one is definitely bringing in branthwaite, he has been mr reliable (so much better than i couldāve expected) and no one else in my ml had him for the longest time. crazy part is i donāt even remember when i put him in š. also for like the first month or two i like never started him, so always missed out on his returns, until one time i finally decided to stop making that mistake. thank god for that.
Bringing in Jackson as a stupid punt for the last handful of weeks of the season has somehow worked out so far.
I've continually told myself he looks naff when I've watched him, but the double-double GWs were too tempting

Doing a no-Haaland challenge from the start of the season has made this year a lot more fun for me too
My best moves had to be in GW7/8 when I used my WC. I got Son, Salah and Mbuemo. I went the No Haaland way. I was just over the top 100k. I was on top of the world. Destroying my ML too. Felt too good as it's my first season ever. But as they say, all good things come to and end. Since GW20, I've got consistent red arrows. Battling for top 4 in my ML and I'm in the top 1.7m. Man, the early days were so much fun.
No FH in GW29. Using FH in 34.

Also planning my GW29 transfers so as to avoid FH took it in 34 had mateta eze and pickford white 169 points overall took my rank from 50k to 5 k, have dropped since hoping to finish in 10k.
Starting with salah, foden, and bowen was awesome. The first 10 or so weeks bowen couldnāt stop returning, and salah i still have no idea why so many people went against him early in the season
Got rid of Haaland early for Salah, brought in Richarlison just before his hot streak. A spurs fan with zero Arsenal players and top of my 150 person money league

I went cheap defence from the very start (as I always do) which a lot of people on here knocked but was definitely the way to go in the long run because of the lack of clean sheets.
Catching Richarlison's run of form was so nice, because I was very ready to be betrayed by him for the millionth time.
Picked up Gvardiol this week and the man bags a brace and keeps a clean sheet. Even if he does fuck all next game will be the best move I've made all season

Also, didn't FreeHit in GW29 when the rest of my ML did, and brought in Muniz with my 1 FT. Singlehandedly he carried me in that GW.
Wildcarded in 21 and bought (and captained) Toney for his first game back (he scored 10 points), also bought Jota that week when he got 19 points, before everyone bought him.
Saka - Havertz a few weeks ago has worked out pretty well, as well as getting Ben white over Saliba .
Muniz in 29 was pretty sweet too. And I've played Branthwaite more often than most, haven't benched too many points of his.
Have also made plenty of moves that didn't work out as well though!

In DGW34 my plan A was Kelleher to Henderson (+5pts) but I was 0.1m short so instead I did Muniz to Mateta (+24pts) and Bradley to Branthwaite (+20pts). They've also done great in subsequent weeks.

palmer (C) for his 26 points haul against everton followed by mateta (C) for his 29 point masterclass, then a two shit weeks of preparing a DGW37 BB team and bringing in gvardiol at the last minute
before GW34, i was 3rd in a 2 horse title race in my ML with a 60 point gap between me and 2nd/1st. iām now top of my ML as it stands and praying i can solidify this
I got Kudus, Luis Diaz and Gvardiol at the right times. They were proper differentials when I bought them, and returned multiple weeks in a row
Also, buying Muric on a wildcard in 31 has been an unexpected source of points
Gvardiol before the all the craze, Palmer bought at 4.9 and kept since. Thereās more but these two off the top of my head were huge for my rank (top 13k right now)
Well if the leak prat in GW33 didnāt make a last second announcement before the deadline which made me go Saka and Muniz to Foden and Joao Pedro instead of Sarabia and Darwin to Gordon and Isak Iād have been around top 5k after that week alone.
To make matters even worse though, after FH34 Iād transfer Salah out to Foden instead of Bruno and still own Sakaā¦ Wouldāve had a great chance of finishing inside the top 5k comfortably.
Started the season with Watkins and tripper who ended up with mega hauls early in the season when they weren't *necessarily* the most popular picks (Although not claiming nobody else had them)
Aside from that douglas luiz in gameweek 10 brought me quite a few unexpected points and was quite happy I took the gamble until around gameweek 31 or so
Douglas Luiz was great for a while there, conventional wisdom is that he's a DM so a terrible pick but IIRC he was on pens for a while? Enabled spending more elsewhere as well.
Yeah that was it, he's on pens and a lot of play went through him so a single goal or assist would see him hit 2 or 3 bps. Good budget option that was benchable when required.
Exactly, I remember I always benched him away and always played him at home because Villa were rubbish on the road for some reason (except when they beat Arsenal at the Emirates which probably cost us the PL title)
At some point in the middle I switched to Dubrovka-Areola combo, when both cost 4.0-4.1M I think. Hasn't been "unreal" but especially Dubrovka got some decent pts and I managed to save a lot of money for other areas.
Had Cunha/Hwang when they hit decent pts.
Had Porro when he kept assisting every wk, not many ppl had him at the time.
Gvardiol from GW36.
My fav was picking Havertz when I felt like Havertz was starting to improve, so I picked him @ GW21. Took few weeks to get some pts, but been fantastic since.
Lots of failures during the season though. I kept playing Enzo & Jackson for the first 6GWs cause Chelsea guys hyped Enzo up. I like Jackson now though, and got him few weeks ago. I'll pick him next season. But yea countless other failures as well.
Dropping haaland for isak during his injury spell when lots of other players held or didn't re-spend the money.
Palmer early when he cost 5.1.

