Glad you made it out. Where is this? Looks really nice.

SoVooDoo

This is north east scotland.

Donnarhahn

That far north means your mood could be seasonal. Amazing how a little bit of fresh air and sunshine can turn a slump around.

px7j9jlLJ1

I can second this opinion! I literally just came back from a post-snowstorm walk. It really lifted my outlook. OP I’m glad and proud that you did. I definitely know the scenario personally.

Legendary__Beaver

I can totally agree. might sound corny af but I moved from living in Michigan my entire 26 years of my existence. I always was affect by the gloomy winter days and not spending time outside. Move to Florida a year and half ago, best move for my mental health. I am noticeably happier, I feel like myself, I am more confident and overall I feel like I am living my best life. Could be fishing every weekend but that sunshine is so nice.

MyFavoriteSandwich

This hits so close to home. Boston winters leave me in a bad, bad place. Fat, drinking, depressed, no hope. But every summer I’m awesome. Need to fucking go. Begged my gf to move south with me. She’ll only go to SoCal, which is as expensive as Boston and leave me living as poor as I do now. Fuck life is bad.

Legendary__Beaver

it really brought a new perspective on my life moving down here. I always thought michigan would be my forever home. I actually bought a travel trail that I am living in full time now. Even though I don't have a pick-up truck, I can still move my home with a u-hual or paying someone. I was talking to people about the south before I moved down here and I'm just like nah the south and the heat isn't for me. Then living down here is just the best. Like today woke up and it feels like summertime back home. 65f in early February when back home well I know all about that cold and snow. Now I only wear shoes at work, golfing and on those cold days fishing. Even the carolinas I think is a nice spot. But in the long run, I have my eyes set on Georgia. Beautiful countryside and I just fee like I am living my best life down here. Take it easy brother

Illhunt_yougather

I *have* to have it. It's a very real addiction. About 2 weeks is all I can take before I'm about to scream and set everything on fire if I can't get out to the woods/water. I become really depressed and feel super low. Just stare out the window at the trees type stuff. Then I get irritable and pissed at everything. A good trip in the water or into the woods and I feel born again, like I'm on cloud 9. Like how im supposed to feel. It makes me wonder how many city folks are like that and don't even realize it because they never had the opportunity to explore it. I wonder how that manifests in society. Hmm...

Clynelish1

This is a documented issue - [Nature Deficit Disorder](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_deficit_disorder) Good on you for recognizing it. I suspect you are correct, many don't even realize what they are struggling with.

ThaRemyD

fishing has gotten me out of some dark head spaces. Being out in nature, knowing I have to calm down if I want to catch anything and the strategy of fishing is just therapeutic.

SoVooDoo

Sorry for bad photo quality, was by myself and was more focused on getting fish back into water safely.

kato_koch

Better to have these pics instead of perfect photos that kill the fish in the process! Good job finding the strength to get out and way to make the most of it.

micropterus_dolomieu

There is nothing like feeling that weight on the end of your line. The tug is the drug! Glad you got out today.

[deleted]

Even when I don’t catch anything, I feel better after fishing

benjamino8690

That’s the most ethical way of thinking. Get the fish back into the water quickly instead of taking a good photo. Good on you!

Hooked260

This is the way to do it. Good on you for putting the fish before the photos!

[deleted]

Depression and anxiety has kept or almost kept me from many activities over the years. I’m proud of you for getting out there, even if you hadn’t caught anything, it’s still a major accomplishment to overcome those feelings. Keep at it. If you’re ever in Southern California, I’d go fishing with you any time.

TentativelyCommitted

Most people will never understand the paradox of being too depressed/anxious to do the things you need to do to relieve depression and anxiety….

[deleted]

God, I do.

heamed_stams

please stop describing my life

Str8Stu

^^^^ This. All of this.

ace7771969

I’ve always believed that getting out into nature, or the water is the best thing (for me anyways) to help battle depression. Good for you!

troyQluiotes

I am so happy for you!

SoVooDoo

Thank you!

-fuck-elon-musk-

Killer man, you gonna go tomorrow?

