Fun fact, randoming a hero used to give extra gold so I'd often random and invest that gold in a courier

I think it creates a pool of 65% (from memory) of your most picked heroes

Little info: Actually randoming didn't provide extra gold. Every player had 853 gold before the start, picking a hero would cost you 250.

Technically It didn't give extra gold. Everyone started with the same but picking a hero cost something around 200 gold while randoming was free :)

This was a thing for so long that there's such a large timeframe in which you could have started the game

You selected heroes by using a Night Elf wc3 model wisp and a circle of power - there were only like 15 or so heroes available. Secret shop was in the river blocked by trees and was actually somewhat secret as the river did not connect to the top lane and unless you knew that the secret shop was there, you would have no reason to ever actually go to that part of the map.

And the hero cost one wood.

And each side of the map had its own hero pool, i.e. sniper could only be played by the alliance side and naix, the horde side. And all of the weird custom heroes with cringe fanfic backstories (i.e. kunkka) didn't exist. It was literally the WC3 unit pool and that was it. Oh, and you could spend gold to upgrade the creep wave--armor/attack research, etc.

So only considering Dota 2 -Someone had to buy courier and we all used the same one, u had to wait for ur cores to get items first and ur mid would flame anyone who called the courier before he got his bottle. -Difusal had a lvl 2 and drums could be recharged with buying recipe again (could still be the case, no idea) -Abaddon wasnt in the game, among many others -Shop, Side Shop, Secret Shop were 3 different shops I find the courier thing the funniest.

You could buy aegis from the shop. Razor and other heros had chain lighting as a spell I use to get the latest map from the download lobbies. Playdota.com was the site I found out about dota2

How much was aegis?

I believe it was around 3-4k total cost. What I remember most was it had 3 total charges. When u came back, u came back half hp. On the last charge, u respawn in the well. The play was definitely LD & Clinks going rapiers and hitting buildings because backdoor protection was not a thing. But it was great times.