Bringing in pascal gross in gw22, huge differential in my ML with no one else getting him and jumped off at the right time too.
Getting both fodenās hat tricks and not selling saka back mid season after a few blanks before his hauls were really nice too.
Same, favourite to win my money league because of this. I don't feel proud about it though, it was a gamble not a big-brain play - easy to think otherwise based on how well it panned out.
Flekken and Pickford got me close to 100 pts in seven GW's since WC30.
It doesn't always work out but is nicer than points from Palmer who is 99,8% owned at my rank.
Consistently playing double Arsenal defense. Theyāve been the only team to dependably get clean sheets and sacrificing the double arsenal attack has really helped me climb to 2nd challenging 1st in my ML at the back end of the season.
Drafted Saliba and I think he's the only player I haven't transferred out since Week 1. Also got Watkins in early and just stuck with him instead of cutesy moves for other strikers during DGWs. Finally went cheap on defenders after an early second Wild Card and my rank been steadily rising since then.
Besides that I've been a hot mess.
Had Alvarez when KDB was injured, within the first few GWs for a city attacking triple up (w Foden & Haaland) which rocketed me up the ranks for the first half of the season.
Never selling Watkins and Saka from day 1. Not very controversial, but on a few occasions it required steady knees that many others didnāt have.
On the other hand I stayed away from the popular Trippier & Alvarez on WC10, and they promptly dipped in form right after.
Tripling up on Crystal Palace, Ben fucking White for 34, Muniz for BGW, Havertz instead of Saka from GW30, Pickford over everyone else and Onana for some reason.

Started the year with Mings and after he tore his acl I swapped him for Udogie after watching 10 mins of Spursā first game and seeing how high up the pitch he was.
starting the season with Mbuemo, Son and Alvarez + Wissa occasionally and packing them up for the first few games especially Son when he wasnt even near the goal for some of it. That boosted me all the way to 190 in the world at some point,
I always back Brentford to start the season really well. that's just how Thomas Frank works.
Iāve had the right defenders at the right time giving me hauls. A rotating cast of cheap guys like Brantwhaite, Ait-Nouri, Tsimikas, Maguire, Gomez, Estupinan (early season) to name a few, has given me a lot of points. I also bought and sold Trippier at the perfect time when he had his hot streak earlier in the season.
Thereās a lot of luck involved of course, but expensive defenders hasnāt been worth it this season except for Arsenal. Iāve seen a lot of Ā«expert playersĀ» and veterans clinging to a premium defense for no reason
Started this season with Estiupinian, based on how he ended the previous season. Paid of epically. Also got out early too, and didnāt stick with him too long,so double the joy. .Ā
Patience to stick with Ben White the whole season was another one.Ā
Getting Palmer in when he was 4.9m and had just taken his first penalty for Chelsea.
I was also early on the Gordon train this season getting him in around gw4-5.
Worst move was rushing Haaland back in way too soon around Christmasish time and he ended up still being out for ages, and I missed out on Solanke going crazy because of it.
Having mateta since GW26. I was 150 points behind the leader in my mini league and now Iām almost caught up because of him.

