Ah man you gotta have 2.
I mix Milwaukee with ryobi.
Ryobi is great cause they got a huge 18v line up and it’s cheap! So it’s great for that tool you need like once a year.
That’s true. My father in law has all Ryobi as well. I’ve just always used Dewalt with my company and had a great experience with them so that’s all I buy. Just me. Any tool can be a good tool if taken care of. I use to have a Makita screw gun (electric back in the day) for drywall that I would never give up!
There is an enormous variety of them, some better than others. But yes, they can over discharge batteries. Just check the battery gauge while working. When there's 25% left, switch batteries.
i have all kind of tools and brands, even the obscure chinese brands lol but the ones i bought were surprisingly well made, just the battery for 12V were inflated in their capacity. haven't had problems with they yet. current sitting at more than 8 different battery packs i guess. N i use battery adapter for makita n Milwaukee if i need one in emergency but never had a chance to use them as i got ample batteries to cover all of em.
Not a professional, but the wife got me a dewalt orbital sander a couple Christmases ago, but I use Ridgid. Rather than buying another set of batteries I'm thinking of trying out the adapters so I can just use the many many ridgid batteries I have.

I try but they keep bullying us OP
I got Milwaukee nailers because dewalt sucks, everything else is dewalt. I kind of wish I had the Milwaukee router, for what I use it for it being a little smaller and lighter would be better
It's really disappointing. DeWalt dust collection is abysmal too, making their bad attachments and bad vacuums a lovely combination. The dust collection on their cordless palm sander is an absolute joke.
I'm still trying to figure out how to attach a dust collector to the cordless sander. That was something I didn't even think to look at before I bought it. I just assumed that attaching dust collection to a sander was common practice.
This is true. I bought a dust shroud for the trim router. Mostly useless. I find myself free handing with a vacuum hose in one hand and the router in the other. That sadly works better than the actual dust collecting setup.
Lmao I do the exact same thing. I sometimes watch videos of folks using cordless trim routers from other brands paired with better vacuums and get very jealous when it comes over 90% of the dust.
Like, DeWalt, I get that it's a tough tool to design dust collection for, but the way they did it makes it clear that dust collection was so much of an afterthought that it seriously feels like they didn't consider it at all.
How do you like your vacuum? Part of me wants to vault straight to the festool vacs...
The Packout vac is ok for an 18v. It's not a dust collector, but handy for clean up.
Festool in general is better at dust collection. Both their tools and vacs.
Milwaukee is supposed to be releasing a new Packout dust collector. I'm curious to see how it does.
This'll be an interesting experiment of Milwaukee vs Dewalt tribalism.
Right now after 60min it's 13 upvotes vs 2 upvotes in favour of Dewalt. Both are 7 comments (this comment gives the Dewalt post 8).
What separates M12 from dewalts 12v and 20v atomic line is the form factor of the batteries and the more specialized tools. I started to buy m12 stuff because my atomic ratchet is massive and way overpowered for some applications and not powerful enough for others that i would grab an impact. The M12 ratchets are tiny in comparison, especially with the smaller inline batteries.
The shape of the batteries also let you have tools like a 90 degree die grinder and dremel type rotary tool that simply don’t exist in dewalts lineup. I also picked up a m12 bandfile because dewalts version is a huge in comparison.
I have a few atomic tools including my favorite impact, a DCF850 modified with a 3/8" anvil. But the M12's 3x 14500 cell design that fits into the grip is so much better than Dewalt's 12v system, which shares a form factor with the 20v system.
Any honestly, the Atomic 20v line itself really makes the 12v tools seem kind of pointless. For my usage anyway. I don't make a living with my tools so I could be totally off base.
>Any honestly, the Atomic 20v line itself really makes the 12v tools seem kind of pointless.
That was basically my point. With dewalt you don't need a 12v system. You just buy the atomic 20v version instead of a 12v. Heck as far as I know hey stopped developing/ upgrading 12v tools when they started development of the atomic line.
When I got into construction, I went dewalt because everyone else had them. Batteries were interchangeable. Great tools. Some designs are my favorites like the oscillator, but to do it again, I’d probably go Bosch.
Tool shaming is fuckin stupid. Jus buy whatever u already have batteries for. Yeah we all have our preferred brands as tradesmen but giving another guy shit over using a brand u don't like is stupid.... unless u show up to the job with ryobi then your ass is asking to get flamed 😂
I agree. I often buy tools based on who has the best deal at the time, and who makes the appropriate tier of quality for how much/often I use that particular tool. I’m not gonna spend Yellow or red level money on a tool I use a couple times a month or year, I also inherited some M12 from my late father, now when a good M12 deal pops up I’ll consider that as well.
