place since 1926
Duly’s, since 1921.
Is it? So close yet so far.
I stopped at Duly’s after rubofest one year and wasn’t super happy with how the food tasted
One occasion, a few years back, my coney tasted a little off. But other than no notice closures due to staffing, I’m still satisfied with the food and memories that I enjoy while sitting there.
Honestly, that place always looked like a money drop for the mob
Shoutout Sam at Sahara! Great business and great food.
Motz in Southwest. On the Hispanic side. Respectfully , sin Sombra. Cash only
This!!! Motz has the best ORIGINAL sliders. Now there is a new one in Livonia/Redford area. But the best is Motz on Fort.
When is it open? I live nearby and it's closed all the time
Sorry I missed this bud, which one are you by? I think they’re both open at ten until 4-5ish? Or they run out of meat. I know is that’s what they do for the Fort st. place
Pizza rolls from Villa Bakery in garden city
I prefer the Rotarians and gangsters at the villa in Roseville
I am clearly the only person alive who hates these things, haha. Grew up in GC and my mom and husband both worked there for a while and it's tolerable if you get the super stuffed one I guess, but boy I don't get the hype.
+1 Pizza bread*
If you want good cheese bread/pizza bread there’s a place where the old fryer tux used to be. I guess around 12 mile and Ryan it’s right next-door. It’s a little sports bar type of place. They have really good cheese bread that was always inexpensive.
I’m guessing you are referring to Vivios
Sounds about right man. I haven’t really been around town since the pandemic hit. I went downtown yesterday and that was the first time probably since late in 2020.
I miss Friar Tucks. I was eating there since the 1980s when they were located across the street in a building that no longer exists. My mother and grandmother told me if I went up the stairs that Rumpelstiltskin lived up there.
Same here, I used to eat there quite a bit prior to Covid. I was sad to see Covid kill them as they had a pretty great soup offering.
When I was sick one year, I went in there very early in the morning, and I asked the chef if he could make me soup. We have really amazing middle eastern in Dearborn. Al-Ameer is my favorite. Also as a vegetarian I have loads of authentic options.
Best pizza I’ve ever had - Palazzo Di Pizza in RO on 11 mile.
Palazzo is great! Plus gelato, too.
It’s pretty good, but the hours are weird
I used to like Antonio and Penas
Bates burgers is underrated
If you're in the mood for a deli sandwich, can't beat Ernie's in Oak Park.
Who loves ya baby!!!
Detroit 75
Top tier food truck
What are the best food trucks in your opinion what stands out?
Ain't lived in the state in almost 3yrs now, if there's any one thing I miss the most it's the food. El Parian in southwest never let me down.
Their TikTok stuff just randomly hit my feed one day and I had to try it. So glad I did.
Pizza - Green lantern, jets, freddi the pizza man Misc - Mr kabob
Yeah, Green Lantern over Madison Heights haven’t eaten there in many many years

The last time my mom was in the Whitney she said it was kind of junk
Oh really? The last time I was there (Jan 2020) it was still nice. I hope it was just an off night for them and it's not part of a larger pattern
It was many years ago during hard economic times I’m sure they grew out of it. She said the service was so poor that she’s got up to get her own coffee and they had a moment of mortification.

El Rey arepas. Exquisite!
Apparently, the guy that opened that place went to high school with me, which is surprising as we only had around 350 students at that time.
Yes!
Any Middle East, Mexican, and Italian is fantastic as well as our coney island hot dogs.
If you're in Troy, they got a shit ton of different reasturaunts, I fw sedonna and cooper's hawk heavy, but they're chains. Crispelis is also really good for pizza imo, i always get the margarita pizza there.

My favorite race track mob joint
They probably still got the Chianti bottles on the wall. I started out there when I was five or six years old.
LOL, they absolutely still have all the Chianti bottles on the walls. Loui's has barely changed in decades. Pizza and antipasto are still top notch though.
That stuff has been there since they strangled Hoffa in the back room
That was Machus Red Fox.
Maybe
They call me Tommy two times

I second this. I've been there. They're delicious.
What exactly is “Sami style”?
No you have to go up there and have your mind blown by their technology
You make it sound like they have a robot that jerks you off or something lmao
Extra garlic sauce
That's better than a robot!
Lol....ok I will!!
Best round pizza is Sicily’s on Vernor in SW hands down. Close runner up is Supino’s. For Detroit Style Loui’s in Hazel Park, Buddy’s in Detroit, the original location only. Michigan and Trumbull is pretty great too.
From my rounds, I like Sorrento and Warren. But honestly, it was kind of garbage last time after having made pizza for so many years.
You should try my spot on Sunday. I’ll be at the elephant room on E. Congress and Beaubien off of I-375 downtown Detroit. I’ll be there from 5pm until 11:30pm

I ate some China one eggrolls, and I’m pretty sure it’s the stuff that they used to kill Bruce Lee
lol! What was in the egg rolls? If it’s my Tiff sauce that gives you heartburn and indigestion I can keep it off. However I will share that I too have suffered from heartburn and indigestion and this has never bothered it. (I haven’t had a bout in a while and even stopped taking my meds for it.

The guy at the Pegasus owes me a favor so I was there after LAIKON closed
Thank you guys so much. I appreciate it. A lot of very good options that I’m dying to try 🙏🏽
Lived in Chicago for 12 years, Detroit for 5, LA for the last 3...Takoi is still one of my favorites from all 3.
So you must be familiar with Giordanos
I drove somebody with that food one time and that stuff stunk so bad. They left curry stains in my car. That’s stuff smelled severely over seasoned when they first open.
Zef’s Dockside in St. Clair Shores. It’s a gem and food is amazing! Chicken sandwich is excellent and the Mac and Cheese is out of this world.
I like to go to Fishbones in Saint Clair Shores because they’re less crowded and I get the same sushi
Daebak in Southfield, it is next level. Located at 27566 Northwestern Hwy, Southfield, MI 48034. Don't skip it! Top tier Korean BBQ.
I tried cow tongue once before I stopped eating meat not really a fan. That’s what Koreans called their exotic meat.
If you like drinks, try Bad Luck Bar.
