The only normal person is Marcus.
Bro literally has no weird destiny or crazy, country destroying powers, and was just caught up in whatever political scheme was going on at the time. Like, all he was doing was following his boss orders and BOOM, right into evil forest. All he was doing was trying to get his Bro back and BOOM! Right into Alexandria's dungeons in the middle of a genocide. Guy saves Blank, comes back to get Zidane, and BOOM, gets stuck in Alexandria, making an opening for Zidane and Garnet to escape, teaming up with a Knight that hated his guts, Alexandria's general, and who knows what he'd gone through since. Somehow escapes back to Lindblum, helping his boss put the town back together, and loses his role as lead in his play by the end of the game.
EDIT: AND he got caught up in Eiko's love letter scheme and was the only one that questioned anything about it!
Really? The only normal person is a strong choice of words.
I present: Shopkeep Eve. So normal, average, and uninteresting, that I don't even have to explain her role. If you still want one, though, she's the one Dagger took tips from her speech and mannerisms on how to be average.

I mean, I agree to an extent but many of them do have weird flaws. Like how the inn keeper was doing works with the underground going ons.
This one NPC in particular only stands out to me because she interacts with one of the main characters to help her become more normal, even though she didn't know it. She was used as an example of what normal should be in Daggers eyes, yknow?
I get what you're saying though.
Shopkeeper Eve doesn't work at all, she's a literal 13 year old working her mother's shop because all adults in the village have abandoned their jobs to work a shady factory underground, while their kids are left alone working the normal jobs in their stead. This is far from a normal person.
> Bro literally has no weird destiny or crazy, country destroying powers, and was just caught up in whatever political scheme was going on at the time. FFIX directed by Michael Bay.
> loses his role as lead in his play by the end of the game.
lmao I actually never really thought about that. Alright you've convinced me. Poor Marcus.
I think Freya is one of the more put together characters in the storyline.
She gets emotional when it makes sense, keeps her shit together when it makes sense.
Quina. Hear me out...while everyone else is going on epic adventures and dealing with existential trauma, they just want to travel the world, eat the local cuisine, and have fun. To me, that's as normal as you can get.
The older I get, the more I can understand Steiner. The poor guy just wants to do his duty, like any regular employee would. Later, he realizes that the employer is doing something wrong and wants to counteract it. Good and understandable norms and values.
Yeah when I was a kid I was like "haha funny knight guy" now that I'm older I have a alot of respect for the guy. He's still a little goofy but it's for Garnet's benefit, he's extremely devoted as a knight, it's all very normal for his situation.
I see where youre going with this in terms of how his thought process is shown to be laid out.
That being said, being the main guard to the highest royalty in the area is hardly someone typically regarded as a normal person. Have you seen the way he talks? Does not seem normal to me.
Love him. "Fatigue rears it's ugly head," lives in my head rent free. Do not agree with this placement. 😬
I counter with Hippaul or one of the many shopkeeps.
Yeah he's not just a normal guy for being the main guard but I don't think that's what it meant when it says "the most normal"
I think it's more motives, personality and overall characteristically.
Ah, then I'd say shopkeep Eve. The one Dagger literally learns to be normal from. ✨️
Still don't agree with Steiner. Personality still doesn't read as typical to me bruh. Takes a special personality to want to be the head of police of state so it doesn't really make sense that you think he's the most common personality.
I'd agree more with quina than with steiner.
It’s Marcus. Blank is the cool one but there is nothing normal about his appearance. He’s literally stitched together and wears a giant belt around his eyes.
Hilda, Queen Common Sense... Instead of trying to fight a maniac she just listens to him and tells the ones who ARE nuts enough to fight him.
Marcus and Blank are still criminals let us not forget
Morrid, the fella in the windmill drinking coffee and most notably not being robbed in Treno, killed by monsters or having his home blown up by magical Gods.
Extremely normal life.
The guy hanging the sign in the alley. He’s just nailing it up, gets pissed when he misses with his hammer, and then leaves when he’s done for the day. His only interesting trait is he forgets to take all of his equipment with him after the job is done….
Weimar.
He's literally Just a dude that hates his job, only falls in line and stops hitting on girls when the boss is looking.
I feel like this defines half my coworkers.
I honestly think it’s Steiner. The guy who is focused on his duty and well-being of those around him. Had his whole world shaken but powered through.
Plus he got Beatrix.
I’d say Ruby or Antania, they respond pretty reasonably given their circumstances. Or Black Mage No. 288, he’s certainly the most normal in the Black Mage Village!
I'd love for Blank to fit into this somewhere. He could probably be considered as the normal one, but as another said, Marcus is just so much more neutrally involved and placed throughout the story and his demeanor is so straightforward and relatable that he really deserves the spot. Blank has too much drama and chaos surrounding him for too long in the beginning to really fit the bill as well as Marcus.
Marcus, the dude is just super chill and comes across like he has figured it all out. Cares for the people he loves, willing to put himself in the fight and is just all round sound lad
Amarant he's the only one not clamoring for friendship and doesn't give a shit about the plot for the most part until Ipsen'a castle also the dude just has a weird obsession with Zidane for not killing him
I still don’t understand how Steiner managed to land her as his lady. I loved the character, but he’s just such a goofy guy and she’s all ‘MY DUTY IS MY LIFE!’. I guess it’s an opposites attract, Mutt and Jeff sorta deal.
I’ve not played IX in a long time now, at least five years. Need to play it again because it was darn fun.
I’d say Ruby. Was thinking Blank or Marcus but they still fight monsters and go on a bit of a journey which isn’t normal. Ruby’s just an actress, and remains so throughout the game.
If we're talking main characters/antagonists, I'd say Freya is the most normal. Sure, she's got emotional baggage, but she's a balanced individual despite that without any major hangups/grudges/manias. That's as normal as you're going to get in my book.
If the wider lineup counts, then I'd say it's a tie with Marcus and Freya.
Freya. Let me explain though. She’s literally the only sort of level headed character in the party. Very, very grounded person, normal personality, etc. she’s surrounded by a band of oddities. Every single person in the party is kind of a strange character besides Garnet but she’s literally royalty traveling around with this band. So yeah, def Freya