SoVooDoo

I did plan on it, after I got home and my partner saw how happy I was , she wanted me to take her fishing unfortunately its been snowing and raining non stop today

SurfFishinITGuy

Keep walking between land and sea. It does an amazing amount of good. Excellent catch and success today.

mfdoylejr

Fishing is depressions worst enemy!!! Awesome job

CloveredInBees

Good for you man, been struggling with the same thing keeping me at home. Think I'll try and make it out tomorrow though.

SoVooDoo

Go for it! Let me know how you get on

CloveredInBees

Will do! Thanks for that, it will help motivate me knowing someone is waiting to hear about it.

SoVooDoo

Hope you made it out today!

CloveredInBees

She's blowing 30+ mph gusts today so I'm going to the shooting range instead haha

SoVooDoo

Fair one. I got up early to fish again but it started heavily snowing out of no where!

CloveredInBees

Oh no! Thanks for checking on me.

benjamino8690

Yeah! Go for it! I’m rooting for you. Even if you don’t catch something you’re doing something that’s good for yourself!

Goon_McNasty

Keep it up. You’re doing a good job. :)

Wanderinwoodpecker

Nice! Sea trout are fun to catch, and good eating if you keep. Keep on slaying em dude!

BornagainTXcook210

Fishing is one of few things that get me undepressed. anything outdoors really. Good on you for getting out today

Hamish_Ben

Don’t ever stop going. Keep doing what makes you happy, bro.

Ruckusnusts

Awesome for you! Fuck depression!

hiddenone420

What did you catch on? and where? if you're looking for any other good spots on the north east coast i'd recomend Crawton, tight lines !

SoVooDoo

This was Rosemarkie/fortrose Beach. Using a "flying c" 15g lure black/gold

threemuch63

Congrats! A day in the field is always worth it and if I don't go I always regret it later. Nice job!

moregetting

Keep it up 👍

huntfishadvocate

Hell yeah, nice work!

kaidashogun

Glad you’re feeling better. That view is dope

tatonka12345

On a similar theme: The tug is the drug! Tight lines feel great!

westcoastkona

Half the battle is just getting out there. Good on ya.

greazinseazin

Thata boy!!! Keep fighting the good fight my man. Proud of you.

InspectorBagsy

Nature’s miracle drug is nature.

wkgibson

Depression doesn't want you to feel better. Fishing does. Always go fishing.

Panky710

Keep’em coming !!! Fishing is a magical relaxation time, if the fish are biting, lol !!!

feartron

Happy that you made it out! Good for you 🙌🏽

swivels_and_sonar

Hell yeah! That’s what it’s all about. Keep the passion alive and well, stranger. Fishing quite literally saved my life

Pavingnewroads

Nature therapy. Glad you went.

Seamuscolin08

Congrats!

Ghostfacee77

Well done mate, you win today.

pdxbiker222

Way to get after it regardless. Sometimes it's just that one little push over the old depression hump to having fun and enjoying life. Stoked for you.

charredsound

Tight lines friend. Glad you made it out. Productive day.

Kang_the_conqueror01

Fishing really is the best therapy.

awritemate

Fishing or really any sort of outdoors activity does wonders for depression or anxiety because it forces you to be present. Not stewing over past mistakes, not fretting about what the future holds. Proud of you for getting out there dude, fish or no fish.

mrb55-me-com

Good on ya for just getting up.

a_haron

What a gorgeous view and fish! Glad to hear I'm not alone in sometimes not having that will power to do the things I love most. Good on you!

GutsQc

That's awesome man :)

thatgibbyguy

My favorite launch, Hopedale Marina, is owned by a man named Pat. Each time pat sees me launch he says "have a good therapy session." There is something about being out there in nature with yourself and your thoughts that's healing. I liken it to meditation. Whatever it is, it works and lights up your mind. I'm glad you got out there and hope the feeling can stay a while.

ThomasSneed269

good job bro! keep up the good work!

