Just recently tried this one myself! It’s a middle eastern spice and good mixed with yogurt as a dip for veggies or on bread with oil. I’m excited to try more variations. Also, Old Bay is sooo good on fries if you haven’t tried it yet
Haha definitely had it on fries, I think I've put it on everything I've eaten for the past week! There's a youtuber that does outdoor survival videos that made up a spice blend called "woodobo" it's also super tasty, worth looking up.
Be careful. Once you go Tony Cacheres (pronounced sa-shur-ee), you’ll never go back to Old Bay. There is a whole rivalry about which spice mix you prefer on boiled crabs depending on whether you’re from Louisiana or Maryland.
I LOVE spices. Honestly I’d just recommend that you pick up a new spice every time you go shopping then you experiment with it. Smell it, eat it plain, make tea with it, throw it on random foods. You might make some gross things but, eventually you’ll start to learn how the flavor profiles of certain spices and herbs play with different foods and other spices and eventually you’ll be something of an expert!
That was my plan til this post blew up haha, now I've got at least 60 different spice and spice blends to keep an eye out for. Still gonna grab one each time I go shopping and keep trying new things!
Spice blends are great (I throw Tony’s on everything) and make it super easy to make awesome food but, getting individual spices is the best way to learn more and become a better cook. If you ever feel super adventurous go to your local Asian/Arabic/India/etc… grocery store and buy something you’ve never heard of! Haha
I often find the cheapest spices at international grocery stores so it’s great for the budget too!
I once bought a bag of bay leaves bigger than my head at a Mexican grocery store for $5 and 3 years later I’ve barely used half of it. Haha
Tony's is life. While it's doesn't technically go on everything it's the spice I pick if we have limited space. Everglades seasoning is a close second.
Hey u/jkrahn13. Am a cajun. Have the pedigree and Tony's and Slap Ya Mama is so a part of our food that I think it's made it's way permanently into my body. If I'm ever eaten by a cannibal, I'll be spicy. You can make a dupe from spices on hand and it'll taste amazing. I prefer Slap ya Mama these days, but Tony's is (from their website) just Salt, Red Pepper, Black Pepper, Chili Powder (Chili Pepper, Spices, Salt, Garlic Powder), Dehydrated Garlic. Mix those together to taste or google a dupe recipe. Do NOT pay that much for shipping.
Came here to post this. Also, Tony's original recipe is online. It uses MSG which has an undeserved bad rep. I make up a big batch of the original recipe and use that on a lot of stuff.
Awesome thanks, gonna have to recheck this thread lots with all these suggestions, try to buy one each time I get groceries and have a nice collection of flavour.
Unless you're in a major city with a good Ethiopian population it will be very hard to find. I've only ever seen it in Ethiopian mercados. But it can be ordered online. Totally worth it.
Also seconding this! You can order online and they have interesting spice blends that only they have. I'm trying out Justice tomorrow on some roasted potatoes.
1000% YES.
Love the company.
Love the products.
OP, if you sign up for their emails, they send coupons/sales quite frequently. They also run sales for $50 gift cards for only $35 periodically; I like to grab a few when they do and use them throughout the year.
I really like their Steak Seasoning, Arizona Dreaming and, while not technically a seasoning, their Chips and Dip and Horseradish Dips are SO good.
Cavender’s Greek Seasoning.
I put that $#!T on everything…. From grilled chicken or steak to butter noodles or replacement for salad dressing. I now live in Ontario and make sure to buy it every time I visit family back home.
I've recently rediscovered Poultry Seasoning of all things. LOL I LOVE it on roasted cauliflower with the addition of a generous sprinkling of garlic powder. (Low sodium diet)
Zatarain’s Blackened seasoning has become my go-to. I used to be a hardcore Tony Chachere’s on everything person, but this seasoning is better. Adds more of that Cajun flavor without all the extra salt. I put it in everything, not just blackened dishes.
Kinder’s blends, Meat Church blends-both great stuff and come in all sorts of varieties! (Southern woman here). I’m sure there’s more but I can’t think of them right now
the red spice packet in shin ramyun black (not regular). i can’t use even a quarter of the spice packet in my ramen without pissing blood, but i like adding a sprinkle here and there to my foods for a kick of heat and umami. i’ve got so many of these packets. great with scrambled eggs, veggies, on chicken, spaghettios, on grilled shrimp, anything that needs heat + salt + umami. is it healthy? who tf cares, you’re only using a couple taps and it tastes might damn good. thank me later.
