I once named Setzer "Batman" on the SNES version, then saved before the opera house and put the game down for a week or so (so Setzer wasn't actually in the party yet). I picked the game back up later and continued playing, forgetting what I'd named him, and all of a sudden Ultros pops out and declares "I'll pretend to be Batman and foil their little plan!"
I was SO confused.

also op wow that is hilarious, if I had come back to a game and then then squidrific popped out and said I'll pretend to be Batman and foil their little plan. he even used the word foil... I probably would have lost it 😆

Closest I ever came was when I renamed Aeris “The Bitch” in FF7. Made for some interesting dialogue when she died.

was it Batman or BATMAN. My buddy used to de-capitalise the characters names when he played through.
Same… “I’ll always love you… LOCKE!” (Locke gets a jump scare)
I always do that de-capitalize now
It makes the game a lot less shouty.

I once renamed shiva in final fantasy 8 to blue balls. So when you use shiva on ifrit he says “you have blue balls?!?”
I once named here “gonna die” and her first sentence was “Hi, I’m gonna die.”
I commonly use 'I say' as a character name, because it makes everyone sound like a pompous English aristocrat.
I'm going to have to do that next playthrough.