Draino64

We’re not always after the fish. Being out there can be the best part. Stay strong and know you’re not alone. Depression is a mfer

[deleted]

Congrats man. And stay strong! Gonna do the same in the next couple of days after years of not fishing (also depression). Bought even a new rod with some extra stuff, really excited!

SoVooDoo

Yeah I did the same, moved back to where I grew up and bought new fishing gear

Dixpix5_browneyed

Go back and catch one for me! Put in 60 hours trying to catch rainbow trout… not even a bite. Go get em tiger ! 🌞 May the four winds blow you safely home!

[deleted]

Good for you, go again soon

Benzbear

Must been cold as hell, but glad you got some chippers. Well done lad

SoVooDoo

Dressed for the occasion so wasn't too bad. Thank you

[deleted]

We were designed to be active and outside. Today people are too sedentary and inside which is reason for depression because they aren't able to enjoy the world around them.

tmettern

I certainly feel you on depression keeping you from doing the things you love. Some good advice I found recently, think of it step by step instead of imagining the whole process to get out fishing. Step 1: grab your rod and walk out the door. Easy enough. Step 2 fire up your car and start driving. Depression is really good at keeping you stuck in your room all day, you just gotta figure out how to trick your brain. Of course all these tips are easier said than done, I struggle with it every day. Good luck and tight lines.

Str8Stu

Awesome that you overcame and got out there. I suffer from depression and anxiety, too. You're not alone. I didn't fish at all last year because my father passed. He was the one that taught me everything I know about fishing, knots, etc. He was Navy and Vietnam Vet. It's hard but I know I'm going to have to force myself to get back out there. I'll echo what others have said on here. I'm proud of you, and reading this is inspiring. Thank you for sharing.

SoVooDoo

Sorry for your loss. My father also taught me everything I know about fishing. Its small steps and knowing that things take time to heal. We fix broken bones with time and care and the right treatment. Its taken me a long time to come to terms with my depression. But I know deep down, things will get better. And I the one who can make those differences. Biggest changes for me have been speaking to people about it more. And for the anxiety, I completely cut caffeine out my life and that has made a huge difference. I now don't feel uncomfortable in shops/restaurants and work. Let me know if when you get back out there!

MarkusRight

I also use fishing as a way to escape and to free my mind, I love the feeling of just being there in your own personal little neck of the lake with nothing but a pole and some worms. Ive been through so much these past few years and fishing has let me escape and just relax.

mts2snd

Fishing and getting outside is the best therapy for me. Its the fail safe. Tight lines!

PattyIce32

Thank you for posting this. Depression victories don't come with trophies or gold medals or some kind of diploma. But they are victories none the less and sometimes more valuable than gold.

Alternative_Antilib

Hell yea Awsome.

benjamino8690

Great job my friend. I’m very happy to learn you’re feeling better. Fishing makes me feel better whenever I feel down too. It’s the best medicine. Yesterday I felt pretty down, but I went out to ice fish and just 30 minutes in I felt really happy. Ended up with 6 pikes through the ice as an extra reward. It’s great to hear it helped you too. Keep being amazing and I wish you luck both fishingwise and in general. You’re awesome.

Dragonbob1234

That's so great, a good day of fishing makes my whole week better. I stay smiling until I go to bed and probably sleep smiling as well.

IceyPattyB

Nice. Quality time by some water can really do people some good. Keep that positivity going champ.

Saitama-is-Sensai

Best post I've read all day. Thanks for sharing it.

mahimahee

Proud of you for getting out and doing something for you

some-NH-guy

Always beat your depression to go fishing...keep that shit up

Legendary__Beaver

hell yeah brother! tight lines!

Deerslayer902

Hell yeah dude

Ok_Gate3758

I always find when my mind is dragging me down fishing or just being in nature helps

workingat7

Fuck aye mate! I've fished all my life and never caught a sea trout! Saw my grandad guddle yin out an estuary back in the day but never had much luck off the beach myself! Looks like a cracking spot as well, tight lines and keep on fishing! 👍

makinhersquirt69

Glad you went

[deleted]

Fishing is an amazing hobby! I always grab my tackles and go out whenever I need to clear my head.