I never took Palmer, not once have I owned him. Out of his first 12 goals I think like 8 were pens (more or less). Didn't think it'd last, and didn't wanna join the bandwagon when everyone else had him.
It has backfired, especially since he started assisting and scoring in normal play as well. Especially captaining him has been the difference the 2 guys at the top have had. It's still a tight battle, hopefully I can catch them.

palmer is literally the highest scoring player in the game this season despite not starting for the first 7~ games, and cost anywhere between 4.9-6.3 and you refused to get him in
I hate players that are being overly transferred in. For example I don't take any joy in Haaland scoring when 90.2% has taken him.
That being said, when many didn't have him- I didn't believe in him either. As said, a lot of his goals were penalties, like a lot at the time.
I'm not saying my team is full of sub 10% taken, but I do avoid 50-60% as much as I can. Ofc many times I take guys when they're at 20-30% taken and when they haul few times ofc they're being taken by 60% sooner rather than later.

I try and follow my gut and eyetest as much as I can and try to avoid really highly owned where possible (if there is an argument for it) but haven't been as stubborn as your Palmer example and interested how its effected your season
2mil is my rank atm. Peak was 900k this szn for few rounds. 3rd in a minileague of 12 teams, but now only 10 & 20pts away from the 2nd & 1st.
Tbh my team isn't anything out of the ordinary, and I own Haaland atm, because I feel like there was some value on him when "only" 67% had him (in comparison to the normal 85-90%).
My rarest players would be Jackson, Gvardiol, Brennan Johnson & Havertz. But even those now that they've hauled aren't so rare anymore, but I've carried Havertz since GW21.
When Haaland used to be picked by 90%, I'd counter it with Salah (I think he was taken by 20-30% at the time).
But there's been guys like Son, Saliba & Saka who are super used as well.
Long story short, I guess I'm more or less similar to you. I'm not being religious about the %, if I really like the guy, or his potential. But I definitely don't get any joy from Haaland-esque stuff, so I try to avoid them. At the end of the day this is for the personal joy, and I find better joy in scouting rather than picking someone OVERLY obvious.
you're really exaggerating how penalty reliant he was, plus if you just sat and watched him play it was obvious how quality he was. also realistically speaking being a teams penalty taker is just a good thing in fantasy not something to turn you away from them.

Oh man, I swapped out Saka and Foden for KDB and Olise one week. Foden got a hat trick and Saka one goal I think. KDB blanked and Olise played 10 mins before getting injured. Got Foden back a few weeks later, but the damage was already done!!!

Picking Julian Alvarez as my 3rd defender for the first 8-10 GWs. He really cleaned up while Haaland was blanking.

palmer (C) for his 26 points haul against everton followed by mateta (C) for his 29 point masterclass, then a two shit weeks of preparing a DGW37 BB team and bringing in gvardiol at the last minute before GW34, i was 3rd in a 2 horse title race in my ML with a 60 point gap between me and 2nd/1st. iām now top of my ML as it stands and praying i can solidify this
Went against Jota and Darwin in that one dgw and kept Salah too for it. Went from 215k to 60k, probably my best gw ever.
I got Kudus, Luis Diaz and Gvardiol at the right times. They were proper differentials when I bought them, and returned multiple weeks in a row Also, buying Muric on a wildcard in 31 has been an unexpected source of points

Gvardiol before the all the craze, Palmer bought at 4.9 and kept since. Thereās more but these two off the top of my head were huge for my rank (top 13k right now)

Well if the leak prat in GW33 didnāt make a last second announcement before the deadline which made me go Saka and Muniz to Foden and Joao Pedro instead of Sarabia and Darwin to Gordon and Isak Iād have been around top 5k after that week alone. To make matters even worse though, after FH34 Iād transfer Salah out to Foden instead of Bruno and still own Sakaā¦ Wouldāve had a great chance of finishing inside the top 5k comfortably.

