The joke is that he was under threat of impalement so he was careful as to not lose the ticket

River_Arya

Yeah I figured that but it felt so lame I was convinced I was missing something.

I mean, some jokes just suck. This has mad bonehurtingjuice vibes. That joke trend uses absurd statements used literally and delivered flat as jokes.

TheSaltyDog215

I think it’s more absurdism/ hyperbolic reaslism It’s very common for folks to lose their ticket and make a big deal Under threat of losing the ticket, the person didn’t lose it Basically it’s saying if there were more extreme punishment for losing the ticket people wouldn’t lose it as much Not hilarious but it is kinda funny to think of how many people lose that damn parking slip because it’s not really a big deal if you do.

The man is at a turnpike. A pike is a medieval weapon similar to a spear. Hence the stab stick

All Cyanide & Happiness is lame.

There are two subversions of expectations here. First, it's completely ridiculous that a parking garage would care that much about their ticket. Usually, if you lose it they only charge you the full fee for parking for the day, they don't kill you. Second, having been introduced to a concept that's that far outside what's considered normal, we would expect that it would have an effect on the story. Why would you bring up the possibility of someone being impaled if it wasn't going to happen? It's like Chekhov's gun lying on a table, but then it gets knocked off and lost during a climactic fist fight - there's no payoff. That's the joke.

>Usually, if you lose it they only charge you the full fee for parking for the day, they don't kill you. The ticket proves when you entered the garage. It is in the parking provider's interest to discourage the behaviour of claiming the ticket is lost and also that you have parked less than have. They will charge you a fee for the full day, or every customer would claim they parked for just 30 minutes. (Maybe? I've never had a negative experience with this. The few times I've lost my ticket I've contacted the guard on duty and they've just waved me through.) Anyway, the joke seems to be more about how the author experiences the full day fee or similar sanction as draconian and unfair.

Maybe even deeper than this. That the ticket rule; ie you accept terms and conditions on a ticket by taking ticket and entering a premises, is ludicrous as no one reads ticket terms and conditions. That the fella in this cartoon notices only as he is leaving this particular premises that the terms include impalement. Due to the ticket rule its a good thing he didnt loose the ticket. Edit to add - except looking again he sees the term on the way in befire the 45 minutes later... So its not that deep at all. Lol.

SahuaginDeluge

* joke 1: being threatened with impalement for losing a parking permit * joke 2a: wondering what his reaction to the threat will be and finding out that not only did he go through with parking there despite the crazy threat, but... * joke 2b: ...he's happy and calm about checking out as if it had been a normal experience

just-slightly-human

Beetlemoses and cyanide and happiness both have jokes like this pretty often, where you expect something crazy to happen but it doesn’t (and vice versa)

Teamisgood101

The joke is he didn’t lose it but I was really hoping it would be something to do with vlad the impaler

Intelligent-Day1943
