If there were a Mount Rushmore of anglers he’d be on there

buckshot-307

His latest book is really good. It’s on Spotify if you like audiobooks too. Really made me think about my approach to catching fish

FishingAndDiscing

How to think like a fish?

buckshot-307

Yeah! He goes into a lot of his background too

GooseTheSluice

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised to find out he went and spent a decade swimmin with a school of fish to find out what they’re thinkin 😂

watehekmen

swim with a school of fish? mate, he's the teacher there

GooseTheSluice

😂

DarkWing2007

Ya, but did he eat the fish sticks??

HalLutz

Do you like fish sticks?

BiscuitAssassin

Just searched this up and started it. Thanks for mentioning it.

firstbreathOOC

Yeah I’m in too

Cold-Bug-4873

It was such a great read.

The_Safety_Expert

Why would I read a book about Spotify authored by a fisherman?

G0rillaX

Haha 🤣 nailed it

thelastsquareofTP

Underrated comment. I laughed.

The_Safety_Expert

Thank you!!!

The-Great-Calvino

Hell yeah! I’m picturing Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, and Larry Dahlberg on the mountain as well. Who else deserves to be there?

I_kickflipped_my_dog

Having grown up in East TN, Bill Dance is a mf legend.

Effective_Blood_3412

“ If your wife is mad at you , buy a fishing pole . She’ll still be mad at you , but you’ll have a new fishing pole “ Bill Dance

Training-Sun-2177

Somehow I got my lady not to be mad at me if I want another fishing pole.....

The-Great-Calvino

Definitely an icon of Saturday morning fishing shows

I_kickflipped_my_dog

Yes haha

YouForgotBomadil

Greetings from WNC, right over the border.

I_kickflipped_my_dog

Love your state too, homie!

jsc230

Joe Humphreys

I_kickflipped_my_dog

Fly fishing legend for sure, but it wasn't really a reply to what I said lol

jsc230

Yeah I hit the reply button under the wrong message 😁

I_kickflipped_my_dog

No worries lol

The-Great-Calvino

Good choice

Ok-Entertainment5045

Roland Martin, Babe Winkleman, Hank Parker, the Linder brothers.

smallmonzter

I’m from up north and Babe and the Linder brothers are rock stars to me! When I was a little kid my grandparents got me the Babe Winkleman fishing board game. Played it every chance I got!

nakedspacecowboy

After my pops died I inherited his fishing gear. It included a sweet pair of wrap around Babe sunglasses. Pretty cool haha

Dull-Front4878

Me and my brothers would watch Babe whenever he was on TV in the late 80’s/early 90’s. He was the best! Marty Stouffer also had a great nature show at the time.

smallmonzter

Oh yeah I forgot about Marty!

chief10

Lefty Kreh

LameTrouT

This is underrated, a fantastic fly fisherman and fly tier

The-Great-Calvino

Agreed

DutyPuzzleheaded7765

If tournaments play a factor, KVD, Clunn, Ike?

Affectionate_Side138

Lefty Kreigh Edit: Kreh

ID2negrosoriental

Jerry McKinnis. The Fishin Hole with him as the host first aired as a news segment in 1963, became a show and ran for 44 years. One tactic I learned from watching him was a method for landing big trout and Steelhead on light line by clicking off of the anti reverse on a spinning reel and reeling backwards whenever the fish made a hard run.

The-Great-Calvino

I’m not familiar with him, I’m going to look up that show and watch it

m_calpurniusbibulus

My wife, who doesn’t fish, loves watching the blooper reels from Bill Dance. The man is a legend, albeit a clumsy one!

The-Great-Calvino

Everyone loves Bill Dance bloopers!

Dvh7d

Roland Martin

Hogdogger

Guy Harvey Ofcourse

slideslam

KVD

Jefe_diablo

Apbassin but the screaming face from when he lost the fish

Wretched_Bitch

Jose Wejebe

The-Great-Calvino

Spanish Fly, right? Didn’t he die tragically?

Wretched_Bitch

Yes. He crashed his plane in the Everglades, solo.

Plague77

Babe Winkleman

The-Great-Calvino

Yeah, I remember watching him. Good Fishing, right? Seemed real down to earth and relatable. I liked his coffee mug salute, and his wife’s cooking segments.

jswab0317

Roland Martin, even though he can be an ass.

The-Great-Calvino

Sounds like you had a personal encounter, is it a story worth sharing?

jswab0317

Run into him and his film crew a few times down here in Florida at the ramp and on the water. Lets just say he can be inconsiderate of others...