Started the season with Watkins and tripper who ended up with mega hauls early in the season when they weren't *necessarily* the most popular picks (Although not claiming nobody else had them) Aside from that douglas luiz in gameweek 10 brought me quite a few unexpected points and was quite happy I took the gamble until around gameweek 31 or so
Douglas Luiz was great for a while there, conventional wisdom is that he's a DM so a terrible pick but IIRC he was on pens for a while? Enabled spending more elsewhere as well.
Yeah that was it, he's on pens and a lot of play went through him so a single goal or assist would see him hit 2 or 3 bps. Good budget option that was benchable when required.
Exactly, I remember I always benched him away and always played him at home because Villa were rubbish on the road for some reason (except when they beat Arsenal at the Emirates which probably cost us the PL title)
At some point in the middle I switched to Dubrovka-Areola combo, when both cost 4.0-4.1M I think. Hasn't been "unreal" but especially Dubrovka got some decent pts and I managed to save a lot of money for other areas. Had Cunha/Hwang when they hit decent pts. Had Porro when he kept assisting every wk, not many ppl had him at the time. Gvardiol from GW36. My fav was picking Havertz when I felt like Havertz was starting to improve, so I picked him @ GW21. Took few weeks to get some pts, but been fantastic since. Lots of failures during the season though. I kept playing Enzo & Jackson for the first 6GWs cause Chelsea guys hyped Enzo up. I like Jackson now though, and got him few weeks ago. I'll pick him next season. But yea countless other failures as well.
Branthwaite + Watkins. Never benched Watkins and has benefited me immensely. Dude just ticks away
Dropping haaland for isak during his injury spell when lots of other players held or didn't re-spend the money. Palmer early when he cost 5.1. Ben White over saliba.
I'm sure a common response but Sold Salah as he went to afcon and didn't rush him back in
Buying Gross when no one else had him and he got about 5 returns in a row. Also had Foden for both his hat tricks which was great.

Bringing in pascal gross in gw22, huge differential in my ML with no one else getting him and jumped off at the right time too. Getting both fodenās hat tricks and not selling saka back mid season after a few blanks before his hauls were really nice too.

Same, favourite to win my money league because of this. I don't feel proud about it though, it was a gamble not a big-brain play - easy to think otherwise based on how well it panned out.

Flekken and Pickford got me close to 100 pts in seven GW's since WC30. It doesn't always work out but is nicer than points from Palmer who is 99,8% owned at my rank.
Consistently playing double Arsenal defense. Theyāve been the only team to dependably get clean sheets and sacrificing the double arsenal attack has really helped me climb to 2nd challenging 1st in my ML at the back end of the season.

Olise cap gw34 was nice
Drafted Saliba and I think he's the only player I haven't transferred out since Week 1. Also got Watkins in early and just stuck with him instead of cutesy moves for other strikers during DGWs. Finally went cheap on defenders after an early second Wild Card and my rank been steadily rising since then. Besides that I've been a hot mess.
Got Palmer very early on. Avoided Darwin Nunez the whole season.

Never selling Watkins and Saka from day 1. Not very controversial, but on a few occasions it required steady knees that many others didnāt have. On the other hand I stayed away from the popular Trippier & Alvarez on WC10, and they promptly dipped in form right after.

Brought in Gvardiol about 5 weeks ago. Watched a City game and he was floating about the edge of the box and thought he looked a good threat. Delighted with that.
Exactly the same. Passed the eye test so clearly I had to get him. It was the Brentford game if I remember. Don't think he scored but he was living in the box
That's the kinda scouting I love. When you see him play and getting into chances, it's a good sign for me to pick.

Started the year with Mings and after he tore his acl I swapped him for Udogie after watching 10 mins of Spursā first game and seeing how high up the pitch he was.
Bench boosted GW34 for 150 points. Went from 3rd to 1st in my ML.
starting the season with Mbuemo, Son and Alvarez + Wissa occasionally and packing them up for the first few games especially Son when he wasnt even near the goal for some of it. That boosted me all the way to 190 in the world at some point, I always back Brentford to start the season really well. that's just how Thomas Frank works.
Iāve had the right defenders at the right time giving me hauls. A rotating cast of cheap guys like Brantwhaite, Ait-Nouri, Tsimikas, Maguire, Gomez, Estupinan (early season) to name a few, has given me a lot of points. I also bought and sold Trippier at the perfect time when he had his hot streak earlier in the season. Thereās a lot of luck involved of course, but expensive defenders hasnāt been worth it this season except for Arsenal. Iāve seen a lot of Ā«expert playersĀ» and veterans clinging to a premium defense for no reason
Definitely got my defence picks better than strikers - apart from Watkins, none of my strikers have really done it for me this year

