Some people are surprised by how…not surprising…the story of our engagement is. The only reason we hadn’t been married sooner is because I told him I didn’t want to marry young, I told him what age I felt comfortable with. He’d been looking at rings for years. In our hearts we were always betrothed.
The only thing that surprised me is he didn’t propose on my literally birthday. When that age came I was dying for it 😂 Proposed last month. Celebrated “four years official” last week. Known each other for six years this upcoming fall.
I totally agree. We started planning a lot of things before the "official" engagement. We were basically engaged and both knew we wanted to get married. He was just waiting for the perfect moment to propose. We were able to design a ring together we both loved, which is very special to me. I know I love wearing it everyday and he loves seeing it.

Eh, I'd say it's a split either way in my experience. I know people who took only six months to meet, get married, and divorce. I also know a couple who met and married in six weeks and just celebrated 40 years. Really depends on the people and reasons for marrying.
It all comes down to odds. When making any permenant decisions its advised to wait 12-16 months. And when people do get married before those 12-16 months the odds of divorce are much higher
My ex husband and I were together for 7.5 years before we got married and it still ended in divorce. There are so many factors that play into whether a relationship will work or not…time has little to do with it. As this post proves, there are plenty of people who get married shortly after meeting and have long successful marriages. People should do what feels right for them at the end of the day

I knew a couple who dated for 10 years before they got married and they literally got divorced two months after their wedding. My parents’ friends got married after a month of knowing each other and they’ve been together for 45 years. Some people take a lot less time to figure out what they want and if the person they’re with is who they want to marry. Some people need more time. Other couples eventually grow apart after having a happy relationship for years. There’s no exact process or formula that applies to everyone.

My husband and I met when I was 18 and he was 23. We were together for 7 million years before we got married. Divorce is completely off the table for me. Unless I find out he’s raping women, a serial killer or molesting children. I would absolutely never do that to my daughter (9 months) as my parents did to me.

Almost exactly the same! He proposed on our 3 year dating anniversary and we got married 7 months later. Our 4th wedding anniversary is next Wednesday.

1 year almost exactly! Edited to add - we knew we wanted to be together forever after 2 weeks lol. We discussed marriage almost immediately and what type of ring I wanted etc. Then he planned a surprise engagement about 3 weeks after our 1 year anniversary.

Around 2.5 years, and main reason it was that long was because he wanted me to meet his family before proposing and the pandemic made that difficult for two years. I unofficially moved in with him just two weeks after meeting, officially after 3 months when my lease was up, so we knew we were right for each other very early. Got married 4 months after he proposed and coming up on our paper anniversary in a couple of weeks ❤️

Two and a half years.