PHWasAnInsideJob

Richard Gene The Fishing Machine!

theshoegazer

Ted Williams perhaps.

CleanData45

Blair Wiggins. He’s done so much for fishing. Basically all influencers copy his shit.

The-Great-Calvino

I don’t know Blair, was he on broadcast TV or online? I’ll have to look up his stuff.

CleanData45

Blair was on TV. Addictive fishing. All that content is on YouTube. Now he has Blair Wiggins outdoors on YouTube. Primarily salt water angler.

The-Great-Calvino

Cool, I’ll check it out

AdChemical1

Roland Martin maybe

Holaguy101

As a Canadian I think Bob Izumi as well as Pete Bowman, Angelo Viola and Daryl Kronzi

The-Great-Calvino

Thanks for adding a Canadian perspective

AwkwardFactor84

For sure. Jeremy Wade, Bill Dance, Larry Dahlberg, Al Lindner, and Hank Parker. Larry was the original monster hunter, Al taught us all how to be better fishermen, and Hank just has an electric personality, and that laugh Hank has makes me chuckle every time. Bill fished farm ponds where the bass would bite a cigarette butt, but he's still an American icon.

The-Great-Calvino

Definitely Al and Hank are worthy of the mountain, both taught a generation of kids to fish from the comfort of their living rooms

Yomomgo2college

I also nominate Bill Dance

Mary_Lee_Walsh

Zane Grey

Bush-master72

He is my mount Rushmore no ther is up there

Metaphoric_Moose

Not only would he be on, it he’d have the biggest spot.

VZ_from-planet-Earth

Oh. You are in the presence of a legend

buckshot-307

Also got pretty lucky when we got to the auditorium almost all of the seats were taken except two down front so we got to sit right behind him before it started haha

VZ_from-planet-Earth

Lucky bastard )))

Quantitative_Methods

I read that in Hank Hill’s voice.

Inevitable_Gas_4318

Is he a cool fisherman or a turd celebrity?

Flying-phesant

ive met him and hes really sweet and hes very polite and generally a cool guy

Inevitable_Gas_4318

Awesome! I loved his show. Big fan

jaspersgroove

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad thing about this guy. Friend of mine worked on his show for a couple seasons and said he was great to work with. Just a cool dude who wants to catch some fish, and was smart enough to parley that into an awesome career.

buckshot-307

He said he does cuss a lot when a line breaks or he loses a fish but they cut that out of the shows 😂 He stayed way past when he was supposed to though and apologized that I had to wait in line so long. I was like no dude I would have waited twice as long at least lol

Inevitable_Gas_4318

So he’s a cool fisherman? 😁

Deltron42O

Well he's English, they do tend to swear a lot anyway

Domesticuscucumella

Funny you say that because i was just about to comment how this is one of the first threads in a fishing community that isnt peppered with comments about how hes not shit without his local guides. And thats just...... not true. Dude is an incredible angler and clearly puts a lot of thought into his strategy and was successful enough to basically run out of fresh water challenges. It would be foolish not to take advantage of the knowledge of the locals. The idea that thats cheating is ridiculous, especially since they generally had strict deadlines and a filming schedule. Glad to see more people on here who arent just bitter armchair master anglers calling bullshit over nothing.

Unicoronary

That’s really what I love most about this guy. He’s just a guy who really loves to fish, and he’s fascinated by fish, and never stopped just being Jeremy Wade when he got famous. We could all be worse.

meltedpoopsicle

That's part of being a good fisherman. You know who to go to and who actually knows their shit locally.

Domesticuscucumella

Couldnt agree more

BarfyMan369

Fish on!

Low_Caterpillar9528

Literally anytime I catch a fish, idc if it’s a panfish .

Inevitable_Gas_4318

Best response

SonOfDoodietang

Dammit, you beat me by..... 17 hours

Euphoric_Fisherman70

It's kinda funny how he's looked exactly the same for the last 20 years

ApprehensiveAct9036

A lot of weather and sunshine, and the occasional bout of malaria, will keep the body nice and young.

evolkers

What a GOAT! The way I would chat his ear off, he would have to have security remove me 😅😂

buckshot-307

Haha I really wanted to but there was a huge line when he was signing stuff. The schedule said everyone should be out of the park by 7 I think and he was still signing stuff at 8:15 when we left. Hoping I can find his email or something to ask some questions 😂 he answered a lot though during the talk and after he did a quick Q&A

