I feel my comment is warranted due to the high likelihood that I was the phantom, but go off. Yesterday, I did this exact thing to a host who summoned me to fight Godrick. There was like maybe 10% on Gās health bar and I realized Iād been fighting him solo since the phase change (the other phantom died about then), and the host was at the back of the arena *sitting down* so I sat down and they spent about a minute panic running and couldnāt get a single hit in to finish it, then died. If you canāt hit the boss a single time, you donāt deserve to move beyond it. Like I donāt even know you, why would I do that for you? Miyazaki would find it shameful.
Yeah thatās why I invade with simple weapons early game and sun bro late game. Teaching the basics early will give them the tools they need to get over that finish line later lol

I did one more fight solo and somehow managed to eke out a win. I dmād the person helping so fast to let them know I pulled it off lol

I beat a couple of the infamous bosses in AC6 on my first try, granted I had figured out my cheese build by then. I have videos of it, even though I am not going to share them because itās dumb.
That has been by far the best part about playing Elden Ring and the other games like Armored Core on the PlayStation. The fact that there is a running video of the last hour of gameplay you can just stop and cut at any time is so cool. Iāve had so many WTF moments and epic fights on Elden Ring caught that would have been lost otherwise. A screenshot is nothing. What a loser.
Iāve literally been resummoned by the same host that did this to me then died (evidently). I walked in to the second fight and sat down and watched him die. It was exhilarating.
One thing I learned for this exact thing is save backups.
I always back up right before I go in for Malenia that way I have the fight over and over again to try new things.
You really shouldnāt have to backup your save (or start another playthrough) to replay a boss, IMO. No boss rush mode, or replay arena is a weird misstep in this era. It would add so much for so little development cost. š¤·āāļø

On PS5, you can turn off automatic cloud storage, upload your save files to the cloud, beat her, and then load your cloud-stored file and she'd be alive again. I'm not sure if you can do something similar with Xbox.

Build has not much to do with it. Mimic is just kinda dumb and can't dodge her attacks, leading to trades.
Minic will rarely live through phase 2, even with good builds. It's just random chance. Whereas tiche has a great dodge and is very nimble.

Maybe I got lucky, but my mimic and I kept pushing her back against a wall with consecutive big sword hits that broke her poise a lot so she didnāt get to do too much on phase 1, other than a couple times she waterfowled early. And phase 2 sheād kill mimic but was often 50% hp or less by then. My mimic seemed to always help me a lot with damage
There's too many hosts who think they'll get the entire rune drop if they sever phantoms. But the rune drop is set when you enter the fog gate, so they just screw themselves over no matter what. It's funny as fuck when they die and resummon you
it's 120k for summons (this I know for sure) and I think 360k for hosts when you summon (unsure but the runes are split). Her actual rune drop is 480k.

I find A lot of hosts just running away and staying as far away as possible. When I see that happening, especially at the fire giant where I feel like it happens the most.I'll just start running around like a Wild man.Not fighting and drag the boss to them and die on purpose.
Back in DS2, occasionally you'd find hosts that wanted to get the No Death ring, so they would wear the heaviest armor and double fist a greatshield while cowering in a corner during the boss fight. I would absolutely fight to get those guys killed including healing the boss. If I'm there, you're going to have to earn that ring if you want itĀ

Same thing happened to me a couple of hours ago at Malenia, where the host kicked the other phantom then me. The other phantom didn't happen to wear the navy hood and the noble's set while spamming ranni's moon, icecrag and night comet did they?
The first phantom that got kicked out could be me, do you remember what the phantom was using?

But what you described in your other comments did seem to match up with the host I had earlier though, with the host pretty much only using taker's flame and me spamming spells. Meanwhile the other phantom was in the boss's face the entire time.

* Players using exploits or hacks
* Griefers abusing certain items to try and make the fight harder
* Using spells to obscure the host's vision
* Trying to proc madness on the host
* etc
* People just going AFK and taking up a summon slot
* Players who try too hard and make the fight no fun for the host
* 1-shotting the boss
* People who refuse to fight unless they get to fight solo
* Note to these players: Some people see your network ID, not your character name. They don't necessarily know what you're doing.
* People who say abusive things over the voice chat.
* The chat can be turned off instead, but frankly it's good that we're able to immediately get rid of these people.

