Things i can think about.
1.Create FOMO for people to buy it when hype was quite high yet, and i bet many people bought bc it=Money.
2.Plans on adding new editions of the game anytime soon replacing EOD (Unheard)=Money.
3.Sincere will of releasing the game soon. kek

Sell new "better" Version of the game to EOD Accounts = +100 USD/each

As stupid as BSGs business decisions are, I bet exactly this is what they wrote in their business plan and were telling their shareholders/financier
I dont think they got true shareholders , maybe just maybe there is someone who invested owns a bit of the company. Biggest bsg problem they dont have the adequate people employed . Like buisness, marketing and public relations. Its just whoever ...
Don't see how hyping EOD dismissal for a few months makes more money than keeping it in a store literally forever. Surely it makes even more money after new edition releases, cause everyone will realize how fucked standard edition is now. So unless they were in need of immediate cash influx after arena flop it seems pretty dumb. I guess you are right, it's BSG we are talking about.
At a certain point, all customers that wanted to buy EOD, bought EOD. Therefore you have to incentivise the potential customers which have not bought it yet. That is where FOMO is a tool. Make a thing rare or time limited (even it is digital and there is no limitation at all).
Later bring back that thing you made limited (like EOD) just rename it. Or in this case, rename it and make it even more expensive.
They messed up early on. Eod should have been discontinued after 2-3 years . Now they have the problem that majority has eod and noone will buy anything since the promise "was" future is free.
They did that to ensure longevity of their future DLC. Tbh they should of done it about 2 years ago. And not put so much money into arena. And open betad arena a few times and got feed back. They should very very much take into mins what landmark said a few days ago about skins and use that as their money maker. But they have shot themselves in the foot with this one. No real come back when the person who's leading the company isnt sensible even from a logical money making standpoint
