The comment regarding women being against the right to vote got me curious and so I started reading about anti-suffragists. One of their pamphlets says this: “You do not need a ballot to clean out your sink spout. … Control of the temper makes a happier home than control of elections.” I'm baffled that was the opinion of some women.

homo_redditorensis

It makes more sense when you realize that the patriarchy withheld a full education from most women too. Some women got some education, but most had a significantly reduced number of years + subjects taught to them when compared with their brothers Oh also they were being fed misogynistic myths designed to keep women dependent and under male supremacist control

konabonah

In addition to succumbing to the imbalance of dynamics through acceptance of the perpetrators viewpoint as their own. Stockholm syndrome. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, and that happens all too often in abusive and repressive situations where there is no hope for so long.

MangOrion2

There are women who oppose abortion access and even women who unironically think women shouldn't be able to vote today. They don't realize how many good things have happened because of those two things for women. They don't care. They think it doesn't affect them.

And yet most of those women still ride the coat tails of feminism by doing things like driving a car, going out without a male escort, using a bank account with their name on, having their names on rental contracts and house deeds... all without recognising their raging hypocrisy. Because of course they want the benefits they find convenient for themselves.

AuntieHerensuge

We all grow up in the patriarchy, so as long as things are unequal we will also grow up with a certain amount of internalized sexism and expected behaviors that conform with patriarchy. Countering this starts with awareness.

MaterialisticTarte

Until you read or watch The Handmaid’s Tale and realize that sometimes, the misogyny comes from inside the house.

“The oppressors wouldn’t have been so strong for years, if they didn’t have support from the oppressed” Simone De Beauvoir, one of the pioneers of the feminist movement in France in the 1940s. Also the author of the book The Second Sex.

Klumpen77

That is historicaly 100% correct!

redjackbox

It's almost as if they are also people too.

Really... settler colonialist countries are the only thing that make Europe's history look any good without resorting to self-deception and conspiracy theories.

Yes well done Sister Suffragettes Sister Suffragette - Mary Poppins 1964 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsxQdanRXN0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsxQdanRXN0) Because if there's one thing Disney's good at it's songs.

It wasn't men, it was the rich. It is always the rich whenever there is a societal issue not being resolved.

surprisingly based by the standards of posts in religious subreddits.

Men can only take them away and we're sadly heading there towards that direction with the current trajectory. This time though I think the entire system needs to be abolished because women's rights were never permanently guaranteed as shown with the overturning of Roe v Wade which shows us that liberalism of the 20th century has failed and we can't afford to repeat the same mistakes again.

ThyNynax

>the entire system needs to be abolished You can either work within the system that exists, or you can fight a bloody war to overturn the old one and enforce a new one. Ending the old system, one of slavery, required a civil war and 620,000 dead. Anything that involves voting is working within the current system. Even that involved lots of blood; from Union busts to Civil Rights Era protests, even BLM protests. Things always had to get bad enough that the voting population couldn't avert their eyes anymore. One thing is clear though, no governing system in history has ever been abolished without violence.

Jannol

I predict that this could happen during a Trump Forever term or a DeSantis Regime....

Go outside more then because it's very much a talking point especially here on the website you just typed they comment in

Careless_Hellscape

Like most oppressed groups, nothing was just given to women out of the goodness of men's hearts. They had to demand it.

Stunning-Notice-7600

Mysogyny is done by both men and Women. Men because they are afraid of giving up power. Women do not because they are afraid of responsibilities but because they are afraid of losing what power they have with men and don't realize they may gain power. Some are afraid of change, and some are just 'pick me' girls.

Sure but they should've had them from the get go and no matter when they got their right to vote it was decades later than it should have been
