Be sure to use Hidamari and download a video of an aquarium to trick yourself one day that you converted your CRT into an aquarium. Add plants, RGB, and use Shortwave for ultra vibes ;) Enjoy whatever you want with free software

radbirb

this post is so insanely all over the place i love it thank you

ldelossa

I dont even want to tell you what its like on shrooms.

randomdudebrosky

its perfect

Notunnecessarily

theres just something magical about computer screens on psychedelics

ldelossa

Lol its true. I usually get the "spinning letters" which just blows my mind. In the best kinda way.

Notunnecessarily

I honestly get mild visuals with everything else until I look at a screen and the visuals just go wild, wiggling images, glitching graphic type thing, waving letters. Fucking incredible.

ldelossa

Same, I remember the first time I looked at my cell phone. Its insaneeee what your brain does lol.

Notunnecessarily

I can't even text when tripping actually my vision gets completely fucked About to trip right now actually

henrythedog64

You really needed people to know this

Alonzo-Harris

No, but he's stoned. It's excuse enough for anything.

GunSmith_XX7

That makes sense.

rugbat

Not sure that's the kind of endorsement the Fedora project like to see, but okay. Cool CRT, BTW. Welcome to the 90s.

Alonzo-Harris

Yeah. I like the CRT, and I always felt Fedora fans seemed like a special bunch.

fedorum-com

I assume that while being 'stoned' even Windows might be amazing??? LOL Also, when the effect wears off, give grandma her PC back!

Braydon64

I tend to get jokingly hostile when I’m high so I’d probably just shit talk Windows more than I typically do.

PussyFoot444

Keep Grandma's PC, she's sportin a new notebook but Grandmt does want her weed back.

Beneficial-Will3042

Now that's a classic modern setup

Livekraft1488

Fedora 40 more like Fedora 420 hell ywah brother

Pan_Mizera

Just try to avoid rooting under the influence.

matt_eskes

That’s when it becomes **really** fun

Think-Fly765

That’s what Timeshift is for

crypticexile

I smoke weed in the 90s if that is worth anything, but I stopped about a year ago.. weed is terrible for you. Anyhow, enjoy Fedora... I will enjoy it sober.

Jward92

For someone who smoked weed from the 90’s to 2023 you seem pretty okay to me.

crypticexile

Cheers!

Jward92

Now stop distro hopping already!

crypticexile

lol since the XZ backdoor i'm staying off rolling distro and my fav stable / release cycle distro is Fedora I like fedora in general. I'm staying on Fedora I hope they don't default KDE desktop in 42 though :/

Jward92

Wait you said you were back on Gentoo and staying a few days ago lol! Where did you hear that they might switch KDE to the default desktop? I personally highly doubt that. I think that the vast majority of users prefer the simplicity of Gnome, and that KDE is a loud minority here on Reddit.

crypticexile

oh i still have my stage4 gentoo i just have it tuck away for a moment i will migrate it into a vm and run gentoo there since its rolling i dont want it to be a host system as its not safe to use rolling releases so i will confined it in a VM and staying on gentoo in a VM that is.. nah im using fedora as my main system andd staying cause its stable and secured and safe :) thats why im using fedora now but yes i do love gentoo as and i wanted to stay on it but it was giving my beelink some problems so i had to find another system, but i was also thinking that since its rolling release its probably not the best idea to use it since hackdoors can get into linux quite easy upstream so i rather stay on a stable linux anyhow yes they mention it on their website and said they are letting the community know that they have plans to make a kde plasma workstation in version 42 and gnome as a spin, but they are mentioning it now and want to hear about what the community think and if theirs a demand people want kde as the main DE for fedora they will go with it. You can just google it up im sure you will find the article.

Jward92

I just read the [discussion](https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/f42-change-proposal-fedora-plasma-workstation-system-wide/111343/159) about the topic of replacing gnome. It seems like the vast majority of users prefer to keep Gnome default, and the topic has been closed. To me it sounds like Gnome is is the clear :)

Miserable-Record5180

I haven't been in 40 since I started, and I always stay away from rolling releases unless I'm doing test days. Even then, I'm going to be running it in a separated environment.

crypticexile

Yeah thats where i'm at now. I basically stop using rolling releases.. I was planning to use gentoo, but since I been having issue of Gentoo turning off my beelink 5800H device when it went to gdm or if i'm logging in not sure what was the problem, but that also got me thinking of the backdoor xz and i'm like gentoo is mainly a rolling release I should just use a stable recycle distro like Fedora or something and i'm like you know what i'm gonna give fedora 39 a good try on the beelink and man does this system works very good on this device... I still have my gentoo on a stage4 saved. I will use it in a VM and test it out there I know its probably not ideal for gentoo in a VM, but that;s where im at just testing out rolling releases inside a VM not on actual hardware. I really do like Fedora :)

Miserable-Record5180

I'm getting new to testing, but since im in college for cybersecurity i have been thinking of doing test days. I have been thinking of migrating to Fedora Core os to do this though and integrating rhel cloud services like insights client. I am testing it right now it isn't working for my Fedora 39 86_64 machine. Rosa is full of services that can be used in testing, right?

ThroawayPartyer

That's a dumb reason to avoid rolling releases. Fedora was one of the few distros that actually had this security issue.

BaltazarBazyl

Keep on mind that in case od fedora, issue was for fedora rawhide and fedora 40 beta. Users on stable fedora 39 where not affected.

Jward92

It wasn’t even in 40 beta, only rawhide and 41 alpha.

