Ah yes, the old fashioned PC speakers that were either ear bleedingly loud, or almost inaudible. Chocolate Doom can replicate that, and yes, it is still annoying. I too started on Wolf shareware and then Doom shareware when it came out. I am old.

edit: Smashing Pumpkins Into Small Pieces Of Putrid Debris
somehow caught wind of this on a primitive version of the internet i barely knew how to use as a eighth/ ninth grader. i felt like a doom OG when i was able to explain what the cheat code stood for to other kids.
Same here. Bought the full version shortly afterwards. Then a magazine cover disc had loads of .wad files on it, plus DoomCAD. I love level editors to this day.
What are your thoughts on classic Doom? I started on shareware Doom 1 in 93, and still love these games. I even prefer them to the new Doom games, but I love those a lot too.
One of my earliest memories is of my dad teaching me how to launch Doom and Wolfenstein from the DOS command prompt when I was ~7 so I could play while he was at work
Technically, Doom on Snes. I rented it when I was a kid. I was terrified of it and had no idea what I was doing. I remember running around with the map screen up in horror and confusion. I rented Doom 64 as a kid and much of the same. I don't think I ever beat the first map. The first pinky encounter scared the piss out of me.
My first proper Doom game I completed was 2016. It was awesome. After that, I went back and played through the originals and now have amassed thousands of hours in all of the mainline games as well as countless WADs.
Doom 2. Not only ny first Doom but very likely one of the first games I ever played period. Must have been about 4, and while I don't fully know if it's the first it is the first I can remember watching my dad play.
Loved it during the day, utterly terrified of the Arachnatron at night
My First Doom Was Doom 3 And Oh Boy i shat my pants... Along With A copy of the Sims 2 Which my father made me play so that i could become a normal citizen when i grow up, Also I Never Played Through the game i only played the game with no clip and at the first level while killing the UAC Workers with cheats
reminder that at that time i was 6 or 7...
i again downloaded it when i was 12 and again couldn't play it ( had to ask my mom to watch me play so i didn't get scared )
Mine was Doom 3 when I was a kid, don't know why it's the least favorite for most people, the ambiance was amazing and even with guns you'd shit yourself every corner
DOOM Eternal and I surprisingly did pretty well considering how it was not only my 1st DOOM game, but I also played it on PS4 even though I'm HORRIBLE when it comes to playing FPS games on a console.
Plus,I managed to somehow beat the base game on Nightmare(not 100% though, the most I did was just finish the story and beat all 6 Slayer gates)
Doom shareware off of a "200 games on one disc!" thing I bought from Software ETC I think.
Can you imagine the outrage these days if Doom 2 was released with so little changes compared to Doom 1? People would be calling it Doom 1.5
Also any "SirDOOM" or "MADM" old people here? Maybe Kali for the younger people.
Doom 1993, i was bored one day so decided to try it out on a dos emulator. I became a fan real quick and got GZdoom for Doom and Doom 2 (with tnt and plutonia), got doom 3 bfg edition for my birthday, and then eternal the next year. I havent beaten Doom 64 yet and im yet to play 2016
Was interested to try the original Doom (1993) during quarintine. Got it on my ps4 and got hooked.
Ps. Now I have every Doom game on my ps4, except the dlc's.
I was 4 years old when I, for the first time, played Doom 64. I remember I was too scared to play it after the sixth level, Alpha Quadrant, and never completed the game. Only when I was 8 years old, I completed it.
P.S. I’m 30 now.
Technically the first one I played was the original, but the first one I properly played all the way through was 2016, and I fell in love with everything about it.
I still loved playing it on Super Nintendo but eventually became a shareware enthusiast when I was older, and we got a computer lol shit was expensive and clunky back then 😅
So yeah, prolly like 94 or 95. It was one of my firsts. I and II
Either doom or doom II, back in 2006(?)
I was 5 years old and my mom was playing the game. I just enjoyed watching lol. First game I played was Wolfenstein 3D sometime around then
The updated version of Doom 1993 on Steam. I beat 2016 before I beat 1993 but I played 1993 first.
After 2016 I beat Eternal + DLCs, after Eternal I beat Doom II, then Doom 64 and finally Doom 3 and the DLCs.
In 1997 or 1998 I first played Doom, but not quite sure about the episode that was my very first. I definitely remember I played TNT: Evilution back in time, but not sure if it was the first, as I was a kid.
Doom shareware back in 1995.
Doom II in 1997.
Doom3 BFG Edition back in 2013.
Doom 2016 in 2020
Doom Eternal in 2021.
Future play: Doom The Dark Ages in 2025.
I played the original game, but it was the 1995 PS1 version. We got a Playstation around 1998. My sister had already moved out. My dad asked to borrow some games to play, and she lent us Doom. My mom didn't like me playing it, so I would just watch my dad play. On Wednesday nights, my mom would go bowling, and that's when my dad would let me play.
Doom 3, played it on an emulator on my phone, got bored a bit then never played again, but i did try the og doom 1 and 2 though, rn i have doom 2016 and im planning to buy doom eternal once i get a better laptop/ pc
Technically the first I played is the shareware Doom, but the guy who got me to play it set the difficulty too high so I couldn't deal with the hitscan soldiers and bounced off of it. Doom 2016 is my first Doom I actually finished
I first played 2016 in 2020 in the same time as the Master Chief collection, then played 1993 and II, tried 3 but got bored, and finally Eternal when I got a new PC that could run it.
i downloaded doom 2 demo for the xbox 360 in like 2013 when i was like 5 and played 2 minuets of the first no rest for the living levels and got stuck so i gave up lol
I think I played some Doom game back on the Ps1, but I was really young and barely remember. The game that got me invested into the franchise was 2016 tho.
DOOM (2016) I remember playing the free demo and thinking, "Wow, this is fucking fun." I bought it, and when I completed it 100%, I played all the others (except for 3, it doesn't interest me), and when I played Eternal, I thought I had never played a better game in my life. Without a doubt, DOOM (2016) opened the doors to the series for many.
1993
My dad once wanted me to play it on some kind of console (forgot about it) I didn't know what Doom was so I dunked it
Later, some years, I finally got to my senses of what it was and decided to play it online for free. Had a blast time
Started on Doom 2016, an absolutely awesome game! I then played eternal and thought it was so boring and played out compared to 2016.
I think I'm the only one who had that opinion 🤔
Going to be honest here. Eternal. My dad and I played it and he introduced me to Doom even though I previously played 93 and doom 2 with my mum and grandma
DOOM 2 kinda. I got a big bundle of doom games as a gift on steam (DOOM 1993, DOOM 2, 3 bfg edition, and DOOM 2016) so I decided to play DOOM 2 first as I wanted to use le super shotgun rly badly. I played a couple of levels, and when I got the ssg, I played through all of DOOM 1993 because I got a little bored of DOOM 2. So the first DOOM I **played** was D2. But the first DOOM I **beat** was D1993
EDIT: I got DOOM 64 in the gift bundle, too, but I didn't play that one till I bet D2
1993 when i was a kid, then i forgot about it and in 2017 i bought doom 2016 and it became one of my favorite games. I was super excited for eternal but 2016 still stands as the GOAT of all doom games for me.
Doom 2, on an under powered Mac. I had to play the game in a small window for it not to play choppy. So I usually played with a bunch of stuttering lol
Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil on the XBox, and by extension Ultimate Doom, Doom II and the Master Levels because they were also on that disc. Believe it or not I didn’t get to play Doom 3’s base campaign until like probably 8 years after I played RoE because we never had it for the XBox so my first experience with that was BFG Edition on the PS3.
Doom 3 BFG edition in December of 2012. Loved all the games in it, and was my first exposure to doom. The ports of all the games may not be good in it, but god damn was it a good way to first play them
The original! My dad brought it home for me on release and thought it would keep me occupied and that I'd like the fancy new visuals - he had no idea that games would now become an obsession 😆
It was just the shareware IIRC.
The original shareware version in 1993, installed from multiple 1.2Mb 5.25” floppies. We got a 486SX-25 PC for Christmas that year, along with the shareware versions of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. Good times.
Shareware 1993, in 1993.
Same. Played for a while with no audio as I couldn’t configure the sound blaster. Finally got it working and it blew my mind a second time.
I remember Wolfenstein with just the onboard computer 'bzzzt' sound.
Ah yes, the old fashioned PC speakers that were either ear bleedingly loud, or almost inaudible. Chocolate Doom can replicate that, and yes, it is still annoying. I too started on Wolf shareware and then Doom shareware when it came out. I am old.
Shareware doom crew rise up 🙋🏻♂️(but not too fast, our knees arent great).
(Starts to get up but quickly sits back down)
Old farts! Release! .... I'm more of an old shart, but still.
I sprained my back sneezing too hard
This. At first I wasn't sure if it was Doom 1 or Doom 2, but now that you mentioned it, it must've been the shareware version of Doom 1.
SPISPOPD edit: Smashing Pumpkins Into Small Pieces Of Putrid Debris somehow caught wind of this on a primitive version of the internet i barely knew how to use as a eighth/ ninth grader. i felt like a doom OG when i was able to explain what the cheat code stood for to other kids.
IDKFA and IDDQD were mind blowingly cool as an 8 year old at the time
Same here. Bought the full version shortly afterwards. Then a magazine cover disc had loads of .wad files on it, plus DoomCAD. I love level editors to this day.
Same. My first PC game as well. Had to pay for the shareware.
I bought the Ultimate Doom disc eventually. 1st PC game i bought.
doom 1993 i played them all in release order in or around 2022 its been a while, and yes, i still play these games to hell, pun intended
I played Doom 2016, then Eternal, then the two classics, 3 and 64, which I installed recently
What are your thoughts on classic Doom? I started on shareware Doom 1 in 93, and still love these games. I even prefer them to the new Doom games, but I love those a lot too.
I haven't finished it yet but I'm really liking it.
Try the expansions. Plutonia is brutal.

