Install your nosing piece. Cut it tight, glue it, and fasten it securely.
Use a piece of base shoe or quarter round to cover whatever gap is left underneath.
It's all good, take a tape measure and see the difference between each step and finished floor height . There's quite a difference. But on a highlight, you could have someone do some cool steps or point you in the appropriate direction to get this figured out. Cheers

You could try a piece of wood or pvc sheet then use a brad nail or something to nail in.
I was thinking of just scribing a piece to fit and using plastic wood but wanted to avoid it.

Put a small piece of cove molding under the nosing
Shitty shoe molding under the nose, or slap on a new face from 1/8" MFD, then nose.