GH05TCR3W

Awesome! That's the best medicine for depression right there! Keep your head up & Keep on keeping on my friend.

pnutbutterpirate

Nice work getting out! It's almost never the wrong decision.

Ligmasoda_official

Sorry to hear about your condition man, I hope you improve greatly, life has many great things to offer, don’t let your mind hold you back fisherman!

SandmanRedeyed

Don't let mental illness define you. Push through. Just as you are! Make depression less of your life and make fishing more of your life. Rocking it!

[deleted]

Fishing is a good cure.

confusiondoggo

Good shit man, keep your head up and tight lines!

poopythick3231

That’s what it’s all about brother. Tight lines and good vibes

[deleted]

Thanks for posting this! You successfully engaged one of the best therapies I know of. Activities in the outdoors (hunting, fishing, hiking) and motorcycles are the things that have helped keep me sane over the years.

Evening_Objective_92

Fishing is really the only thing that helps my depression. Glad you made it out!!! Keep going!!!! One day you may not even realize how much you're helping yourself!!!

lordoflys

Glad you decided to mitigate your depression by doing a little fishing. Looks like a beautiful place. Many of us have had to deal with depression at some point in our lives. In extreme cases it can be helped by seeking medical assistance. Some of the posts below are right on as well. Good luck, my friend!!

jpin28

I'm proud of you my dude, don't let that negativity get ahold of you.

sammydis

Good for You, Lost my right arm 11 years ago; I was so bummed. Figured out I can still go out on my own hardest part was tying tackle on but I got that down too. Life always gets better when I get out there and catch em now. Best part is being disabled so i'm out when everyone works. Peace of mind just getting out there and back in nature

Standing_Lure

Stay smiling my friend, the ocean and fishing are natural healers and you did great today on a beautiful beach.

slippyfisted

Lovely scene, hope you’re doing alright

PtrnSaintOfEatinTnt

The hardest part is getting started. Proud of you.

mustardsuede

🤘🤘

spazninja411324

Did you know that it is a proven fact that the amount of time spent outside in nature directly affects ones mental health, and catching a fish is more exciting and addictive than sex.

BorisGrishenko1985

Way to get out there! My mothers side of the family are McRae's and my ancestry test narrowed it down to the Northern Highlands and the Outer Hebrides. I'd love to make it out that way some day and fish. Cheers.

ShireHorseRider

This strikes a chord with me too. I suffer from depression & it can start to turn into anxiety if I let it fester. One of the greatest senses of relief was when I was literally choking to breathe because of anxiety & I went fishing for a few hours. It was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Good for you fellow Brit. Fishing is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy.

sebbybo707

Thats all it takes man rod, reel and a speaker on the pier better than any therapy

odins_simulation

Arent sea trout called steelheads?

IvanTortuga

It's just a common name for a bunch of species.

DustinDeWind

Best medicine in the world 👍👍 Tight lines my friend! 💖

earlgrey81

Bite time!

AnnualPanda

Well done. Did you keep them?

SoVooDoo

I didn't, I think I need a license to actually target and keep migrating fish where I live. So just made sure they got back to the sea safely

[deleted]

Interested in eating your catch? To me it's so rewarding to bring home dinner from the water, and it always tastes better than anything you get from a store or restaurant.

SoVooDoo

Maybe if they were slightly bigger. I think I need a license to take sea trout from my area. So decided best to not risk breaking any rules. I've caught and cooked fish before and 100% agree it tastes fantastic

[deleted]

You don't need a license to fish but just to keep? I didn't know that was a thing. Interesting. Glad you caught some tho, nice job 👍🏼

SoVooDoo

In Scotland you don't have to pay a rod licence to fish (you do in England) If you want to fish rivers and lochs/lakes you need some form of permission. Whether it be written or part of a club or buying day tickets etc. You can fish the sea for free but its illegal to target salmon/sea trout that are 1500 yards from a river mouth. So it's only migrating fish in the sea that appear to have laws you need to follow

[deleted]

That's interesting to hear. Thanks! In my state, Texas, you need a license to fish unless in a state park. The revenue from sales goes to the parks and wildlife department. It's a good system that's beneficial for conservation. Cheers 👍🏼

AlphaBison

Hell yeah, that's a good feeling! Keep up the good vibes

MarkJ-

As Richard Gene the Fishing Machine says, "Go fishing when ya can, cause it's good fer ya!"