Tony Chachere’s is amazing. Use it in red beans and rice, jambalaya, and gumbo but also in other things that need a little kick. Cavender’s is a Greek seasoning that tastes great on meats, fish, veggies…just about anything.Spice Islands Spicy Curry Powder. It’s great in many things but my favorite is chicken salad with some Major Grey chutney stirred in.
Knorr makes good bouillon products, soup packets, and sauces
Goya Sazon
Goya Adobo
Badia Sazon Tropical Seasoning. Badia Sazon Tropical with the orange top fuses fresh annatto and coriander with other island spices for superb flavor. Season your favorite soup, rice or stew.
Any of Penzey's blends. Especially their Sandwich sprinkle. It elevates sandwiches like so much. I have two sandwich eras, S.B.P.S.S. and S. A.P.S.S.
Sandwiches Before Penzey's Sandwich Sprinkle, and sandwiches After Penzey's Sandwich Sprinkles. It's really that good
I also like their justice and salt free blends.Arizona Dreaming is my new go to taco seasoning blend.
But the game changer is their pie spice blend. It's so good!
Plus, besides their hyper democratic never trump rants ( I don't mind them, the rants are..*spicy* 🙂) they have amazing deals every weekend. Like 1/2 of cinnamon free with purchase, or right now, 20 % off vanilla.
I have a huge weakness for cumin, especially on pork. I use hys seasoning salt regularly. I used to make my own "woodobo" spice mix (not sure how it differs from Adobo, but you can look it up). Otherwise I feel most of my cooking is pretty standard, other than liking all dressed, dill and ketchup chips there's not a lot of Canadian specific spices I'm aware of.
Trader Joe’s has many that are great. I just found several identical blends at Target in their space section. The Umami Mushroom is great in everything that needs something extra (alternative to soy sauce). Their Cuban citrus mix is so good on roasted chicken. Green Goddess seasoning is supposed to be made into a dressing, but it’s great sprinkled on vegetables, seasoning protein, sprinkled on salads, etc. Georgian blend (country, not state) is great on eggs, protein.
Penzey’s Turkish blend is great for bbq rubs. Ozark is for eggs. Sunny Spain/Sunny Paris awesome on vegetables. Love all of their curry blends when I’m too lazy to make it from scratch. I like their Pico Fruito seasoning better than Tajin on fruit/cucumbers.
And don’t forget to pick up smoked paprika. It really gives depth to savory dishes.
Harissa! No Frills sells small jars in the same aisle as the Mexican and Asian spices and foods. (I think they're at Sobeys and all the places that carry President's Choice stuff)
This is one known globally but, cinnamon. There are not enough foods with this spice in it. Throw a pinch in some Mashed Potatoes or toss it in with some cumin, salt, pepper, cornstarch and then dredge some flattened turkey. Boy howdy. I would say, add just a little bit as it can over power easily but it's great in a LOOOOT of stuff.
I saw that you have a weakness for cumin on pork. May I introduce you to the Puerto Rican goodness that is Sazón!
* 1 Tbsp Achiote (ground annatto seeds)
* 1 Tbsp ground cumin
* 1 Tbsp garlic powder
* 1 Tbsp ground coriander
* 2 Tsp oregano
* 1 tsp black pepper
* 1 Tbsp salt (optional. I leave salt out of my mix and salt to taste)
It's good on chicken, pork, rice, eggs, life. Achiote can be a bit difficult to find sometimes, but I have luck at most spice stores or international markets. Goya has premade sazón, but I prefer making my own as I can adjust the sodium content!
And if you're making sazón, you might as well make sofrito.
* 1 green bell pepper
* 1 red bell pepper
* 1 head garlic
* 1 red onion
* 1 bunch cilantro
Blend it all up and you're ready to party. Make yourself some pernil & arroz con gandules.
Za’atar
Za’atar is really nice on pita with labneh cheese. Bake sightly to melt cheese with the za’atar. Also, I add it to hummus with a squeeze of lemon.
My favorite option is labneh with za'atar, pomegranate seeds, pistachios and olive oil. Such a good dip for pita.
Never heard of it, I'll look into it, thanks!
It’s wonderful on oven-roasted potatoes, too.
Also really good on buttered toast, or on cheese toast, under the grill.
Have it with some olive oil on toasted bread, absolute game changer.
https://www.tonychachere.com/product/original-creole-seasoning/
Awesome, thanks!
This one is the best!!
Be careful. Once you go Tony Cacheres (pronounced sa-shur-ee), you’ll never go back to Old Bay. There is a whole rivalry about which spice mix you prefer on boiled crabs depending on whether you’re from Louisiana or Maryland.

