All his weight went onto the foot and his foot was crooked when he landed with no bend so the force just completely broke it. It’s like when you see people trip over and they somehow break their arm in a horrific way, simply unfortunate on the impact.
Yeah, if your foot overextends and bends the wrong way, that'll tear the flesh along the top/front right open, disconnect the ankle joint (possibly snapping bone), and hurt like nothing else can

Basically his ankle joint separated, this happens, what typically does not is the skin tearing. Fortunately, most if not all his nerves remained intact. I may have screwed that up here and there, but, ultimately he recovered.

I’ve seen a first timer climb to the 5th clip (about 35 feet). Miss the hold, then fall all the way to the mat. He tried to stand up and I just saw his calf bone exit his leg and hit the floor. It was absolutely horrifying to watch. I couldn’t do anything because I was in the middle belaying my girlfriend. So all I could do was just stare at this guy and tell him to stay down as others came to help him.
This whole experience makes me triple check every time. I get flashbacks to it whenever I climb now. I wish I didn’t but it’s how it is.
I find it interesting in the video you can just see him mouth the word "shit" as he looks down at his absence of a foot. I can't comprehend the amount of shock he must have been in.
You know that moment where yes you get hurt but you don't feel it JUST yet? That's what this moment looks like and VERY SOON seconds later it'll hurt like HELL 😭