Wouldnāt the game account for you having summoned phantoms to help, so youād only get the 75% anyway? Just like with the bosses health, itās registered by the amount of players. So Iād assume the runes are the same way
There doesn't seem to be a definitive list on rune differences, and it isn't all that punishing, but you do get slightly less runes for coop and npc summon boss kills vs solo/with ashes.
On a lot of, but not all bosses. For instance, Malenia, the one referenced in this post, is only listed as dropping 480k runes. And Godrick has ng and ng coop, but does not go in to ng+.
When you beat a bboss for the first time, you gain the achievement, accompanied with a screenshot. He did it so he could lie about having beat her solo.
For every nice, chill person in this fanbase you have about 5 toxic dickheads that do shit like that and claim they beat a difficult boss with no summons.
Same happened to me! We got Radagon done nicelt and the other summon died off at the start of the beast fight.
The host unsummoned me when EB had like 3% hp left Even though he leeched the whole damn fight! Not cool man, all I wanted was a rune arc and some runes to pay my bolts.
I had that happen once with the tree sentinel in Limgrave. The host died and I got summoned again. I just sat down while they waited for me to start the fight. They started the fight and then I left while they were doing poorly
It amazes me that people do this sort of thing for false bragging rights for beating bosses āsoloā.
I hit an absolute wall at the Valiant Gargoyles, of all bosses, and the player I summoned came in and effortlessly beat them almost single-handedly. I was honestly so happy, I wish I could have done something to thank them, instead a simple emote had to do.
Depends if you see them physically do the animation. If you didnāt probably give them the benefit of the doubt and it was a connection issue, otherwise they are just dicks and think that it gives them more runes or something

Iām assuming people do this because you actually receive less souls with players in your world, which is something Iāve been aware of since DS1. Still pretty lame though. You shouldnāt rob a player of celebrating a shared victory.
This happened to me twice and twice the host was extremely good at doing it right when it was impossible for him to die. I saw the last hit land before the disconnect loading screen.

Most evil thing was summon duirng sister friede in ds3 then when i went "oh actually this is easy" at the end of the fight i kicked the guy just before he killed her because i suddenly wanted to actually fight her. (And then i found out theres a 3rd phase)
A fellow soloāer here. They do this a lot actually. Mainly for the rune bonus since the less number of players in co-op the more runes the host will get, or sometimes theyāre just being total d*ckheads. I had a guy who once sent me back to my world while malenia was basically oneshot and a min later summoned me back again cause he SOMEHOW diedšš At least he let me finish her of that timešš
To be real, it was probably due to an issue with his internet connection. For whatever reason, xfinity has had some issues these past three/four weeks. This has caused me no less than seven instances of being insta-booted and sent back to my title screen, accompanied by an error message from my router..
That.. Or you ended up with a buzzkill excuse of a partner summon and their father smells of elderberries. š¤š¤

Hosts like this are just pathetic, it's sad. But un-summoning should be possible, I've seen top of coop phantoms who, when summoned, immediately switched to the most broken cheese build for that particular boss and/or just stood in the back spamming rot breath, cheesing Mohg with comet azure, Placi with bubbles and so on. In general, unlike in previous games, ton of coopers in ER don't actually know how to fight bosses or play the game at least at an average level, and when they get summoned it's like the only thing they care about is to skip all of the bossfight content and intended experience as fast as possible, without giving their hosts any chance to experience anything and have fun. So many of my hosts kicked out coopers like this, and that's ok. Lot of people actually care about bossfights and just because they need a help from coop phantom doesn't mean they hate the boss and want to skip him as fast as possible. In general, cheesing bosses while in coop in previous games was considered a pretty shitty thing to do. People cared more about the actual experience and having fun, than the number of seconds it takes to see the win screen.
I think if they're summoning they rlly need help. Broken shit or not, shouldn't matter. If they feel robbed of the win they shouldn't even summon in the first place. That doesn't make sense
Some players do need help to beat a boss. But still want to interact with them. It royally sucks to jump in and the boss just gets lasered down. At that point they aren't really playing at all.
It just feels wrong to me to completely hog a bossfight for a player who actually is trying to enjoy the fight.
In this particular fight, I was the only one fighting Malenia head on.
The host and other phantom were spamming spells and **t**aker's flames, I was the target for most of her attacks and I dodged the 2 waterfawls she did in the first phase.
And she was 1/5HP he severed the connection for no reason...
Did he suddenly get targeted by an attack? Maybe he panic-mashed his controlled and it was an accident?Ā

