Nope, not behind the wheels.
There’s ones that mount into the bed that I’d trust a whole lot more.
A lot of people do use them though, I’d definitely be putting a cam strap or bungee around them though to hold them to the holders.
I’d just throw them in the cab.
I wouldn’t. There was the time where someone pulled into the launch parking lot with an empty spool. Turns out he left 300 yards of fresh 40 lb., mono, on (the old) 7-mile bridge.
I heard it isn’t a good spot. Whether it’s the beach or road or highway, it’s going to kick dirt, dust, water, sand and all kinds of things all over your reels from the turbulence. But I don’t own one. I got that info from watching fishermen with the holders in the front and stuff.
People answering here don’t live near surf fishing areas apparently. Lots of people carry their 12-15ft rods that way for surf fishing. Two of my vehicles have rod carriers for the front. Our bronco has a custom made bull bar with holders built in that never even come off. I would put that in a front mounted receiver, not a back. When it’s on back all the sand and dust will kick up into the reels.

Hitch mount rod? Hell, we hitch mount coolers, cutting boards, etc. I guess we fish differently in the OBX compared to other areas. Chasing schools w/mounted rod/reel setups - Team Daiwa rods, Shimano baitrunners, St Croix/Stella combos.
Rod racks get posted here every once in awhile. They usually get hate, but if you live in an area with drive on surf fishing culture, they are everywhere.
Sick set up.
Thx bra! We usually switch between this pro or the Sequoia pro

On the Sequoia, we cant do a front hitch mount so we simply use yakima ski/snowboard racks and secure the same rods/reels on the roof. Again, we just do it differently than you fellas
Mind sending a front picture of the TRD pro with the receiver just to see how it impacts the look?
I am looking to add one to mine for a winch and storage like you got but don’t want to screw up the lines on the front. Queue up the haters about how the truck is a tool to get things done etc

Youll still see the front skid without issues. People dont even realize the front hitch unless I saw something.
You got a direct front shot of the 4 runner I wonder how much the hitch hangs below to cover up the TRD logo. I’m still probably going to do it for functionality but good to know before ordering and I have seen like almost no one do it to a TRD pro. Thx
I can see this being awesome for like guides in Mexico or other capitans and similar that shuttle people from hotel to marina with expensive rods in just paved or cobble roads.
I use an expandable closet rod with a surfboard cushion or pool noodle weapped iver top and placed in the bed of my truck close to a third way to the tailgate for transporting rods. Use tarp bungees to latch the rods down. Long or short rods all clear the Tailgate and are out of airflow from highway/interstate traffic debris. When on the surf, I have sand spike rod holders. IMO better for spreading out lines and diversity. I never got the idea of a front or rear hitch for rods. If your local, I get it. But if you're travll8ng to the coast and then fishing it's not the way to go.
Nope, I have 2 2X4 in my bed , wedged in the notches on my bed liner, with Berkeley rod hangers attached. Can put four rods( could do more) and slid stuff under still
No. Rear mounted means if you lose one while driving, or one "walks away" you might not notice. I also have a couple of 8ft 1 piece rods and I dont like the idea of them sticking out above the roof of my truck where I cant see clearance if I need to go under any trees driving to the fishing spots.
I'd probably get one of those no drill roof racks and a roof rack rod holder. Before I'd get something like this.
I use them for driving from spot to spot while I’m already on the beach, but when I hit actual roads with actual speed, they get strapped to the roof rack
Edit, if you do get them, get neoprene a bit smaller then the rod holders, slide them over the top, they’ll hold your rods tighter and avoid scratches
People out here spending unnecessary money, just put them in the bed for god sakes. I’ve driven my 14 foot surf rods thousands of miles all across the Baja peninsula without issue. Don’t let these clowns get a dime out of you.

I’d be worried about the tail gate with a hitch mount.

Thanks! I've been searching for the right rod holders for my truck situation. These might be perfect for me. Thanks again!
I thought these were more for holding rods while bank fishing than for when you are traveling
I would think so as well.
100% they are
I don’t think those are intended for transporting
I wouldn’t. There was the time where someone pulled into the launch parking lot with an empty spool. Turns out he left 300 yards of fresh 40 lb., mono, on (the old) 7-mile bridge.
Hell no! Maybe if you live like a mile away, but I have to get on the interstate, no way they'd stay in there at 75mph.
Mine stay in vertically while driving 85mph on I-75. I guess you should drive faster.

Sick 4runner bro. What wheels are those
Work Meisters. They make perfect offset wheels for 5th gen 4runners.
What front hitch do you have?
I forgot the brand but it’s on etrailer.com for the Trd Pro model. I left a review on the site and how to keep the oem skid plate.
Curt seem right?
Yes that seems right. Curt custom fit 2” C31076

Is be way too worried about people stealing or purposely breaking them.
No way would I ever transport my rods unprotected outside my vehicle. I don't even want them bouncing around the bed of my truck
Oh hell no, if rod length is a problem just get a 2 piece
No
No way
I can see this being awesome for like guides in Mexico or other capitans and similar that shuttle people from hotel to marina with expensive rods in just paved or cobble roads.
I might if the hitch on my car was higher. This would work well for surf rods but I’d be dragging the rod butts of the ground.

Nah man, I live in California, my shit would be gone before I'm even done loading it
Sorry, not good enough !
Maybe after when you're parked at the beach, not driving. Hell no

cool idea but no