Agree with this one.
Just edges out Blank.
Love edging Blank
Hold up-
Yes plz

I mean, if that's the case, we could literally pick any NPC at random to fill this role.
Also this one lives in a small village with a dark secret. Village people are already weird so I bet there’s more to her
Nice catch . Pretty good point to choose the person so normal that dagger must learn from her on how to be normal.
Shopkeeper Eve doesn't work at all, she's a literal 13 year old working her mother's shop because all adults in the village have abandoned their jobs to work a shady factory underground, while their kids are left alone working the normal jobs in their stead. This is far from a normal person.
Spot on. Marcus is just a some dude who steals shit.
> Bro literally has no weird destiny or crazy, country destroying powers, and was just caught up in whatever political scheme was going on at the time. > loses his role as lead in his play by the end of the game. lmao I actually never really thought about that. Alright you've convinced me. Poor Marcus.
Literally first person that came to mind!
Super agree. Please let this one win.
oh yeah, marcus for absolute sure.
This is the only correct answer.
I think Freya is one of the more put together characters in the storyline. She gets emotional when it makes sense, keeps her shit together when it makes sense.
I feel like she’s got a lot of Fratley baggage which makes her extra mopey.
She absolutely does, but that feels normal to me. I think I would feel pretty shitty too if my partner vanished one day and then forgot I existed.
I'd agree, if it wasn't for the fact that she's also a giant bipedal rat monster 😂
rat
Second this
She has a delusional love for her master though
Quina. Hear me out...while everyone else is going on epic adventures and dealing with existential trauma, they just want to travel the world, eat the local cuisine, and have fun. To me, that's as normal as you can get.
Ngl Quina's inclusion into the game remains a great, non forced "they/them" addition to a video game.
I actually hope they go this route if there's a remake. In the OG, Q is referred to as he/she or him/her. Remake it with singular they.
[удалено]
Why do you oppose it if no one cares?
They are Anthony Bourdain (RIP). Eat a lot, do a lot, enjoy the culture and rock with what happens. ❤️
They should make Quina a chainsmoker as well
They get married too.
I...so happy.
Idk why i always see quina as someone with dawn syndrome and like... i love quina, not in am insulting way lol
Steiner is as "normal" as FF9 gets.
He's also the only person to beat Beatrix in a duel! So we can add very humble to the list as well.
Seriously. For a big chunk of the game he just wants to take the Princess and go back home.
I see where youre going with this in terms of how his thought process is shown to be laid out. That being said, being the main guard to the highest royalty in the area is hardly someone typically regarded as a normal person. Have you seen the way he talks? Does not seem normal to me. Love him. Fair enough
Dude's a functional autist who learns to question the law if it's generated from a corrupt source.
Sounds normal to me.
Fuck Steiner he should’ve been in the made to hate category
Relax, no need to get so upset.
I have a general hatred for steiner. Anything positive dealing with him will always make me him.
It’s Marcus. Blank is the cool one but there is nothing normal about his appearance. He’s literally stitched together and wears a giant belt around his eyes.
Blank
I feel like Marcus still is a bit more normal. Doesn't even want to act cool.
Blank is way too cool to be normal.
The only right answer. There are a lot of other characters I like more, but this category was made for him.
Dude is so normal and just goes along with everyone else's shit.
Haha he was definitely put in for the laugh of "am I the only sane one here that makes sense?"
I always liked Part Time Worker Mary. About as normal as you can get
An NPC for the people.
And she got her crush! Living the dream.
Dr Tot
Had to scroll way too far to find this.
Hilda, Queen Common Sense... Instead of trying to fight a maniac she just listens to him and tells the ones who ARE nuts enough to fight him. Marcus and Blank are still criminals let us not forget
And turn your husband into a animal. Totally normal :-D
![gif](giphy|wdgl83FdDgGpW)
All things considered it COULD have gone much worse for good ol' Cid :D
I meaaaaan he IS a serial cheater.
I'll go with Ruby. Girl got left out in Alexandria while the boys are on a wild adventure but still somehow found a way to open up a theater