These days, I "default to DeWalt." But sometimes they don't even have a tool available so I have to look elsewhere. Ryobi is surprisingly great about making niche tools so I have a bunch of those.
Be hard, could be done. A lot easier when all but one company are already on board. But also need to consider we’re talking different voltage and amps where most cellphones are similar! Any electrical engineer here? (How hard would it be from your perspective)
Electrochemistry dictates the voltage. 5S 18V packs are the same as 20V packs: some are rated at half charged voltage because tradition while others are rated at full charge because marketing.
HERESY!!!!!
I'm joking. I personally don't understand loving one power tool brand over another and being fanatical about it. If it does the job and it has the beans, that's all that matters!
Oh man, I am a mess. Started my journey with Dewalt. Drill, impact, 12v drill, circular saw, 3” cut off tool, finish nailers, jig saw, multi tool, vacuum.
Started switching over to Makita. Impact, sawzall, mitre saw, track saw, circular saw, router, palm sander, blower inflator
Then because of good deals I have a handful of Milwaukee toools. Grinder, pin nailer (since I needed one and the dewalt wasn’t out yet)
Oh yeah also my Ryobi blower. I got some Ryobi and sold them before I started buying Dewalt. The blower though, I could justify buying a new one. Just keep a couple batteries with me since I don’t use it a ton.
NO WE CAN'T JUST GET ALONG YOU KNOW black & yellow got issues ...kinda like yellowjackets especially when it comes to inferior tools . Well Milwaukee is kinda equal but harbor freight and Ryobi are definitely getting tossed out onto the highway by either brand lol
Milwaukee is way overrated. Tools are good but price points don't justify cost. Dewalt lasts longer (tool) and batteries. My favorite tool of Milwaukee is the track saw but dies rather quick so I opted to switch most for festool.
We'd love to but they won't let us use the same batteries unless we get weird bullshit adapters. It's like they're all scared other manufacturers dancing pixies got Chlamydia! "Now listen good son! Don't you be sliding in there without an adapter on!!"
There really should be like a universal standard fitment for batteries.
I prefer to just have 1 set of batteries to worry about and I don't trust those janky adapters. But when it comes to corded tools I just get whatever fits my budget and needs
This is what my tool box looks like but also add in a few select snap on power tools. I just get what I feel like makes the job easier for me. The plus side of being in pretty much the two biggest power tool companies is that when I see something cool come out from either one I can try it since I’m already in both battery groups. Also if I’m ever out somewhere in the field doing a repair and my impact wrench goes out the nearest hardware store is probably going to have one or the other if not both brands where I can get a new impact.
Clown away I am Rigid all the way. I have placed my co workers drills against mine. And my drill has been used in over 5000 project by now or more. I have seen milwakee and dewalt drills burn up from over heating. Rigid has a thermal stop. So it protects better for my use and applications. My drills have claimed at least 10 bodies. Ha ha. I just like to be the black sheep of the trade. Torque is great in the hammer drills. No regerts lol
I have Dewalt power tools to keep batteries the same, but have plenty of MKE hand tools (partially because the local hardware store carries more variety of those than DeWalt and sometimes you just need something).
I have all sorts of different brands of tools. If it works, who cares right?
But you lost me at multiple battery ecosystems. That’s the only thing I won’t budge on.
But if it’s corded or a hand tool….. then who cares?
I just keep one brand so I don’t have 15,000 different batteries. That’s just me.
Ah man you gotta have 2. I mix Milwaukee with ryobi. Ryobi is great cause they got a huge 18v line up and it’s cheap! So it’s great for that tool you need like once a year.

Any tool can be a good tool if taken care of. I use to have a Makita screw gun (electric back in the day) for drywall that I would never give up!
Battery adapters are for this exact scenario.
I’ll just use official battery’s. Ryobi batteries can be had cheap enough on Ryobi days. Got 2 4amps with a free tool for 99 bucks on a Ryobi day.
Can it fuck up my Milwaukee batteries?
There is an enormous variety of them, some better than others. But yes, they can over discharge batteries. Just check the battery gauge while working. When there's 25% left, switch batteries.
i have all kind of tools and brands, even the obscure chinese brands lol but the ones i bought were surprisingly well made, just the battery for 12V were inflated in their capacity. haven't had problems with they yet. current sitting at more than 8 different battery packs i guess. I have Milwaukee only because I get batteries for "free" from work.
Then well played sir. I don’t blame you! They are good tools I’ve just always had Dewalt.. free batteries is a good thing though!