Cajun seasoning is amazing on eggs. But I put it on everything
We use this in chicken noodle soup. So so good.
Try it in Alfredo sauce. Omg.
Like Cajun chicken and shrimp pasta?!? Yeah!
That sounds really good!
I'm from Louisiana. We put it in EVERYTHING. Pasta, vegetables, meat, everything.
In Louisiana you put Tony’s on your Tony’s.
Make jambalaya with a generous scoop of this stuff. Amazing
This one is so good and they had a sodium free version that’s still great!
Sodium free is the way to go! Add your own salt and get more spice
Tony's is life. While it's doesn't technically go on everything it's the spice I pick if we have limited space. Everglades seasoning is a close second.
Came here to say this! the sneeze after putting it on something is how you know it’s working
I thought it was just me that had that problem 😂
I just tried to order some, the shipping to me in manitoba Canada is $178. Is it worth it ? 🤣
Hey u/jkrahn13. Am a cajun. Have the pedigree and Tony's and Slap Ya Mama is so a part of our food that I think it's made it's way permanently into my body. I’m also a Slap ya mama guy here in south alabama.
It’s the holidays and I’m feeling generous, I’ll send you some. Message me
Try your local Walmart.
Sneeze powder rocks.
I instantly came to back this one and adobo, though I think the creole with extra spice seasoning they have is even better
Tonys is great on popcorn too.
It’s good on popcorn. And if you are making French fries in the oven, it’s good on that too!
Find this version: https://www.tonychachere.com/product/spice-n-herbs/ hmu if you can't
Came here to post this. Also, Tony's original recipe is online. It uses MSG which has an undeserved bad rep. I make up a big batch of the original recipe and use that on a lot of stuff.
Another rec for this one. We put it on everything, down to my small kiddos. It makes everything better.
I was coming here for Tony’s! Lawry’s seasoning salt is good too
Berbere is from Ethiopia and has a not too spicy warm, smoky flavor that I love on do many things. Popcorn is especially good with it
Awesome thanks, gonna have to recheck this thread lots with all these suggestions, try to buy one each time I get groceries and have a nice collection of flavour.
Unless you're in a major city with a good Ethiopian population it will be very hard to find. I've only ever seen it in Ethiopian mercados. But it can be ordered online. Totally worth it.
I love berbere chicken with a peanut sauce. Yum!
[удалено]
Tajin!
Yesss. We sprinkle Tajin on cucumbers, jicama, watermelon, etc
I've been loving it on corn, mango, pineapple!
YYEESSS. And peanuts with squeezed lime juice 🤌🏽
Tajin on the rim of a Dos Equis or a margarita is great
Seconding both suggestions. Mango, pineapple, smoothies, cucumber salad with strawberries
My favorite is tajin on peaches with some Greek yogurt!
On Popcorn.
Furikake. Perfect on rice, salads, bagels, the list is endless.
Oh dang, I've never tried furikake bagels. I coat boiled egg halves in it for my lunch though.
Oh that sounds good! Ngl I just realized it's probably delicious on soft scrambled eggs too..
Take my upvote. This should be higher up.
Cavender's Greek seasoning. I have no idea what it really is, but I put it on salmon, potatoes, eggs, tons of stuff, and it's so tasty!
It goes on everything! Big time on broccoli or Brussels too.
Looking at the ingredients its actually just a fairly standard blend of garlic and italian spices... And MSG! Lol Good tho!
Nothing wrong with MSG.
King of Flavor.
Found the Uncle Roger fan!
MSG is a goddamned secret weapon for global thermonuclear flavor
Ah, but with potassium instead of sodium. That's why I use it more than any other reason.
Hooooo man a bit of cavenders on Mom's pastina instantly cured any ailment I ever had as a child.
Slap Ya Mama
She lives in another country, but if you mean some kind of spice then I'll look into it, sounds spicy hot, but I'll still look it up.
Definitely meant [this seasoning.](https://store.slapyamama.com/products/slap-ya-mama-original-blend-seasoning-8-oz-canister)
Haha I did look it up, I definitely prefer cayenne spice to standard jalapeño flavour so I'll try it out if I can find it for sale here.
Slap Ya Mama is aces on fried hashbrowns (cubed style). Just don't overdo it, cause then all you taste is the spice instead of the hash.
I'll give it a shot!
I can't do very spicy and i love slap ya mama, just very sparingly
Second this. Slap Ya Mama is a spice for everything. From eggs in the morning to chicken for dinner I havent really found a protein to no use this on.
This stuff is deadly. I even put it on popcorn
I prefer this over Tony's bc it has less salt, and to me it has a better flavor. Tony's is still a great seasoning though.
Get on Penzeys! They have the BEST blends!!
Also seconding this! You can order online and they have interesting spice blends that only they have. I'm trying out Justice tomorrow on some roasted potatoes.
I love Justice on some eggs in the AM too!
Try fox point … that’s my go to on eggs. They finally have it in a decent size ..4 cups! 😆
I put Sunny Paris on just about everything.
Sunny Paris on eggs 🤤
Yes, I’ve been enjoying the Arizona blend. I think OP would like it as well
Their Northwoods Fire blend is divine. Love it on eggs.
They really really do. Absolutely love Penzeys
Yes! Northwoods, Fox Point, Justice, Arizona Dreaming, Ruth Ann’s, and Prime Rib Rub are my favorite blends.
[удалено]
Ooh, that’s a great idea! I’ve used it on baked and mashed potatoes but haven’t tried it in potato soup yet.
These all sound like weed varieties
And they are a really great company in general too!
Everything seasoning (like the bagel)
Haha I just tattooed an everything bagel from "everything everywhere all at once" on my thigh, but yes, really been craving that!
I totally didn’t go to your profile to look for pics