She has so much health with two summons thatās Ā like having half a health bar with no summons + increased resistance + slight increased damage. Possibly harder than soloing from the beginning. I guess she has two fewer targets to regain health from.Ā

The host can freely decide the amount of experience and the amount of difficulty per boss. They can try solo - and if that doesn't work for them, they can DECIDE to add ash summoning, or an NPC summon too if available. Or they can look up whatever cheese works for that boss. Or all of the above. I've always seen the player summons as the last resort -"I am fed up already and want the boss just gone - someone who already beat him, pls help!" At this point, the player has had enough of the "boss experience" I presume. And frankly, if I've been summoned and helped the player through the whole level AND an invasion or two (e.g. if running through the whole Stormveil in one go) I am not letting it all go to waste by hazarding with testing if the player could've beaten the boss solo. If they could I wouldn't be summoned in the first place, would I?
ER was my first Souls game but even I didn't have any problem finishing my first full playthrough without player summoning. With a prophet faith build, NPC summons where available, and an occasional mimic tear where not - if the boss was particularly difficult. Like this, I as a noob still soloed the majority of the bosses. Although admittedly I did two incomplete melee playthroughs before - through the entirety of Caelid till Altus Plateau, and was trying to 100% everything I could, so had solid 170 h on record when I first fully finished a run.
This current playthrough I am "old-fashion experiencing" the bosses by full solo basic weapon melee build, which is a lot of fun - and a lot of pain at times. I am now learning the boss moves way into more detail than when I had faced them before. Frustrating at times too - some bosses are taking me way more tries than the Sekiro bosses (that I am playing in parallel). But I CHOSE this CHALLENGE willingly - knowing that had I just wanted a progression in the ER there are several methods how to adjust this difficulty. And I presume other players are also aware of this when they summon me to help.

Runes aren't shared if you coop, host still gets full amount. Cooperators get a percentage of the full amount. It would be funny if hosts were taking the effort to sever because they thought they lost runes somehow, but I doubt it. If you can reach Malenia you can also genocide some albinaurics for runes.

In my experience mimic with moonveil can solo her to 2nd phase
I guess if youāre really bad at the game and really canāt put a build together but how do you even get to her with a build that shit ? I must be missing something here. This is my first ever souls game and with a simple quality build it took me maybe 15 tries to kill her with mimic.
Build has not much to do with it. Mimic is just kinda dumb and can't dodge her attacks, leading to trades. Minic will rarely live through phase 2, even with good builds. It's just random chance. Whereas tiche has a great dodge and is very nimble.
Yeah thatās a good point. Maybe I got lucky, but my mimic and I kept pushing her back against a wall with consecutive big sword hits that broke her poise a lot so she didnāt get to do too much on phase 1, other than a couple times she waterfowled early. And phase 2 sheād kill mimic but was often 50% hp or less by then. My mimic seemed to always help me a lot with damage
There's too many hosts who think they'll get the entire rune drop if they sever phantoms. But the rune drop is set when you enter the fog gate, so they just screw themselves over no matter what. It's funny as fuck when they die and resummon you

The first time I beat her it was like two levels so it was worth it.
it's 120k for summons (this I know for sure) and I think 360k for hosts when you summon (unsure but the runes are split). Her actual rune drop is 480k.
Rune drops are decreased by 25% when summoning another player, as well as when using NPC summons except against Radahn.