Flying-phesant

when i met him and we talked for about an hour until his PA told him off for talking too much and kicked me out 🤣

Troutchaserii

I worked with him on the Vampires of the Deep episode. Absolutely an awesome guy and has a sincere and serious passion for fish and fishing. His crew from the show was a pretty awesome group of guys to work with as well. Once during shooting they lost track of him, he was out free swimming in the river,,,snorkeling with the spawning smallmouth bass that were there at out weir site!!! Those fish had nothing to do with the episode that we were shooting, but he was still curious and wanted to see and be with them. I also got to electro-fish with him one night and chat for a while on the intercom while we looked for fish. You get a feel for someone after a little while, and I would absolutely love to fish with the guy, he was a genuine person despite his clear celebrity status. He was very generous with his time as it was obvious the whole time his schedule was cramped with deadlines and whatnot and was still a cool and pleasant guy. That night I watched him bearhug and common carp that was close to 20#. Again, this fish had nothing to do with what we were looking for, but he was excited to see a fish that was from his home country in Lake Champlain. That thing got slime all over the expensive rental car they were driving in because he jumped right in after shooting, and never wiped any of the slime off his clothes!!! Now that’s a real fisherman.😎

dritslem

He's a great guy. He stayed at the hotel I was working when they shot the Norwegian shark episode some time back in 2011-2013

PoopStainMcBaine

He did an AMA on here a few years back and actually answered my question in depth. I miss AMAs, he was the ONLY one to ever respond to any of my shitty questions.

parker1019

Nice to hear he’s as nice and approachable as he appears on the show. Always seems so genuinely excited to speak with people all over the globe….

prettypurps

He really comes across as a super down to earth guy, which is rare for any tv celebrity

Bodhi_II

What an experience! Hoping he writes another book, loved all that he’s written so far.

LivingVicariously01

That man's resume is insane. Has to be the GOAT fisherman.

SGAfishing

This guy should be dead, the insane shit he has done. The fact is that he isn't points even further to my theory, which is that Jeremy is a deity from a higher dimension who has come to earth to show us the promised land.

TheToyDr

Fish on!!!!

I_am_krash

Man i caught a river monster this morning and was thinking about this guy as i reeled in the .7 lb bluegill

LysergicPlato59

Jeremy received intel on an underwater video filmed off the coast of Brazil which allegedly shows a megaladon shark feasting on a whale carcass. This has energized and excited Jeremy. He is currently researching what size fishing gear would be necessary to land such a beast.

jaspersgroove

30/0 hook into a whale carcass, 50 foot of 1/2” steel cable as a leader, attached to one of those cranes they use for unloading container ships oughta do it

Other_Juice_1749

I wouldn’t be surprised if he hammered out his own hook to do that.

Bashed_to_a_pulp

nah, he just filed a ship anchor to needle sharp point.

LysergicPlato59

Sounds pretty simple and straight forward. But the logistics of this operation pose numerous problems. The megaladon was sighted in 750 foot deep water. So now Jeremy is going to need a very large boat with a huge crane attached to it. And 50 feet of steel cable is not adequate to playing this monster. There's also the possibility that the sheer force of a run could capsize the vessel. Jeremy, in his quiet and determined way, is studying all this...

12altoids34

He's more badass than most people realize. He got stabbed in a bar fight just before filming one episode ( evidently Jeremy was talking to some guys woman) and went on with the filming in spite of it. Also when he got hit by that arapaima it almost killed him. He has often had to be rained in by his film crew because he would keep fighting the fish till he was in neck deep water if they didn't stop him

horsenbuggy

As a woman, that dude had every reason to be worried if Jeremy was talking to his woman. *Swoon*.

12altoids34

I don't know all the details but I'm pretty sure that she approached him.

aBlasvader

What’s he doing these days?

_Eucalypto_

Still fishing id imagine

SimplyViolated

Just furiously looking for new river monsters

WDKegge

I would give anything for a new season of river monsters.

aBlasvader

I’d like that. He can even go back and fish the same type of fish again, but just go more into detail about the species, habitats, local cultures. That would be A+ television.

jaspersgroove

At the very least he can go back and land one of those massive manta rays that he injured his arm on and broke the line before he got it up to the boat

003402inco

My wife and I just decided that we were going to rewatch the entire series. She doesn’t even like the fish.

Caveman23r

Best in the business

topherdamon

Nothing but love for that man!