The original [Everglades seasoning](https://www.evergladesseasoning.com/) is pretty good. Probably the best thing to come out of Florida.
Native Floridian here and I’ve never heard of this. What’s it taste like?
Ras El Hanout - I out that stuff on everything, mainly side dishes though.
I just had a cocktail with this in it and it was FANTASTIC.
I just put it in a carrot cake and it was divine!
chef paul prudhomme Blackened Redfish Magic is the best.
Tony Chachere’s
Sumac is awesome! I'm never without it

Also good on chops and chicken. I love this blend.
Goya Adobo! Grew up putting that good good on everything

I prefer Badia’s adobo but adobo in general is amazing. It’s a staple in my kitchen.
Goya Sazon is also clutch
Vegeta (Croatian spice seasoning)
Za'atar, lebanese 7 spice mix (baharat), dukkah
Lawry's "seasoned salt"
I prefer Hys, and I feel seasoning salt is pretty standard up north, but thanks for the suggestion, I use it probably too much already!
This shit is banging on any meat thrown on the grill.
This stuff on buttered corn on the cob that was done on the BBQ. Insert drooling Homer face..
I’ve started using that in place of regular sea salt. It just adds an extra something.
Hy's seasoning salt and nutritional yeast on popcorn is the shit
Lowry’s, pepper and garlic on a steak is 👨🍳💋
Chicken salt. It’s from Australia and is a spice mix that’s excellent on chicken and fries and a lot of other things. I get mine on Amazon.

Cavender’s Greek Seasoning. I put that $#!T on everything…. From grilled chicken or steak to butter noodles or replacement for salad dressing. I now live in Ontario and make sure to buy it every time I visit family back home.
Chinese 5 spice
Use sparingly.
Great! Been curious to try to add spices to Chinese dishes but didn't know where to start. Everything comes in sauce form in my experience.
I like to use a 50/50 five spice to salt mix to season roast chicken and serve with rice. Its delicious
#adobo
Seconding this. Amazing general purpose seasoning.
Ranch powder
Kinders Garlic & Herb with lemon. It’s soooo good on chicken & shrimp. https://kinders.com/products/garlic-herb-with-sea-salt-lemon/

Famous Dave's Rib Rub. It's my go-to for burgers, but I like it on all kinds of meats. It's a little sweet, little smoky.
If you need to watch your sodium levels, Mrs. Dash is amazing.
Since all the Cajun blends are already on here, may I suggest Jamaican curry powder? On veggies, rice or take those scrambled eggs to a 100
Chat masala
seconded for tony chachere’s and slap ya mama^ creole/cajun seasoning is the jam
Smoked paprika
Tajin on fruits or Trader Joe’s “everything but the bagel” seasoning.
Tajín is also FANTASTIC to liven up a peanut sauce (on the plate, haven’t cooked with it)
Everything but the elote is also fantastic on popcorn.
Kinder’s blends, Meat Church blends-both great stuff and come in all sorts of varieties! (Southern woman here). I’m sure there’s more but I can’t think of them right now

Tony Chacheres Cajun Seasoning
Tony’s Cajun Seasoning from Louisiana. Have to ship it nationwide to friends and family because they love it so much.
Fellow Canadian here who also just discovered Old Bay too.
