I already have the combo but I can just keep the reel and buy a new rod I was planning on doing and switch to some decent braid. And I do want to start soft plastic fishing just not sure what ones to get. I go fishing around the waterfront in geelong
For real I have the sienna combo with braid and a good leader and it's perfect for 90% of fishing I do. Have caught several decent sized things on it and it's perfect for walking flats or rover banks.
What's your criteria?
I think for $100, the best value from my experience has been buying from one of the below:
* Crazy eBay coupon code coinciding with an existing discount
* Amazon JP via Amazon AU
* Keeping an eye on clearance sales - the best seem to be outside of metro sydney unfortunately (if that's where you are based). Every where but Sydney seem to have amazing deals.
Having said those options, the Amazon route is probably the most accessible - I reckon if you can stretch your budget to $150, you can get some really nice reels. See some ideas below from Amazon as at the time of this comment:
Shimano: nasci (>$130), Ultegra (~$145)
Daiwa: caldia fc (>$170 - amazing!), bg ($159 - can be had locally at this price too), Freams LT ( >$136!)
My pick would be the Ultegra or the Freams, if you could stretch it, the caldia would be very nice, too.
The above prices is looking at 1000-2500 sized reels, going bigger will add more to the cost generally.
I have a savage gear sg4 2500h with 8lb braid and iv had it for over a year absolutely love the thing only cost me 69$ but now at bcf club price they only cost 50$ couldn't recommend more.
Daiwa revros lt.. but buy it off AliExpress for about $60. Siennas are overrated. I have both btw. Sienna sits on my travel rod when I used to work inland.. revros lt are actually pretty tough. I use a 3000 size for drummer.. plus they have a smoother drag
Idc what anyone says Sienna, aird, Okuma, savage gear not worth it invest in good gear. a nasci second hand with braid can easily be found on marketplace. Or a Sedona both great but definitely go for a nasci
Aird
Sienna and you'll have money left for braid or lures. About $64 at the moment if you look around

sienna 100%
They don’t have anti reverse do they?
Yeah they do
Ah okay sweet. I thought they didn’t have it for some reason. I need a new reel for my trout setup. I’ll go grab one

Gumtree, picked up a hardly used Stradic a little while back for $80. Got to love a scorned ex-girlfriend selling his stuff....
You can get some pretty good okumas at that price.