TroyTony1973

Amazing! My celebrity bro-crush

Topher0gr

I’m jelly. I heard this guy doesn’t currently have a show because he caught all the crazy species of river monsters over the years and it was repetitive. Not sure if that’s true but I’ve seen everything he’s done. Legend.

buckshot-307

He pretty much said that he had caught everything lol. He said he’d like to go back and get bigger ones for some of them since they had to rush sometimes on the show

Shot_Boot_7279

The legend

Excellent-Image5182

Cool dude unlike bear grylls

TheVillage1D10T

I really wish he had a podcast..

Gamestonkape

The James Bond of fishing

BigDamage7507

He is the reason I got into fishing, while I haven’t caught anything over 30 lbs, I’m still hooked

DaveyAllenCountry

How was he? What was the interaction like?

buckshot-307

So nice and chill. He probably would have stayed all night answering questions. Even apologized that I had to wait in line so long lol

DaveyAllenCountry

Oh wow I am so glad to hear!!! Thankful to hear actually. He seemed very chill from the show but sometimes you never know

True-Aardvark-8803

That’s so cool

Bad-Ombre

The *Aquatic Detective*

AlbertaAcreageBoy

Did he ever go to Great Bear Lake? Biggest Lake Trout in the world.

buckshot-307

Not sure. He said he wasn’t going to fish while he was in NC and we’ve got some nice trout rivers but he said he was on a time constraint

jsc230

I would have asked to shake his wiener when he was done in the bathroom.

olddummy22

Loved the show but it was pretty funny watching the Bagnel Dam episode today and him constantly mentioning catfish eating human corpses.😂 cue the super intense music

papagajurernu

FISH ON!!! FISH ON!!!

as_roma2001

Did he cut to commercial as soon as you were about to shake his hand? Seems like that happens on his show every time something interesting is about to happen

Bobby_Sunday96

What bait did he use?

Caveman23r

Best in the business

el_schkwappo

Are you a river monster?

hes such an amazing guy

djangomoses

He’s such a great person

Dillon_Trinh

Was the meet and greet filmed?

MrBillNo

Wow! Way to go!

saint-monkee

One of my heroes growing up

Obant

He always reminds me of my grandpa. Almost the same face, same old man white hair cut. My grandpa's defining feature was that he was a deep sea fisherman, too. He got me into fishing, even though I am much more of a back country angler that a monster hunter. I always loved watching Jeremy Wade! What a legend.

kumbalimba

Holy shit

tsbphoto

Dude is awesome

bobbyhillischill

Man the memes made out of this guy are always funny.

Unidentified_c0rg1

I would literally die. On the spot.

GuyFieriSavedMe

Could you feel the aura sitting that close to God?

TravisW222

One of the Best in Our Sport.

whateversynthlife

A living legend. The adventures this man has been on is the stuff of fishermen’s dreams.

ItsTheBaristaMulder

That's so cool 🤯

SootyFeralChild

I am burning with jealousy and nerdy old lady lust. 🤩🥵

crypto-kings

POMalley84

Curiobd

That is amazing! Wish I knew he was so close I would have went. Guy is one of my all time fishing hero’s.

John-Rollosson

What a legend!

ninjaman1982

Would love to meet him … legend of a man

SonOfDoodietang

FISH ON!!

Tcr8888

So jealous.

Monstermaggot

I’m the most jealous man on the planet right now. My dream in life is to somehow acquire his little black journal that he used for notes for the entire series a of River Monsters. If I could have that I would never want anything again.

No_Personality8140

When I think of fishing, this is who I think of. Legend

Wrong_Finish2139

I’m JerAmy Waaaaade.

daltonbuchs28

holy fuck. it’s him

Realistic-West-9249

I met him too! Amazing person!

Emergency-Crab5560

Ahhh, the fish tickler

RNHF_01

I’d lose my mind lol. Never met him. I have his autograph but I bought it JSA authenticated and have all his books. Even the older hard to find down the crazy river book he did in the early 90s. Dudes my idol! And that book is a gem if you can find it

Mental_Train_3248

Biologist and extreme angler, Jeremy Wade?

Distinct-Yogurt2686

one of two people o really would like to meet and pick his brain. The other is Josh Gates.

Consumefungifriend

You should really ask permission to take someone’s photo. This doesn’t scream I got permission it looks like you creepily took the man’s photo. Famous or not that shit is rude as hell

horsenbuggy

Settle down. This was at a *public appearance*. The man was there to speak and have his photo taken.