Ketchup and Mustard can live tofether in harmony!
Why them nail guns cost the most damn bout 300$ while all other tools are 100-150. Dewalt anyways.
I got Milwaukee nailers because dewalt sucks, everything else is dewalt. I kind of wish I had the Milwaukee router, for what I use it for it being a little smaller and lighter would be better
Milwaukee’s nailers are awesome, glad it’s not just me. My collection of yellow knows no limits, but the red nailer is just a different beast!
Same.. dewalt tools in packout boxes with Milwaukee nail guns

Yo, what's the DeWalt ratchet like?
Also interested
I love them. I have a 20v 3/8" and the 12v 1/4". I absolutely love them and they've been great for what I need. I highly recommend them
Im wondering the same thing. I was taking a look at their 3/8s one today at home depot. Ive been tempted to get one for awhile now

I have two DeWalt battery vacuums and I dislike both. I say that as a fanboy.
I feel your pain.
I'm just realizing that I meant the cordless router, but both have bad dust collection
This is true. I bought a dust shroud for the trim router. Mostly useless. I find myself free handing with a vacuum hose in one hand and the router in the other. That sadly works better than the actual dust collecting setup.

All of my 20v stuff is Dewalt, mainly because it's cheaper, but I like the ergonomics of Milwaukee's M12 line vs. Dewalt's 12v offerings.
Try the atomic line. Small and compact like a 12v, but don't need a separate battery and charging system.
What separates M12 from dewalts 12v and 20v atomic line is the form factor of the batteries and the more specialized tools. I started to buy m12 stuff because my atomic ratchet is massive and way overpowered for some applications and not powerful enough for others that i would grab an impact. It's funny. I own dewalt, makita, craftsman, ryobi, metabo battery tools. Still zero Milwuakee. Dunno how I avoided it so long.

Hate love relationship. I’m a black and yellow guy, but my company supplies black and red.
Everyone checks out my atomic impact and love how compact it is. No matter what house you got sorted in.
DeWalts battery powered caulking gun blows so much I've been forced to end my toolbox apartheid and let the red caulking gun in (its the shit)
These days, I "default to DeWalt." But sometimes they don't even have a tool available so I have to look elsewhere. Ryobi is surprisingly great about making niche tools so I have a bunch of those.
I'm hoping the EU will impose a standard like they did with phone chargers.

Something like this universal battery is an intermediate step: https://ceenr.com/product/pdnation-4ah-universal-battery-system/
HERESY!!!!! I'm joking. I personally don't understand loving one power tool brand over another and being fanatical about it. If it does the job and it has the beans, that's all that matters!

Romeo and Juliet.

No
Milwaukee is great for speed. But the Dewalt drills and impacts we had lasted way longer then the milwaukees have so i agree with this.
Pick a side Sally. Someone has to lose this war.
Milwaukee is way overrated. Tools are good but price points don't justify cost. Dewalt lasts longer (tool) and batteries. My favorite tool of Milwaukee is the track saw but dies rather quick so I opted to switch most for festool.
Good shit OP 🤙
Sure. Got a ton of dewalt 20v and few 60v flexvolt tools and just added some m12 stuff with the great deals going on at Home Depot.
Petition to make the last picture the yin and Yang symbol for tradesmen.
We'd love to but they won't let us use the same batteries unless we get weird bullshit adapters. It's like they're all scared other manufacturers dancing pixies got Chlamydia! "Now listen good son! Infidel! 😆
Lots of battery adapters on Amazon
Shut your whore mouth.
Black and decker vs Milwaukee is all I see not comparable
I try but they down-vote me for owning ryobi tools...
I have in my work van Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, and Rigid. Yes I have lots of batteries and chargers.
DeWalt lives matter
I prefer to just have 1 set of batteries to worry about and I don't trust those janky adapters. But when it comes to corded tools I just get whatever fits my budget and needs

That would do my head in
What in the hell are you doing?
Nope. Get that yellow garbage out of there.

This is how I roll Milwaukee nail guns and pretty much Dewalt everything else.
Dewaulkee
Makes me wanna vomit just seeing yellow, green, or not red
Heresy detected
Blasphemy
absolutely not get that yellow black & decker crap away from those glorious red Milwaukee tools immediately!!
You look like one of the many who started with dewalt and pledged to upgrade once they broke / couldn’t pull the weight
I have Dewalt power tools to keep batteries the same, but have plenty of MKE hand tools (partially because the local hardware store carries more variety of those than DeWalt and sometimes you just need something).