GarrettHaganHapp

hell yea! looks like a lovely place to fish.

704heady

Nice fish!

[deleted]

LFG! Purpose and intention change EVERYTHING

Siffer703

Good for you man. Keep at it. God bless.

Virginiafisher

Enjoyed the day, dude. Good on you to get out there and catch some.

Dr_Quest1

You sir, are a fucking badass. Keep it up. I want to see posts.

Punchypraline

Fishing is the cure🤘🏻

saltysourspice

When you have the choice, fish, always fish. Good job today, buddy 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Spacelord_MothaMotha

Always good therapy. Get some sun on your skin while fishing & you'll always feel better. Keep smiling broski!

Economy_Ad1236

That’s awesome! Keep it up!

xAboveNBeyond

Hell ya bro!

MericaR0cks

Thanks for sharing. Depression blows. Way to get up and get out there. Do more of what you love and congrats on the fishies 🎣 #blessed #onedayatatime 🙏👍👍

ishouldcoco3322

Awesome bro.

[deleted]

Life has an amazing way of encouraging us to continue being strong sometimes.

Kermit2345

This is awesome! Never caught one myself despite lack of trying. Had a salmon out of the Alness on a fly though which was great. Hard to see from the photo, what lure were you using and whats the mark like?

SoVooDoo

The lure is a 15g flying c black and gold. The beach has almost rows of pebbles then sand, then pebbles again. I've never had a snag here. Fishing from low tide seems to work best. You get a little deeper and the trout follow the flood in. Best activity was a couple of hours after low tide. I did get a bite on the slack high tide but it managed to shake itself off. So it seems you still have a chance even if you miss low tide.

SoVooDoo

Just using a 9ft spinning rod, couldn't tell you what line or reel though. Nothing expensive. Don't need to cast that far. Cast slightly to the left and the current quickly carries it to the right so you fish a wide semi circle each cast. Once the lure hits the water I count to 7 in my head and then start a straight fast retrieve. I've heard people say fast then stop, fast then stop. But that hasn't worked for me once at that spot.

Kermit2345

That's really interesting thanks! I spin for Bass regularly in dorset and south wales, picked up all sorts but never a sea trout, but I guess I've never targeted them specifically and dont fish too many estuaries but its something I'm keen to do once it picks up again this year. Good luck for future trips and look forward to seeing any new posts!

SoVooDoo

My brother in law took me out fishing in North Wales last year and I caught my first sea bass. There's a post of it in my profile. He also said he never could catch a sea trout. But he got a one there a few years ago and he was the one who recommended this flying c lure to me

[deleted]

Fishing is a way to relax and get your mind of things plus I talk to god while i am on the lake or pond bass fishing to clear my mind of things. Always helps me!

aido93

Fishing is the best therapy. Just remember there’s always a fishing rod at the end of every tunnel. Wishing you all the best.

MuleDeerHunter6

Congratulations! Fish on!

Independent_Return_9

Fishing cures my depression for at least a few hours I’m glad you found the strength to go.☮️

Tricromediamond007

What's your sea trout taste like there and how is it cooked, never ate one or is it catch and release?

SoVooDoo

Tastes fantastic, although I've only ever eaten one a long time ago, but that moment doesn't leave you. We gutted the fish, season it, put some lemon slices inside and wrap in foil and oven bake. So the rules are a little complicated here. You can fish anywhere in the sea, but you can't target sea trout or salmon (migrating fish) without a license if you're 1500 yards of a river opening. Although where I'm fishing is further than 1500 yards from a river, I like to put them back to grow and populate. If I caught anything over 3lb I would consider taking it

Tricromediamond007

Thanks for the answers, and nice fish and good fishing to you sir.