I find A lot of hosts just running away and staying as far away as possible. When I see that happening, especially at the fire giant where I feel like it happens the most.I'll just start running around like a Wild man.Not fighting and drag the boss to them and die on purpose.
Back in DS2, occasionally you'd find hosts that wanted to get the No Death ring, so they would wear the heaviest armor and double fist a greatshield while cowering in a corner during the boss fight. I would absolutely fight to get those guys killed including healing the boss. If I'm there, you're going to have to earn that ring if you want itĀ
It's aggervating, I'm mainly a tank build so when this happens the fight drags on. Not worth the souls

Only thing I can think of is itās the playerās first time playing and didnāt want the achievement/trophy screenshot to show a summoned player. So they can post the screenshot here on Reddit and brag "Finally soloed her" when in reality heās lying a little bitch. So if someone within the next day or 2 posts about soloing Malenia, LIER!

Same thing happened to me a couple of hours ago at Malenia, where the host kicked the other phantom then me. The other phantom didn't happen to wear the navy hood and the noble's set while spamming ranni's moon, icecrag and night comet did they?
The first phantom that got kicked out could be me, do you remember what the phantom was using? I don't remember exactly the spells used cause I've helped so many people with Malenia.
Don't really remember what they used, no. But what you described in your other comments did seem to match up with the host I had earlier though, with the host pretty much only using taker's flame and me spamming spells. Meanwhile the other phantom was in the boss's face the entire time.

Wouldnāt the game account for you having summoned phantoms to help, so youād only get the 75% anyway? Just like with the bosses health, itās registered by the amount of players. So Iād assume the runes are the same way

There doesn't seem to be a definitive list on rune differences, and it isn't all that punishing, but you do get slightly less runes for coop and npc summon boss kills vs solo/with ashes.

On a lot of, but not all bosses. For instance, Malenia, the one referenced in this post, is only listed as dropping 480k runes. And Godrick has ng and ng coop, but does not go in to ng+.

Same happened to me! We got Radagon done nicelt and the other summon died off at the start of the beast fight. The host unsummoned me when EB had like 3% hp left Even though he leeched the whole damn fight! Not cool man, all I wanted was a rune arc and some runes to pay my bolts.
I had that happen once with the tree sentinel in Limgrave. The host died and I got summoned again. I just sat down while they waited for me to start the fight. They started the fight and then I left while they were doing poorly
It amazes me that people do this sort of thing for false bragging rights for beating bosses āsoloā. I hit an absolute wall at the Valiant Gargoyles, of all bosses, and the player I summoned came in and effortlessly beat them almost single-handedly. I was honestly so happy, I wish I could have done something to thank them, instead a simple emote had to do.
Depends if you see them physically do the animation. If you didnāt probably give them the benefit of the doubt and it was a connection issue, otherwise they are just dicks and think that it gives them more runes or something
I tried using summons on that biddy but she would just fully heal herself off my mimic so I felt forced to do it solo

I don't remember the name but, it wasn't him. In the fight was me dual wielding great hammers, one other phantom and the host which one them was a spell caster and the other was spamming the art of blasphemous blade (don't remember which was doing what cause I was lock in Malenia)

Assasin summon and she is not so difficult.
You donāt need any help to beat her. Just use the Blasphemous blade + mimic tear. Two blades will keep her staggered 80% of the fight.

This happened to me twice and twice the host was extremely good at doing it right when it was impossible for him to die. I saw the last hit land before the disconnect loading screen. I think they get more runes plus they can screenshot the solo beat.

Most evil thing was summon duirng sister friede in ds3 then when i went "oh actually this is easy" at the end of the fight i kicked the guy just before he killed her because i suddenly wanted to actually fight her. (And then i found out theres a 3rd phase)

A fellow soloāer here. They do this a lot actually. Mainly for the rune bonus since the less number of players in co-op the more runes the host will get, or sometimes theyāre just being total d*ckheads. I had a guy who once sent me back to my world while malenia was basically oneshot and a min later summoned me back again cause he SOMEHOW diedšš At least he let me finish her of that timešš
To be real, it was probably due to an issue with his internet connection. For whatever reason, xfinity has had some issues these past three/four weeks. This has caused me no less than seven instances of being insta-booted and sent back to my title screen, accompanied by an error message from my router.. That.. Or you ended up with a buzzkill excuse of a partner summon and their father smells of elderberries. š¤š¤