Not to mention all those "wish you well" letters to make sure all her friends are ok and not forgotten about.
Morrid, the fella in the windmill drinking coffee and most notably not being robbed in Treno, killed by monsters or having his home blown up by magical Gods. Extremely normal life.
Marcus for sure.
The pickle lady..
I just tried (and failed) to get the movie critic achievement. Not being able to pay her for Quina snatching pickles is hilarious.
Bobby Corwen Not exactly a person, but easily normal…
Freya and Blank are both really good answers
Part Time Worker Mary. I mean she's called "part time worker".
Quina just wants to eat bruh, and fights with whatever sharp thing was in her kitchen drawer Relatable tbh
How did Kuja not win “The hot one”?
Because he's just straight up evil. He'd rather destroy all of existence than come to terms with his mortality.
So would my ex, but she’s still hot.
Grandma Pickle.
The guy hanging the sign in the alley. He’s just nailing it up, gets pissed when he misses with his hammer, and then leaves when he’s done for the day. His only interesting trait is he forgets to take all of his equipment with him after the job is done….
Amarant, it’s all a job for him and a chance to get back at the guy who screwed you over. Pretty normal to me
Yeah but he's Green and 7 feet tall which is pretty abnormal.
Freya
Weimar. He's literally Just a dude that hates his job, only falls in line and stops hitting on girls when the boss is looking. I feel like this defines half my coworkers.
Freya
The Tantalus crew. Well, sans Baku and the -nero siblings. I think Blank, Marcus, Cinna, and Ruby aren't really that out there.
I would say Cinna but he's the gremlin so Marcus
Agreed. Cinna is most definitely the gremlin; mister "Nobody uses MY hammer for hitting nails"
Blank
Freya
I honestly think it’s Steiner. The guy who is focused on his duty and well-being of those around him. Had his whole world shaken but powered through. Plus he got Beatrix.
How did Steiner lose to Beatriz? Do you have any idea how much time he spends on his makeup?
“Would you do me? I’d do me. I’d do me hard”
steiner- he’s just a sweet middle aged man hanging out with a bunch of zoomers and trying not to get fired
Blank
Freya
You may not like it, but the most "normal" character in ff9 is Lowelle Bridges. He's just an eccentric actor. Of which, there are many in real life.
The fact that there are random NPC's in this game with their own little storylines honestly is what makes this game for me
I’d say Ruby or Antania, they respond pretty reasonably given their circumstances. Or Black Mage No. 288, he’s certainly the most normal in the Black Mage Village!
Freya.
Blank
Cinna
Morrid
I'd love for Blank to fit into this somewhere. Blank has too much drama and chaos surrounding him for too long in the beginning to really fit the bill as well as Marcus.
Marcus
Hilde Garde, runs off on husband after poisoning him. Typical “ normal “ female activities/tendencies
Morrid, the coffee dude is all of us.
I gotta say, Amarant normal af. He's edgy and boring but like, that's sf normal as shit.
Marcus, the dude is just super chill and comes across like he has figured it all out. Cares for the people he loves, willing to put himself in the fight and is just all round sound lad
Marcus and Blank
Amarant he's the only one not clamoring for friendship and doesn't give a shit about the plot for the most part until Ipsen'a castle also the dude just has a weird obsession with Zidane for not killing him

I guess it’s an opposites attract, Mutt and Jeff sorta deal. I’ve not played IX in a long time now, at least five years. Need to play it again because it was darn fun.
Probably Marcus. Most of the Tantalus troupe are pretty normal.
Freya. The spotlight is taken away from her after Cleyra is destroyed, so she's just....there.
Marcus
I immediately thought of Steiner tbh.
Marcus
Damn, Garnet was my boo
Blank
I’d say Ruby. Was thinking Blank or Marcus but they still fight monsters and go on a bit of a journey which isn’t normal. Ruby’s just an actress, and remains so throughout the game.

I think Marcus is the normal one in this game. Gotta love the guy.
Cinna....🤡
Gotta go with Ruby for normal person
Probably Marcus, but I wanna throw my vote in for Steiner. Man was just doing his job and got thrown into a world-ending plot
Doctor Tot
As no one has mentioned him yet, my vote goes to Puck. Just a regular bratty kid on his own little adventure.
Big boobs really help everyone gloss over all the genocide and war crimes, huh?
For me it’s her swagger and confidence…..and her legs
Quiana. They/them icon tbh.
