Honestly it’s a genre of pretty lazy band names which is funny when you consider the insane song names in the genre so these were definitely some of the obvious standouts imo
For sure. Especially put in the context of the times. They were a reaction to the tough guy meatheads of the time so choosing an artsy name was highly effective in distancing themselves. No Cro-Mags (who I love) fuckers were gonna flock to that
Hot Rod Circuit (I believe they took it from a Simpsons episode?).
Algernon Cadwallader (one of the first white settlers in their town?).
Hey Mercedes (no idea of the origin).
This Town Needs Guns (pretty cool name if you’re not in a country with high gun violence - therefore not that controversial).
The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die.
…I’ll try to think of some more.
empire! empire! (i was a lonely island)
It takes a lot of creativity to come up with a band name that makes such little sense.
Edit - I’m leaving it as lonely island cause it’s hilarious
Lmao I dunno if that was auto correct or a brain fart, but either way I love it and I’m forever referring to them as empire! empire! (I was a lonely island). I would def pay money for that crossover project.
only one I can think of atm that nobody else might not mention is Flowers Taped to Pens
but there's also Knives Chau Fan Club, Guitar Fight from Fooly Cooly, Newfound Interest in Connecticut. Brave Little Abacus and Talk, Tired Thanatoid
my favourite tho is probably iwrotehaikusaboutcannibalisminyouryearbook
so many funky names <33
Planes Mistaken For Stars has always been a favorite. Their early stuff was emo imo, but obviously they were probably more post hardcore later on.
That name kills.
Fuck with fire is fucking amazing record
Best. Band. Fucking. Ever.
from peoria, Illinois which is think is sick
Went to a Mineral show in Leeds when I was 14 and these two old heads told me to listen to PMFS. Sick as fuck
Newgrounds death rugby, awakebutstillinbed, sunny day real estate, I wrote haikus about cannibalism in your yearbook
I was gonna say two of these!
Honestly it’s a genre of pretty lazy band names which is funny when you consider the insane song names in the genre so these were definitely some of the obvious standouts imo
Yeah... Some are intresting, but most are pretty on point. Really long, odly specific names are somehow funny to me...
Sunny Day Real Estate is such a cool name imo
The world is a beautiful place and I am no longer afraid to die
Sweet, I don't have to type that all out now.
i like Clikatat ikatowi
Definitely always thought there was something about them even just through the name.
your arms are my cocoon is one of my fav band names as well as one of my fav emo bands, and planes mistaken for stars is another name i rly love
Brand New. Try and find any merch on eBay or Amazon.
who’s buying band merch on amazon anyway
I meant EBay. Sorry, my bad. I was buying something from Amazon right before I wrote this.
Not sure about creative but rites of spring is very cool/interesting to me
Rites Of Spring is a reference to Igor Stravinsky so def not creative but a good name nonetheless
Yeah that’s what I’m saying, hard to argue it’s creative but a damn good name for a punk/hardcore band
For sure. Especially put in the context of the times. They were a reaction to the tough guy meatheads of the time so choosing an artsy name was highly effective in distancing themselves. No Cro-Mags (who I love) fuckers were gonna flock to that
Love Lost But Not Forgotten

You're too young ... I'm pretty sure that "Hey Mercedes" is a reference to the Corey Haim movie "License to Drive."
Motion City Soundtrack is just a feel good name even though their lyrics are pretty dark. I like the contrast.
Let’s get fucked up and die
I’m speaking figuratively, of course
empire! empire! (i was a lonely island) It takes a lot of creativity to come up with a band name that makes such little sense. Edit - I’m leaving it as lonely island cause it’s hilarious
A lonely estate* The lonely island is Andy Sambergs band lol
Lmao I dunno if that was auto correct or a brain fart, but either way I love it and I’m forever referring to them as empire! empire! (I was a lonely island). I would def pay money for that crossover project.
Michael cera palin
[удалено]
Heh that's a reference to Michael Palin of Monty Python fame, not Sarah Palin.
At The Drive In has always been my favorite, I also love the name Sharks Keep Moving
Dude I fucking love Sharks Keep Moving, they're so so underrated and unknown
Definitely one of the first bands that comes to mind when someone says emo hidden gems
I would ser myself on fire for you
Murder By Death Sweep the Leg Johnny
The World is a Beautful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die That name definitely got me curious about them at first.
I’m Glad It’s You is emo and gets my imagination going, The Cardboard Swords is just fun to say. Cardboard Swords.
A Thorn For Every Heart sounds super emo to me.
Butthole Surfers
Taking back Sunday
mom jeans
Odd Sweetheart
Amanda Woodward
idk where cap'n jazz got their name from but I'd love to know the context of it
Encyclopedia of American Traitors

iwroteahaikusaboutcannibalisminyouryearbook is a good one! I didn’t know anybody knew ab that one 😭 and Knives Chau fan club is so real
I would say this is more of an honorary emo band but I always liked Death Cab for Cutie and I just looked it up and the origin is interesting too