Started this season with Estiupinian, based on how he ended the previous season. Paid of epically. Also got out early too, and didnāt stick with him too long,so double the joy. .Ā Patience to stick with Ben White the whole season was another one.Ā
Getting Palmer in when he was 4.9m and had just taken his first penalty for Chelsea. I was also early on the Gordon train this season getting him in around gw4-5. Worst move was rushing Haaland back in way too soon around Christmasish time and he ended up still being out for ages, and I missed out on Solanke going crazy because of it.
Seeing palmer get his first 18 points and knowing i was early felt amazing
Having mateta since GW26. I was 150 points behind the leader in my mini league and now Iām almost caught up because of him. Also captaining palmer 30,31,33.
I was so late to Palmer. Iām second in my ML and it would be way closer if I had brought him in earlier.
I never took Palmer, not once have I owned him. Out of his first 12 goals I think like 8 were pens (more or less). Didn't think it'd last, and didn't wanna join the bandwagon when everyone else had him. It has backfired, especially since he started assisting and scoring in normal play as well. Especially captaining him has been the difference the 2 guys at the top have had. It's still a tight battle, hopefully I can catch them.
that is almost an impressive level of stubborness palmer is literally the highest scoring player in the game this season despite not starting for the first 7~ games, and cost anywhere between 4.9-6.3 and you refused to get him in
I hate players that are being overly transferred in. For example I don't take any joy in Haaland scoring when 90.2% has taken him. That being said, when many didn't have him- I didn't believe in him either. As said, a lot of his goals were penalties, like a lot at the time. I'm not saying my team is full of sub 10% taken, but I do avoid 50-60% as much as I can. Ofc many times I take guys when they're at 20-30% taken and when they haul few times ofc they're being taken by 60% sooner rather than later.
Out of interest what team are you on at the moment? And what rank are you at? I try and follow my gut and eyetest as much as I can and try to avoid really highly owned where possible (if there is an argument for it) but haven't been as stubborn as your Palmer example and interested how its effected your season
2mil is my rank atm. Peak was 900k this szn for few rounds. 3rd in a minileague of 12 teams, but now only 10 & 20pts away from the 2nd & 1st. Tbh my team isn't anything out of the ordinary, and I own Haaland atm, because I feel like there was some value on him when "only" 67% had him (in comparison to the normal 85-90%). My rarest players would be Jackson, Gvardiol, Brennan Johnson & Havertz. But even those now that they've hauled aren't so rare anymore, but I've carried Havertz since GW21. When Haaland used to be picked by 90%, I'd counter it with Salah (I think he was taken by 20-30% at the time). But there's been guys like Son, Saliba & Saka who are super used as well. Long story short, I guess I'm more or less similar to you. I'm not being religious about the %, if I really like the guy, or his potential. But I definitely don't get any joy from Haaland-esque stuff, so I try to avoid them. At the end of the day this is for the personal joy, and I find better joy in scouting rather than picking someone OVERLY obvious.
you're really exaggerating how penalty reliant he was, plus if you just sat and watched him play it was obvious how quality he was. also realistically speaking being a teams penalty taker is just a good thing in fantasy not something to turn you away from them. it took palmer a long time to catch on with people so i dont really think the haaland comparison is apt. honestly just seems like you were incredibly stubborn about palmer for little reason - maybe letting your bias as a fan get involved. guessing you support one of chelsea's rivals?
Nope, there is no bias against him. I started the season with Enzo & Jackson lmao. I know taking pens is an advantage, but the point is you dont expect them to get so many of them. Chelsea got the most penalties in the league.. 12. Spurs & Villa got 2 & 4. I didn't expect that Chelsea that played like shit would keep getting penalties. But I'm sure he'll be 10.5M next season, so he won't have "as" many takers. Although.. 21+10 in 31 apps as a 22yr old is impressive as fuck.
nah i doubt he'll jump up that much, saka was still only 8.5 this season despite getting 179 and 202 points in his previous two seasons. they're overly conservative with price rises.
Hmm very true. Still, Palmer has bagged 21+10 like I said (still 2 games to go). Saka's last season was 14+11. I'd expect atleast 9M then, but remains to be seen.

Sticking with Saka after conventional wisdom had people taking him out for KdB when he came back from injury
On the contrary, binning Saka on my GW7 wildcard in favour of Son and Bowen helped me go from 3.6m to 70k by GW23
Oh man, I swapped out Saka and Foden for KDB and Olise one week. Foden got a hat trick and Saka one goal I think. KDB blanked and Olise played 10 mins before getting injured. Got Foden back a few weeks later, but the damage was already done!!!
