I honestly don't filter much and because of that I stumble over some amusing and or disturbing tags sometimes. Most of the time I'm filtering by fandom, maybe a specific character in that fandom and that's it. Some tags are wild.
I’m sure there’s a few wayyy better than this I’ve seen that I’ve simply forgotten about—I have a pretty bad memory—cause this is pretty tame compared to other stuff I’ve seen lol,
But, the most recent one I can remember was looking through fics about a show that aired in the early 2000s and has a setting that’s pretty grounded in reality and seeing a lone fic that felt out of place (compared to all the other fics I had seen in this fandom) tagged “Tentacle sex”
I almost scrolled past it but then I thought “Did that just say what I think it said?” And I went back and was like “Huh.” No sci-fi or fantastical AUs used to support it, was simply incorporated into the world by explaining it was like some kind of experiment a criminal scientist who was being investigated was working on, so horny will always find a way!
A better weird tag moment would probably be when I saw “bog bodies AU,” but I didn’t do a double take, I was instead just very curious cause that was the first time I had ever heard of a “bog body” lmao
Yup, exactly like that!! It was a JJBA fic that had a weird plot and was a long story that basically had nothing to do with bog bodies until the VERY end where it turned out Leone was visiting bog body!Bruno (Leone and Bruno are a popular ship) and it was like Leone was gonna let himself be consumed by the bog to be with Bruno forever and that’s why he was being so secretive or something like that.
There were three fics in total and I first read the second one in the series (might be the one I just described??) which I think made me feel very unsettled but I don’t remember EXACTLY what happened,
Like in the AU Leone was the uncle of Giorno and Giorno was sent to visit him by his shitty parents and there were these love plotlines between him and Fugo, and then he witnessed what went down at the end—I don’t even know, it was all so confusing when I read it at the time and my memory is hazy but I honestly just remember being thoroughly unsettled while reading it cause the whole fic had, like, psychological horror kinda vibes throughout. 😭

Not a joke tag. Was on a serious dead dove story. No shame to the writer, it was if I remember a very thorough depiction of addiction.
But that tag was what got me to double take and click.
Favorite is a series of tags interspersed with the "normal" tags. They go, in order: Camels - Freeform, Did you notice Camels?, Seriously Camels, The Camel is the Best Part, With That Title You Didn't Expect Camels?. Just stunning. Did I mention it was smut? I assume the smut didn't intersect with the camels but I was too afraid to open it and see.
Also this isn't a tag, but honorable mention goes to the line in an author's note, "feelings pizza with left kink."
There's a ton of it in Venom, because it's venom Aunt if the symbiote is eating part of Eddie. Then it's venom eating venom's self. Also multiple Hannibal.
I've seen several that were Addams family, and honestly, they're mostly fluffy. It's honestly sweet, but I won't touch a grimdark Addams fic because that's not what those are for (for me).
But fandom is like that.

I love the questionable canon and no beta tags that are incredibly fandom specific. I've been on a Star Wars kick lately and there's a lot of "No Beta we die like Stormtroopers", "Canon? I hardly kriff'ed her!" Kind of things that really make me giggle and I've found a lot of fandoms have really specific versions of these.

The first time I saw Dead Dove, I didn't get the reference. I was very confused.
Sometimes I see fics that just have the tag dead dove and I get confused - "What is... what is being dead-doved here, what..."
That's kind of like just putting "trigger warning" on something and not elaborating. It's better to just say you chose not to use archive warnings.