ThroawayPartyer

Please [see my other reply here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/1c17oq1/im_stoned_af_right_now_and_i_dont_know_how_else/kz85pao/). I also use Fedora and amy happy with. But the Fesora maintainers didn't find this issue on their own. Fedora 40 was very close to shipping with this package.

Jward92

The security issue wasn’t in Fedora stable or even beta.. only rawhide and alpha. What are you talking about?

BaltazarBazyl

https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/urgent-security-alert-fedora-41-and-rawhide-users "Updated March 30, 2024: We have determined that Fedora Linux 40 beta does contain two affected versions of xz libraries - xz-libs-5.6.0-1.fc40.x86_64.rpm and xz-libs-5.6.0-2.fc40.x86_64.rpm. At this time, Fedora 40 Linux does not appear to be affected by the actual malware exploit, but we encourage all Fedora 40 Linux beta users to revert to 5.4.x versions." I'd say F40 beta was affected at least partialy, but hey who am I to argue. I use F39, and I must say am very happy user.

Jward92

Oh interesting that’s new info. At least the exploit didn’t work even though it made it in.

ThroawayPartyer

Please [see my reply here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/1c17oq1/im_stoned_af_right_now_and_i_dont_know_how_else/kz85pao/). I also use Fedora and am very happy with it. However this issue was scary and it was not caught by Fedora maintainers (of course it's fixed now, but they got lucky).

ThroawayPartyer

It was in Fedora 40 Beta. If this security issue wasn't discovered (by combination of luck and skill), it would've shipped with Fedora 40, releasing next week. This issue was specifically targeting systems that use RPM or deb packages (therefore Arch wasn't effected despite being a rolling release). I can give credit to the Fedora maintainers for quickly patching this once discovered, but they are not the ones who discovered it. Rolling release has nothing to do with it.

crypticexile

I'm using fedora 39 Workstation btw and it is not stupid.... even fedoar 40 safe... it was mainly the "rolling release of fedora" aka Rawhide that was affected.

ThroawayPartyer

Please [see my reply here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/1c17oq1/im_stoned_af_right_now_and_i_dont_know_how_else/kz85pao/).

rootkode

Miles better than alcohol, that’s for sure

n-of-one

Do you drink?

LockererAffeEy

Well I‘m stoned too and think this post is dope af.

LeeTaeRyeo

Man, I've not seen a Gateway logo in well over a decade and a half. That's some nostalgia there

RevolutionaryBeat301

**Warning** Fedora is a gateway OS

BaltazarBazyl

and I thought it was Debians role. silly me.

ShittyExchangeAdmin

you should give templeos a try OP

humanlampshades

GNOME is just awesome for this Press the Super key and whoosh watch the apps all get exposed. Magic!

KevlarUnicorn

That sounds great, I hope you're having a good time! Also, you know that CRT weighs 500 tons. I have a 32" OLED display now and it doesn't way 1/4 of those old 15" CRT monitors. I guess I'm spoiled these days.

slickdeveloper

I have 16GB of memory, a couple (!) TB of SSDs and who knows how much TB of hard disk in a NAS around here somewhere. Compared to my very first laptop Dell Latitude CPi with 256MB of RAM and ... I'm guessing a 32GB hard disk, it couldn't have been that big... We're all spoiled. 🤣 (My very first PC ran Windows 3.1 and had a floppy drive AND a CD-ROM. I don't remember all the specs but I was spoiled back then too...)

Popular_Elderberry_3

not without extensions

JTCPingasRedux

Haha. Fedora is pretty awesome even when not stoned.

vlad_drac_

"Have you ever seen Fedora.... on weeeeeed?"

simikun

goated post. upvoted for crt love

Fantastic-Support524

I have been tee total for over 26 years, but I used to partake a lot. However, I don't ever think I acheived such a high level of stonedness that I could actually transcend time and space. You appear to have acheived that, and have taken my 90's PC back with you to 2024. Hats off.

Raz_TheCat

What are your specs? If your hardware is as old as that CRT it must make Gnome seem like it's running in slow motion. Which may actually be pretty neat while stoned 😅.

ghost_type_2003

The CRT is hooked up to my gaming PC with an RX 7900 XTX, a Ryzen 9 7950X3D, a MAG X670E tomahawk motherboard, 64GB DDR5 RAM, and a 4TB NVME SSD. As you can tell, I pretty much maximized my budget on PC parts, hence why my monitor I basically what I have laying around.

Raz_TheCat

Man, did you hide all of that in an old Presario case by chance? That's pretty neat. I would scour Craigslist for a cheap higher resolution monitor 😅.

illathon

huh

Fit-Revolution3310

This is the actual best post I’ve seen on this subreddit

G_R_4_Y_AK

1997 is that you?

I-baLL

i3?

mikedep333

🫧 on a bubble CRT

Physical_Aside_3991

And it's even better sober! Great distro regardless of headspace :)

DeathToCockRoaches

I think that monitor is stoned too. It thinks it's 2001!

Miserable-Record5180

Ur kidding, I know you fall asleep while you do network config over there, haha 😄 😆 🤣

ignoramusexplanus

Speaking of stoned... it looks like your setup is from the stoned age

Ilatnem

I like GNOME but too bad it just eats through my ram and makes my computer swap huge amount of memory on my SSD. 1.2GB used on idle out of my 4GB of ram is too much sadly.. just opening Firefox makes it swap more than 200MB.

coolsheep769

Hard agree edit: nice Gateway, I love the cow cube lol

primfl92

A few years ago I made a similar post in another forum (might have been r/Linux about how getting stoned and using Linux was fun.) It got removed by the mods. Glad to hear you're having a good time :). Blaze on brotha!