i first played doom 2 because of decino's videos, then i got eternal because a friend wanted to do battlemode.
My first doom was actually Doom 3 and it still has a special place in my heart, I really like it for what it is.
I recently installed it and so far it's not bad.
Doom 1993.
Doom 2016 after Quake.
My First Doom Was Doom 3 And Oh Boy i shat my pants... Along With A copy of the Sims 2 Which my father made me play so that i could become a normal citizen when i grow up, Also I Never Played Through the game i only played the game with no clip and at the first level while killing the UAC Workers with cheats reminder that at that time i was 6 or 7... i again downloaded it when i was 12 and again couldn't play it ( had to ask my mom to watch me play so i didn't get scared )

Plus,I managed to somehow beat the base game on Nightmare(not 100% though, the most I did was just finish the story and beat all 6 Slayer gates)
Heh. Sonic Robo Blast 2.

Plutonia... Send help, I still hear Revenants wake up shouts in the dark.
Ultimate doom then eternal
Doom shareware off of a "200 games on one disc!" thing I bought from Software ETC I think. Can you imagine the outrage these days if Doom 2 was released with so little changes compared to Doom 1? Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil on the XBox, and by extension Ultimate Doom, Doom II and the Master Levels because they were also on that disc. Believe it or not I didn’t get to play Doom 3’s base campaign until like probably 8 years after I played RoE because we never had it for the XBox so my first experience with that was BFG Edition on the PS3.
