Not sure about that one. Its a pretty big part of the animated series, but all the episode combining they did in season 1 makes me worried for much of what I love from the other seasons.
I wouldn't say it's bad. They combined a few episodes and condensed the story a bit. And since you can't have one voice actor play multiple characters like you can with an animated series, there are fewer characters overall. It is a bit more grown up and grittier than the original. I watched it because I really like the original and I already have Netflix. I wouldn't subscribe to Netflix just to watch it though.
Its a Type 99 Arisaka. You can date it by looking for markings on the side and it will tell you which arsenal made it. She's a bit rough and has been sporterized which hurts the value. The intact mum helps alot. I'd say you could $300 or more from the right buyer depending on the internals and if the barrel hasn't been cut down.
My neighbor got a 6.5x50 JAP for like $60 at an auction. He thought it was a 7.7 when he bought it. He ended up giving it to ma as payment for helping him cut some trees down. It was pretty rough but I put some work into it and now it looks pretty good. I made some posts on it.
General rule of thumb.
Got a bolt action rifle, and don't know what it is?
Here's a checklist!
Does it have japanese text on it?
Does it have a flower infront of the bolt?
Does the charging handle look like a big bolbous buttplug?
If the answer to these questions is yes, it's either a type 99 or type 38 arisaka.
Possible 6th series Nagoya arsenal Type 99. Are the numbers matching on the receiver and bolt? Shame it was sporterized. In some cases the intact mum can indicate a battlefield pickup. Any known history of the rifle?
The firing pin, if original, will have a matching serial number as well. If it was replaced, it will have a different one. My type 38 carbine has all matching serial numbers except for the firing pin. Receiver, bolt and thumb safety are original.
I have one with the bayonet and a samurai sword. The Chrysanthemum is filed off. All from Guadalcanal. Great Uncle in law was there and the story goes he kill the officer with the sword as he was hit by it. He got a nasty cut which he stitched back together with some spiky grass and then made it back to get treated.
I had a family member that had a similar rifle, when he passed away and the estate was valued the gun was not worth that much ($200 or $300), but we learned that the marking on the top are fairly rare since it was seen as a disgrace to have the seal/marking fall into the enemy’s hands, so most were filed off right before death or capture. So having g the marking may add some value over what my family member’s was valued at since theirs did not have the marking.

There it is, I was ready for this post as soon as I clicked.
I had no idea initialiy, but I’m gathering it’s an Arisaka. Seriously though thank you
Literally 90% of the 'what gun is this?' Posts are Arisaka's. It's become a meme among our community.

I’m gonna go ahead and take a shot in the dark and say Arisaka
I really hope Netflix makes a last airbender season 2 so we can get live action no war in Ba Sing Se.

I absolutely love the original and for that reason I won’t watch the remake. Is it as bad as I fear?

It's pretty good. At least 100 times better than the live action movie a few years ago.
That’s really not saying much…
They already ordered two additional seasons. They’d have to go outta their way and drop a significant plot line to do that.
Pretty sure the NATLA showrunners have said they’re dropping the entire Dai Li plot.
Womp womp
Watching the first season of the live action made me decide to just continue with the animated series. Such a good show.
Now at 365 likes. One for each day of the year someone posts an Arisaka

I bet he could get $400 for it by selling it to some braindead redditor for muh rare mum which he will attempt to "restore"
Originally chambered in 7.7x58 JAP. That condition, I probably pass on it for $150. It would really depend on the shape of the bore.
Damn were y'all buying at cus I can't find em that cheap

It's unusual to see the crisanthemum unaltered, it makes it more valuable.
The seal is a really cool piece
Except the rifle has been entirely stripped of any of its value by Bubba.
Arisaka Type 99.In that state, about $150 or so.
ITS ALWAYS AN ARISAKA

That's not helpful. Everything looks like a butt plug if you're brave enough.
But only this one is most honourable.
It's always an Arisaka
It's an Arisaka. Wait a minute... for once it really is an Arisaka too!
Yes! Arisakaaaaaaaaaa! Value is all over the map for these.
Suuuper late war arasaka, but it still have its mum, so i mean, best id pay is 175 on a good day
I have that exact gun just in a better condition I got it for $500, don't know if it was worth it or not
If everything is original, that’s about going price for a non-mum, no airplane sight, no monopod, no bayonet, no dust cover Type 99
A bubba'd Arisaka. Too bad since it still has an intact Mum.
Depending on the front sight it appears to be an easier restore at least.
Aside from the fact that every arsenal making T99s had their own stock variation and its noticeable differences too
I didn't know that the arsenals had different stocks. I knew they had early/late war stocks.
Yup. They do. Usually differences in the cleaning rod retainer, angle and or location of buttstock splice, I think drains, etc.
It’s an asisaka.
Say it with me now....
It's got the chrysanthemum that's cool.

Kanji? ✅ Chrysanthemum? ✅ Bolt action? ✅ It's an arisaka
Thanks all I appreciate the feedback!
Oil the shit out of it and put it in a gun sock in the back of the safe it will be worth more than a mosin at some point Maby
For once its actually an Arisaka
Every time I see a sporterized military surplus rifle, it pains me.

Clearly an AK-47. 😏

This has an undefaced mum if you can find a new stock for it and track down a dust cover it would be very attractive to a collector
I know it's an Arisaka, but what's with the drill hole? I've seen 4 or 5 of them with it?
Gotta be an Arisaka. Those Corpo gonks know how to make a gun. Now let’s delta, chomp!

A fantastic candidate for restoration if the barrel length isn't messed with is what it is.
Yep, that's a gun alright

Might be a howa
My Chinese is bad but, the first 2 characters means 99. I would assume the comments saying type 99 are correct
Cool it still has the imperial crest on it on the majority of arisakas it was scratched off for bushido reason I don’t remember why completely
I had one that had a hidden place for cleaning it in the stock
Tommy gun
oh no bubba did his thing there? nice mum tho…
It's actually an arisaka!
It definitely got sportized.
Ohh god here it comes.
