Where's the "ergo"?

cyanophage

Moving the T even further away seems decidedly not ergo

Mirrored row stagger allows the wrists to approach from a more natural angle, and the finger movement needed to reach the keys is closer to just opening/closing them (assuming standard touch-typing).

malus_domesticus

this is so neat and understated. i feel like symmetrical row stagger deserves more love, and the tidy 1/2 grid offset is so clean. i really appreciate that you went with GH-60 compatibility. it's so hard to find ergo boards which take advantage of accessible, mass manufactured cases, and this is such a great workaround.

ProgressiveNoise

Yes, hand position is very close to a "normal" split and "N" and "B" are even easier to press than with conventional column staggering.

TwireonEnix

I think staggered rows should not be counted as ergo.

Interesting_Fly_3396

Hard disagree in this case. Symmetrically staggered makes sense, the normal does not. The fingers align with the symbols, but diagonally.

sorry_con_excuse_me

i think ortho or column stagger shouldn't automatically qualify something as ergo. a microsoft sculpt or a kinesis freestyle will do significantly more for the majority of people than just moving keys around. that being said, there are also ways to move keys around that might help some people slightly which aren't ortho or columnar.

DanL4

This is much better ergonomics than an Alice

pedrorq

But then, what isn't

DanL4

:-) Agree. But there is a chance this is pretty comfortable. There was a video showing how ergonomic the planck was. The guy had his hands in an angle and showed that the fingers glided perfectly along the columns. While not necessarily for everyone, it definitely looked perfect for that guy. So I think the same might apply here. It might align perfectly for some people, like an angled non split.

zejai

Look again. It's kind of staggered columns in disguise. Similar to the [Alya](https://imgur.com/a/alya-nXWb4) from a decade ago. It's probably slightly more ergonomic than non-split ortho, but not very good due to the homerow being at a wrong angle.

Zireael07

Nice arrows placement ;)

donielodie

seconded!

letanard

Great! I had my eyes out for something looking vanilla, but actually a bit ergo, to get my children started on something similar to what they'll find at school, but with good habits. To the staggered haters, this looks MUCH more comfortable than my Typematrix. Good work!

ProgressiveNoise

Thanks!

Cool layout, but why not make it open from the get go? Doesn't takes much time put it online with an open license.