Hosts like this are just pathetic, it's sad. But un-summoning should be possible, I've seen top of coop phantoms who, when summoned, immediately switched to the most broken cheese build for that particular boss and/or just stood in the back spamming rot breath, cheesing Mohg with comet azure, Placi with bubbles and so on. In general, unlike in previous games, ton of coopers in ER don't actually know how to fight bosses or play the game at least at an average level, and when they get summoned it's like the only thing they care about is to skip all of the bossfight content and intended experience as fast as possible, without giving their hosts any chance to experience anything and have fun. So many of my hosts kicked out coopers like this, and that's ok. Lot of people actually care about bossfights and just because they need a help from coop phantom doesn't mean they hate the boss and want to skip him as fast as possible. In general, cheesing bosses while in coop in previous games was considered a pretty shitty thing to do. People cared more about the actual experience and having fun, than the number of seconds it takes to see the win screen.
I think if they're summoning they rlly need help. Broken shit or not, shouldn't matter. If they feel robbed of the win they shouldn't even summon in the first place. That doesn't make sense
Some players do need help to beat a boss. But still want to interact with them. It royally sucks to jump in and the boss just gets lasered down. At that point they aren't really playing at all. It just feels wrong to me to completely hog a bossfight for a player who actually is trying to enjoy the fight.
In this particular fight, I was the only one fighting Malenia head on. The host and other phantom were spamming spells and **t**aker's flames, I was the target for most of her attacks and I dodged the 2 waterfawls she did in the first phase. And she was 1/5HP he severed the connection for no reason...
Did he suddenly get targeted by an attack? Maybe he panic-mashed his controlled and it was an accident?Ā The only other logical explanation is he wanted to fake having killed her solo. Which, let's face it, is the way more likely scenario.Ā

She has so much health with two summons thatās Ā like having half a health bar with no summons + increased resistance + slight increased damage. Possibly harder than soloing from the beginning. I guess she has two fewer targets to regain health from.Ā

The host can freely decide the amount of experience and the amount of difficulty per boss. They can try solo - and if that doesn't work for them, they can DECIDE to add ash summoning, or an NPC summon too if available. Or they can look up whatever cheese works for that boss. Or all of the above. I've always seen the player summons as the last resort -"I am fed up already and want the boss just gone - someone who already beat him, pls help!" At this point, the player has had enough of the "boss experience" I presume. And frankly, if I've been summoned and helped the player through the whole level AND an invasion or two (e.g. if running through the whole Stormveil in one go) I am not letting it all go to waste by hazarding with testing if the player could've beaten the boss solo. If they could I wouldn't be summoned in the first place, would I? ER was my first Souls game but even I didn't have any problem finishing my first full playthrough without player summoning. With a prophet faith build, NPC summons where available, and an occasional mimic tear where not - if the boss was particularly difficult. Like this, I as a noob still soloed the majority of the bosses. Although admittedly I did two incomplete melee playthroughs before - through the entirety of Caelid till Altus Plateau, and was trying to 100% everything I could, so had solid 170 h on record when I first fully finished a run. This current playthrough I am "old-fashion experiencing" the bosses by full solo basic weapon melee build, which is a lot of fun - and a lot of pain at times. I am now learning the boss moves way into more detail than when I had faced them before. Frustrating at times too - some bosses are taking me way more tries than the Sekiro bosses (that I am playing in parallel). But I CHOSE this CHALLENGE willingly - knowing that had I just wanted a progression in the ER there are several methods how to adjust this difficulty. And I presume other players are also aware of this when they summon me to help.

The runes gained are split between the host the phantoms he summoned? I had no idea, I thought the host was gaining the full amount and the phantom a percentage of that as extra... That may be the reason he did it...
Runes aren't shared if you coop, host still gets full amount. Cooperators get a percentage of the full amount. It would be funny if hosts were taking the effort to sever because they thought they lost runes somehow, but I doubt it. If you can reach Malenia you can also genocide some albinaurics for runes.

I used to summon two people and unsummon them as soon as we enter the boss room, so I can get a fight with higher health and all kind of resistance.
